Design quirks/hallmarks of 2006-2008 sets?
Hello, There's been a small community of "Classic Style" creations which try to mimic the general design styles of a specific Lego period; such as this one from @The Brick Stop which mimics 1999-2003 Lego Star Wars. https://www.instagram.com/p/CnRAkI7Lt44/ It's not as simple as older designs having "less detail" compared to today's sets; there's a different design sensibility as a whole. More than just not having certain pieces available, there is a very specific focus on larger pieces in this era, among a number of other things. My question is: What are some of the design quirks in general of sets in the roughly 2006-2008 (or even 2005-2009) era? I'm trying to make a MOC that follows that "feel", but because this is the era I grew up with, it's a lot harder to notice the specific design sensibilities of these sets compared to some other ones. The sometimes clunky forcing of Bionicle elements is the only thing that really stands out to me. Thoughts?

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Well they DO spend every direct talking for 7-10 minutes about a random, non Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest/IP people care about Square Enix JRPG coming out. You're right, however. As much as I would love this and I think it would be a good idea considering rumors that Nintendo may not have an especially big lineup this year, they don't really talk about merchandising / tie in stuff other than the announcement of the Mario movie cast. They don't even really talk about new hardware or accessories that much; general directs are very heavily focused on software within the upcoming year.

LEGO Ninjago 2023 Discussion
Very conflicted on the new Ninjago City Market possibility. Personally hoping it will be as tall as the original City and Gardens, as I've always felt that Docks stands out too much being half the height. Then again, if it is shorter, it won't make docks stand out so much. Either way, my current display is using the max amount of room, so a small part of me is hoping this doesn't blow me away

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
This is going to be a really out-there theory. While I'm not suggesting causation by any means, or that this "confirms" anything, notice how after decades, we happen to get a Blacktron tribute revealed at the same exact time as the Zelda speculation / Ideas removal? Has anyone LOOKED at the Blacktron logo recently? It's the Triforce. It's even bright yellow and the same type of triangles. Am I saying that Nintendo "owns" such a basic shape? Not "comprehensively", by any means, but in the age we live in with copyright laws this convoluted and complex, I think this connection may have been referenced internally. Maybe there's some connection there? Again, this is more of an observation and less of a claim.

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
I remember seeing leaks about Lego Games as a theme around this same time last year, and I was very hesitant. Lego fully embracing video game stuff has been the ever-elusive, since-age-5 dream, so I was preparing for it to be for the video games they themselves make. It seems that very slowly, the dream may be coming true. METAL GEAR IS HAPPENING

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Smash Bros will always be something people ask for, but as a hardcore (VERY hardcore) fan, it's not something we can ever expect. Its characters are from a multitude of companies, including Nintendo-associated developers that are not actually Nintendo (HAL Laboratory for Kirby, Game Freak / TPC for Pokemon), but additionally, the game is actually developed by Bandai Namco and Sora Ltd. But don't worry about getting official sets... there may be a good alternative coming soon.

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Despite how inherently negative it is to specifically wish NOT for a set to come out given the several hundred that we get each year, I hope the Fortnite sets are not real. While still a huge deal, the Fortnite "craze" isn't as hot as it was even last year when Lego first partnered with Epic. I have to say, when there were listings for a Lego "Gaming" theme in 2022, I was incredibly excited, but so far it's been one cancelled Overwatch set, a Horizon Zero Dawn set, and the Atari set I almost forgot about typing this. Almost nothing has come out of this, really. My intense, since-5-years-old desire for Lego to fully dive in to Video Game IPs continues to elude me. How is it that still only two characters on the Smash Bros Ultimate roster have minifigures? Shameful. Shameful and disdainful.

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Horizon Zero Dawn's set is proof that more of my Lego dreams are coming true. There was an idea I dreaded that the "Lego Gaming" theme would simply be Lego-themed game controllers or a new way to catalogue their video games, but cooler heads have thankfully prevailed. I think Overwatch as a Lego theme is a living embodiment of how Lego has shifted from everything needing a full "theme" to relying more on IPs with one large set. I would be surprised if there are many more Overwatch sets after this, but this is definitely a launching point for more gaming themes in general. Horizon Zero Dawn is not exactly "obscure", but it certainly isn't the biggest franchise in gaming. The fact that it ISN'T the biggest thing in the world gives me a lot of hope that some stuff isn't completely out of the question. In fact, I have a few predictions / hopes that I think are good possibilities, given that I think most of the franchises will be a bit more "realistic" (as in stuff with a focus on large vehicles / structures and more normal character designs, aka probably not Kirby / Pokemon / etc) Final Fantasy - Likely VII; I don't remember the age ratings for these but they're definitely not TOO crazy inappropriate and it's in the same ballpark of Sci-Fi type design as Horizon Zero Dawn. It appeals to the same demographic, and it's definitely a lot larger. Mega Man - This was reportedly going to be a Dimensions pack before it was cancelled. Family friendly, a large franchise, current with kids today thanks to a new TV show and apparently Netflix movie, with a large focus on big machines and most characters having a similar body type makes this an ideal fit. I can already imagine Mega Man 2's Wily Castle, which you can turn around to see lots of rooms and traps on the inside. Personally I like this idea a lot more than having thin 2D spaces like the Sonic set and lots of Ideas projects. Metal Gear - My personal dream, though definitely less likely. I argue that the series' anti-nuclear, pacifist themes make this less of a crazy idea than one would think. An Ultra Agents set had a deliberate Metal Gear reference, and series creator Hideo Kojima had his Twitter icon of him as a minifi gure officially made by the people behind The Lego Movie. Ideas lists Metal Gear as "Too Mature" as a franchise, but that system is generally a mess and is wrought with strange choices. Death Stranding - A smaller game like Horizon Zero Dawn, also made by Kojima and using the same engine. The two development teams are pretty close, both being in-house Sony developers. A lot of PlayStation-exclusive franchises fit the mold here. Zelda - At some point, it is inevitable.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Since I was a little boy, I had a fantasy of going into the Lego Store and buying all the sets from a theme immediately. I thought that was what would happen when Lego Mario came out, but we all know why that might be an exception, regardless of quality. If this rumor is true, I will fulfill that dream. However, I have a lot of reservations about this. I think that the original sets are so spectacular, with Temple Escape and Temple of the Crystal Skull as the two highlights, that I am not sure of how much I COULD like these new ones. There are ideas this theme did which have never been officially done before or since. Indiana Jones as he exists now is one of the very best minifigures ever designed and I don't think any new interpretation could match. I can already see the new Temple Escape being $80-100 instead of 60 and being a smaller set densely packed with detail from tiny parts, unlike the earlier one which was cheaper and larger but with a lot of BURPS and 16x16 technic bricks. The more I think about it, the more I think this would have in common with Batman I vs DC Superheroes. Yes, the new line has granted us many great things, but (maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia) just about all of the original sets are such great designs. Were there a lot of great ideas for sets that never came to be? Yes. Were they limited by the older-style of set waves/pricing and could have easily benefitted from having today's giant D2C sets? Absolutely, but no matter how many new DC sets they make (which will probably still be very few with the way things are going), and no matter how great and obscure the figures get, the 2006 line is held in high regard for a reason. Basically, remember how when Batman finally came back, that first 2012 wave was almost nothing but remakes of the original sets that were both smaller and worse looking in just about every aspect? This is what I DESPARATELY hope they avoid with an Indiana Jones reboot.

Licensed Lego Ideas - Support & Discussion
Again, I don't understand the hate for this set. I understand people apparently wanted Mania specifically, but Mania itself is already so heavily rooted in the original series and graphically, this area is not very different from the original on a visual level, and that's an intentional decision. However, I simply do not know how the design for Robotnik passed. The head just looks so bad that I legitimately can't believe they couldn't have come up with a more clever design.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
I somewhat understand a few complaints but on the whole I don't get why this set seems to be getting THIS much dislike. When you have so many other modulars which are so very square, it's nice to see something like this that really goes in a completely different direction. Still waiting to see what GWP is.

Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Like the NES, I'm slowly warming up to this set. I get why they went with a ? Block, but I really want to mod it into a red ! Block. It wasn't even something I cared about at first, but I can't shake the feeling it will make the set look a lot better overall.

Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
I know that Lego never, ever does this, and since there are different exchange rates it wouldn't really work, but since it's $169.99 in the US, they should have just said screw it and make it $164
