What are those pieces that make up the palm tree trunks?
  2. Of course, please do. I'm surprised by the decent spread of preferences so would be great to see a poll.
  3. Can I get the two attachments removed from this post please:
  4. Playing around with building techniques for islands. I wanted to see what other people prefer. Vintage - Bricks Only if you wanted a really stylised look I guess. Classic - Printed Baseplate Simple Plates - Tan Plates Blue baseplate and tan plates, reminisent of Pirate III from 2015. Slopes - Pirates of Barracuda Bay Medium azure plate with tan slopes. Can use the round slope parts 95188 & 58846 for convex turns. Hard to do concave bends in island. Slopes Curved - Eldorado Fortress Like above but with sloped curves. In addition to Brick Round Corner (76797), you can use Slope Curved with Stud Notch left and right (80177 & 80178). Slopes Curved with Dark Azure - Friends Beach Amusement Park (41737) As above but with dark azure plate for base and medium azure plates around the island. Detailed Plates - Tan and Dark Tan Plates Tiles - Tan and Dark Tan Plates Tiles and Plates - Multiple layers of plates and tiles Please comment if there is another build colour/combination you have seen. And definetly let me know what's your favourite, I'm happy to add more to the list.
  5. My voting is based on the original contest post stating "The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set". I was amazed at the quality of some of these but I couldn't see them as official Lego Pirates sets. The sets I'm voting for, I could all see on store shelves as actual sets. 6. Can I remove myself from the creative critics. I haven't had the time to participate. Don't want to waste the admins time looking at my minimal comments.
  7. Hidden Cache. A mini entry with 42 pieces including treasure and minifig. This pirate has hidden his treasure in some rocks and covered it in palm leaves. Seems to be guarded by some native wildlife as well. The cache can be accessed by pushing the axle. Total Pieces: 42 All parts exist and available on lego/bricklink. Cheers

Haha. I love it. The curved tower is AMAZING. Can't believe I haven't seen it before. Think you're my number 1 vote. Would like to try and play with the circular tower and see a bigger build with multiple towers.

Thanks so much for the kind words. For the gun barrel I did the same pretty much as 70412 Soldier's Fort. I do get it looks a bit spotlights. Would it be better to be more like 70411 Treasure Island? I think the big cannon would be to big for the boat but I want a cannon for some playability. What would you change the shovel to? I thought a shovel would make sense in the sand to dig for treasure? Would you change to a plant or rock?

Thanks for that. Yeah it does keep it all looking in the same theme. Thanks. Yeah I thought it would make sense from a lore point of view too.

Thanks on the island shape, spent ages moving pieces back and forth trying to get it right. When I build in real life I'll use better minifigs but options are limited in digital (from what I can see).
  12. I would like to see an exhaustive list. For what it's worth, I'll add the crane from various sets most notably Eldorado. Other sets like pirates 3 imperial Fortress and a winch, moreso than a crane.
  13. Ha, your churning these out. Looks great as always.
  14. This looks amazing, I loved Islanders but couldn't afford this set as a kid. I had every other Islanders set and dreampt abiut having Enchanted Island. This set looks so good in contemporary colours and pieces. The best thing about Islanders is there is so much colour, and you've really captured that here. The updated statue/head looks really good, you should be proud of it. The bridge must have been hard to do digitally but looks great. I like the floating/disconnected island. Allows more playability. Here are my nitpicks/suggestions: A bit more red on the other tower maybe, just a touch more colour. More foliage or something between the tiki statue and tower piece. It's just a bit bare and I think an official set would have something there. Fire for cooking maybe? In the same vein, under the bridge a bit of variation in the level of green plates would be good. Maybe even put water there and have the bridge span across two islands. Try and squeeze some play features in somewhere. Under the large rocky area I feel you squeeze in some technic functions for some playability. This set would be an instant buy for me, though I don't think lego would release any Islanders sets.

Why black and grey for the walls? I feel even the simplest official lego set would have a few more details than this. If you want to have the wall black then Add some details like MstrOfPpts suggested. Add a simple roof with just two sloped bricks. Maybe through a window in too. You could also try some variation in plant life. Add some flower stems, with or without flowers.

Check out the updated windows below and let me know what you think. I kind if like the angles on the cannon, feels very 90s lego pirates to me. Check out new pics below for a compromise. I feel this is one if those things where you can't please everyone. Let me know what you think of the updated design below. NEW WINDOW DESIGN:
  17. I agree with above, I think you should have omitted the car for entry to the contest. Apart from that, you've done well with the colour scheme. Is there any way you could fill out the rooms of the lighthouse? Either with some minibuilds or just some pirate minifig accessories from outside the two sets.

Thank so much, I really appreciate it.

Hmm, now I look at it I agree. Here are some alternatives: Original - How it currently is Angled - Angled windows makes it slightly more aggressive with minimal changes Faceted - Using facted bricks it fits the same asthetic as the cannon area. Plus a tiny bit of extra space, managed to fit in a barrel. Not sure if its too much doing the topmost tower area as well. Thank you, I appreciate you noticing the effort I put in. I'll take your comment for the pirate torso on board and will change it for any future renders. See my other comment regarding the windows. I agree the curved pieces don't match the rest of the asthetic. Let me know which of the other two looks better. I'm probably not going to change the crenelations. I know they're too low, but I feel lego (especially offical sets) take some liberties with realism for the sake of art/beauty. My favourite island building technique is dark tan plates (or tiles) and then tan plates on multiple layers. I think it looks most realistic. However I don't think TLG would ever do that for an official set. The technique I used of sloped tan pieces is straight from the new Eldorado Fortress (10320)/Beach Amusement Park (41737), which I felt was fitting. Thanks again for all the feedback, it's really appreciated.

Haha, you've got me curious now. I want to see now yours when its done. What do you mean by gimmicks? Like play features? The removable cannon is kind the only one I have, maybe the fact that the cannon can rotate on horizontal plane too? I love technic but thought it would be a bit hard to squeeze any in. If you meant minifig accessories and minibuilds, well I could try squeeze a few more in maybe, might look a bit busy though. Thanks, I really appreciate it. Look forward to seeing yours soon! Thanks. On retrospect this is a bit more Sabre Islandy than I planned. Never owned that set myself but know its very popular. Here is a render without the sand (tan slopes), looks a tad more like a cutlass.

Welcome to Cutlass Reach. An Imperial outpost built on an island so named because it is shaped like a cutlass. The cannon is rotatable, to shoot foes from all directions. Also, the cannon build is detachable, allowing easy access to the prison beneath. My favourite sets growing up were 6259 Broadside's Brig and 6266 Cannon Cove. For my entry I've tried to make something in a similar style with contempory design and pieces. In fact, except for the minifigs and imperial flag, all the elements are currently being produced and are fairly cheap to come by on bricklink. I'll probably post on rebrickable when I get time. Updated: I've updated the design slightly, below are the updated pictures. Changes at the bottom of this post. One of the things I really wanted to try with this build was making the island first and then building the outpost on top of it. It was a little harder than I thought it would be to make it integrate with the finished build but I think it'll pay off when I actually build it with physical lego. The island is supposed to be loosly cutlass shaped. It's not as clear as I originally intended but I'm happy with it. Please let me know your thoughts. UPDATES: Main change is updaing the windows on the first floor to now stick out with facted bricks, this allows some more space so I squeezed in a chair and table Minifigs now have some accessories to hold Added a parrot, pirate sets obviously require one Made a hidden treasure map, buried under sand - see pics Boat has a mini-cannon for some play to vs the fort cannon, also changed seat/plate colours Possibly some other minor colour changes Took a pic so you can see the prisoner pirate - don't think anybody knew he was in there Minifigs: 4 Total Pieces (-minifigs): 452 Cost on bricklink (-minifigs): ~$92 AUD Dimensions (width, length, height): 17 x 34 x 22cm (6.5 x 13.2 x 8.6inches)
  22. Just a bit more colour would really make this pop.
  23. Love a small ship build. The studless sails do look a lot better than with studs.
  24. You should try to make some of your own MOCs in the vein of these smaller pirates sets. These are really nice.
  25. Would like more pics but I love the sails. So vibrant.
