42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
Sokolov Edward replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLego uses different styles of displaying changes in instructions - apparently it depends on the author. For example, look at the instructions for the new motorcycle 42202 - it is different from the G500. But almost always in Lego instructions you see the assembled part of the model in real colors - this requires the presence of contrasting details (yellow, red, green) to dilute the monochromatic model at least in the inner part of the structure. Some Chinese Lego manufacturers use a different style - they display the assembled part in one color or make it pastel - this allows you to show the details from the current step in contrast.

Sokolov Edward replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis is not the worst drawback of the instructions. If you assemble according to Chinese instructions or MOC, there will be more complex tasks.

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou are wrong - this is not a calibration problem - at first the hand hits the pole with the ball perfectly - the problem starts after several operations. In real robotics, the manipulator is guided to the object by external sensors - "machine vision", which allows you not to depend on the accuracy of the servo drive rotation - the system automatically adapts with each operation and does not depend on the displacement of the object. At the beginning of the video, your hand takes the pallet with an offset to the edge - for such a design this is not critical, but it is noticeable.

[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
Sokolov Edward replied to Milan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe long-awaited instruction for C61503 appeared in the YWOBB library. Unfortunately, the Chinese comrades like to "inflate" PDF files several dozen times and this instruction suffered the same fate. After optimization through the foxit pdf editor, only 45 MB remained from almost 2 GB. According to the manual, the C61503 has exactly the same set of motors and controls. The manual says nothing about new settings and applications for this radio control unit. Most likely, there was a redesign of the motors and cables with connectors, which began to look like new Lego motors. Other Chinese manufacturers (for example, IM.Master 9809) already used similar connectors several years ago.

[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
Sokolov Edward replied to Milan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf you believe the cover of the instructions, they really should glow. The only question is for how long - my wristwatch has an afterglow, but it's no more than an hour. They're not on sale yet.

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIn the video with the robotic arm, everything is not as smooth as you say - at 58 seconds the ball lands crookedly, and at 1 min 22 sec it does not hit the pole and falls. The drive of the turntable is not direct, but through a couple of gears and this is already enough for errors. The calibration action ends very quickly, and autocalibration is apparently not implemented or is not possible at all - correct me if I'm wrong. Another wonderful video about a factory made from Lego parts for building houses from greenhouse cucumbers:

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingA living confirmation of my words - even minimal use of gears between the motor and the mechanism still gives a noticeable inaccuracy of positioning. For home crafts this is possible and does not matter. It also has useful mechanisms in the household:

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAn ancient rarity produced in 1995-2000 - it is clear why I did not notice it. The Chinese have a copy of the Mindstorm - they did not add it there. There is information about it on Rebrikable, but there is not a single model using this sensor. It all depends on your tasks - I do not know them and do not claim that you will not be able to solve them, I just outlined the existing problems. There are many examples of robotics on Lego on YouTube. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide.

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWhat's the difficulty? In addition to motors with a controlled angle of rotation, you need 2 more sensors - colors - to track the route line and a gyroscope to maintain position. If this is the limit of your desires, then you can easily repeat it. Lego motors were enough for me to build drifters and walkers with radio control. I have enough programming at work - I am interested in assembling something with my own hands in the real world, and not inside a PC.

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIn your example, the wheel is on the motor axis. Try to get the same result by transmitting rotation through several gears with play. There is no external rotation sensor in Lego.

Advanced Lego robotics
Sokolov Edward replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAttaching an electric drive to Lego Technic is not the biggest problem now. You can find many projects on GitHub. But the main problem will be in the Lego parts - huge backlashes that cannot be calibrated or compensated will nullify all your efforts to program mechanical actions. To get an accurate mechanical response (movement, rotation, etc.), you need to use a stepper motor with feedback - there is simply nothing like this in Lego - this is a children's toy for learning the basics of robotics or inadequately moving cars. If you are satisfied with this level of control, then you can do this and get a lot of good emotions from the errors in their work.

42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
Sokolov Edward replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou understood the meaning of this word correctly. There is an old Soviet joke about "finishing with a file". In this case, the need for such finishing is sad, but it is better than when the part is cast with irreparable errors. Such parts also come across.

42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
Sokolov Edward replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBuyers in Russia also complain about this copy. The problems are the same - old tires, old #3 connectors are used instead of new #7 connectors, low-quality and broken parts. It is quite possible to assemble a G500 without the newest parts - it will be a fully functional analogue with an appearance close to the original in a color available to you. I showed it here Unfortunately, the quality of Chinese Lego copies is getting worse and worse. For me, the worst copy was the Peugeot 9x9 - I returned it to the seller half-assembled, because it was very difficult to disassemble. I recently bought a copy of the McLaren P1 for 44 euros. It also has problems with the quality of the parts and they had to be finished with a file.

What's happening with Technic?
Sokolov Edward replied to Amt0571's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou are right that Lego doesn't care about the Lego Technic community. It only wants to sell more. For this purpose, new parts are constantly being introduced to increase interest and protect against copying. Lego also fights copy-pasters with its licenses for parts and they are forced to cut them into pieces, which complicates assembly. But given the limited size of apartments (or houses), no one can buy Lego sets indefinitely, and the secondary market is also not bottomless. I have already started assembling the most interesting new Lego Technic sets from what I already have - information on my assemblies of the Audi E-Tron and Mercedes G500 is published here in the relevant topics. Maybe it's time to create a topic with this direction - replacing new parts with functional analogs from old parts and assembling new models from them.

42202 Ducati Panigale V4S
Sokolov Edward replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSome kind of unclear policy for new products - on the one hand, the instructions are kept secret, and on the other hand, the reviews show these instructions with lists of parts and step-by-step assembly of the model. Why not post the instructions right now, instead of waiting for the start of sales.

42202 Ducati Panigale V4S
Sokolov Edward replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf you are talking about panels 64394/64680, they are unchanged. The only thing that confuses me is the panel under the tank. This part is really new, but it is quite possible to install glass from BMW 75544pr0001. The color of the parts is not so important - with others it can turn out even more interesting than the original.

42202 Ducati Panigale V4S
Sokolov Edward replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThere is very little attention from the community to motorcycles in Lego Technic, and even less to the scale 1:5. Quite an interesting model with free instructions, suitable for assembly during the New Year holidays, provided that it does not contain any difficult to replace new parts.

[MOC] Ferrari LaFerrari 1:8
Sokolov Edward replied to T Lego's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThere are also big problems with the strength of Lego Technic constructions. Until recently, I thought that the 3L bar (87994) inserted into a round pin (61332 or 66906) blocked its exit from the round hole, but in the instructions for the new G500 it turned out that this is not so - see steps 28.6 and 29.6 of the instructions for 42177. To strengthen the structure, you will have to use bolts and nuts, screws or superglue.
