Is the only way forward for Technic to go back?
ralphie replied to Xfing's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe friction pins that made 8865 nice and tight will make your fingers bleed. Anyone can get some and make their studless designs rock solid, almost as good as Kragle. Which reminds me… TLG will pay me for evil antique friction pins and old grey studded beams? Sold!

42040 with Working Fake Radial Engine
ralphie replied to ralphie's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks folks. I was thinking about this for Lipko’s plane, but that’s a bad fit. Gotta think about TC27 next…

42040 with Working Fake Radial Engine
Experimenting with the new engine from 42170 and my eyes fell on 42040. Obviously there should be an odd number of cylinders and a NACA cowling, but overall I’m very satisfied. Pistons wiggle appropriately. The rubber bits are half for looks, half to help keep everything in place. 8 cylinder radial seems possible, but maybe not this small.

Thirdwigg’s U423 mods
I am a huge fan of @Thirdwigg’s U423, but it needed more gears! The original rear PTO on/off still works, but the other side now has an additional transmission that can either enable the tip bed or the wheels. This makes it a little easier to run the functions without turning the wheels. The universal joint sits behind the cab so there is something handy to turn the front PTO with. This was a super fun build, followed by quite a few hours working in the new feature. Thank you!

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
ralphie replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIt would be amazing if it was accidentally similar to a vehicle from Moon (2009 movie) or Prometheus. In fact, they’d have to try pretty hard to make something I’d hate

[MOD] 42111 Tank
ralphie replied to ralphie's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling@GTS I think I might have funded the kickstarter for that! It was never quite as good as when I was 12 playing the original.

[MOD] 42111 Tank
I actually really liked 42111, except the wheelie feature was silly. I’ve also been looking for an excuse to use a skid steer type transmission. What could be more Fast, Furious, and Stupid than a Dodge Charger tank? The chassis could use a little more stiffness, but I’m done for now. I really like the look of the quarter ellipses (71708) on the suspension.

Does slots direction in Technic Pins matter for you?
ralphie replied to Void_S's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI align the visible axle-end pins of 32054 to be forward/rear when possible, and up/down otherwise. I put the ring on 6558 in whatever way I think will make it easier to take the model apart, assuming there is no assembly requirement. I don’t pay any attention to slots that are not visible when fully assembled, because I would drive myself crazy with that.

Hummer H1 Station Wagon
ralphie replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNice work. I had totally forgotten that the unmodified version didn't have a full front bumper. There were a wide variety of push bars added "in theater", the easiest was to just use another rear bumper.

[TC20] Technic Studless Recreation Contest - Entry Topic
28. 8832 Roadster Original Set: 8832 Topic A little bigger than the original to allow for the steering mechanism to be as thin as I wanted. The original build substitutes some older parts that I prefer to keep quarantined.

Jeep Willys
ralphie replied to Sariel's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNot sure about everywhere else, but in the USA, we always say the manufacturer first: “Honda Civic”, “Lancia Stratos”. Since Willys is the manufacturer, it should be first in the name. This is a favorite vehicle of many USA people, so expect lots of grumbling. It is a beauty in either order.

[TC20] 886 space Technic LDD file
ralphie replied to MangaNOID's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI want to see this in a remake of the moon rover chase from Ad Astra.

[TC20] 8832 Roadster
ralphie replied to ralphie's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingRear suspension has two springs instead of one. Because I added width, one spring would have been in the middle of a 10 stud axle. At the wheels, the length/width ratio looks quite good.

[TC20] 6949 Robo-Guardian
ralphie replied to Akassin's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLooks great! Do you think you’ll need a sway bar by the time you get to full height?

[TC20] 8832 Roadster
ralphie replied to ralphie's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI had to go two studs wider to get the effect I wanted. This solution holds together well, and has the same thin lightweight look as the original. Even stud width because of the steering rack. I may have stolen the wheels from my son’s collection.
