  1. While 'stickers' don't bother me, earth should have been painted on this model, in my opinion. As for the discrepancies, that is a total shame. The model teaches the principles OK but the accuracy (or lack thereof) ruins it. I haven't read through the entire thread, but if I remember correctly, I believe someone worked out the proper gearing needed. Too bad LEGO didn't follow that path.
  2. It's a neat model and incorporates a lot of cool features but it's still a car....
  3. Darn thing keeps on growing....
  4. So long as you are using 1mm cord, I strongly suspect it's breaking point will far exceed the stall point of the crane's motor.
  5. PUp is certainly still active but LEGO has been pushing Control+ and I'm not sure (though I haven't been paying attention) if there has been anything recent for PoweredUp, plus I seem to recall rumors of something new coming from LEGO, including motors and power sources. I just got the impression that LEGO is moving in a different direction.
  6. What if you search for "1234" - using quotation marks? Some search functions will only search for the specific info within the quotes and disregard anything else, depending on how sophisticated the system search design is.
  7. Nicely done! Thanks for posting. It may be 'dated' but it's welcome information for those of us who missed that LEGO era and are trying to catch up.
  8. Very nice build! Does it have a radio you can hear three blocks away like the 1:1's do?
  9. A fair statement but....look around. With very few exceptions, everything has increased in price. The vehicle I bought 5 years ago would cost me $10,000 more to replace today. $100 used to get 4 bags of groceries whereas today it's closer to just two. The only thing that hasn't increased is my pension!
  10. And what, pray tell, is the whole point of LEGO?
  11. A good price or a realistic price? A good price would be $200 - $250 US. A realistic price quite a bit more.
  12. The new hyper car is going to be old school - the Pontiac Aztec. I'll leave now....

Disregard - noticed post I was responding to was ancient.
  14. I want a new Lamborghini - am I being forced NOT to buy it as well? Yeah, I guess I'm missing the point. Using your logic, there's a ton of things I'm being forced not to buy.
  15. I just finished 42128 and you are right, it is packed with features! I just couldn't bring myself to put some of the stickers on it. The operational ones were OK but the ones with the 'orange hulk' got left off. I was especially impressed with the lifting third axle. If LEGO reissued it in a different color, I'm likely buy it as well. Maybe black and gold (NOT yellow!)???
  16. I'll list my top 3: 1). 42146 Leibherr Crawler Crane This is my favorite because of it's features, use/play-ability and easy expansion/modification. Yes, it's pricey - but no one is being forced to purchase it. 2). 42100 Leibherr Excavator A close second to the crane, also due to it's features and use/play-ability. Plus it just looks so bad megablocks, IMHO. Like a prehistoric dirt eater. It's a massive model that is so cool to play with. 3). 42055 Bucket Wheel Excavator Although there were some rough spots, like the place where the conveyor hangs up, it's still a very neat model that has a lot of features. People are always impressed when the conveyors start up, the bucket wheel starts to spin and the whole works starts to rotate right an left like a monster devouring everything in it's path! I am seriously considering taking this one apart to do the upgrades to make it more friction free. Honorable Mention: 42082 Rough Terrain Crane. I feel guilty that this isn't among my top 3. The features are great and they all work well. If it had been self-propelled, it would have bumped the Leibherr Excavator out of second place and into third. All of these sets are (IMHO) excellent and leave me wishing LEGO would do more. Cars and space stuff is OK, but as a person who grew up in a sandbox with Tonka and Pre-Tonka toys, give me construction, digging, hauling and lifting stuff! So what are your favorites and why? There are no right or wrong answers!
  17. That is a really cool build! Heck, it would even be a cool stand alone kit. Are you listening LEGO????
  18. I wish it hadn't been anonymous. I like people knowing who I am when I'm telling them how screwed up their business model is becoming. That way I can go back and say "See. I told you so!"
  19. Excellent built! It wouldn't take a lot of modification to make a mill from many of the same parts you used.
  20. I'll repeat: I'm not into space stuff, no matter what they call it.
  21. I can only speak for myself. I'm not into space stuff and although I have a couple cars, they aren't my motivating force either. Give me tractors, trucks, construction equipment with at least 2000 parts and I'm a happy camper builder.

I have casually given thought to 'helping' a bond with some glue but never actually done it. I would probably try something less permanent like wood glue.
  23. Welcome to the forum! Building things for the crane to lift is actually an extension of the fun of owning it, IMHO. I decided on a crate. I used a simple pine board, cut in lengths, then stacked and glued together. Balsa wood strips from a modeling store were used for the outside cribbing and a kit of hardware used in scale models provided the hooks and chains.
