Questions about pneumatics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI'm not getting notifications from this thread... Worm gear is good idea, that is probably best way to produce the required force for the switch. I have the ones with two holes. e: This could also work: https://brickset.com/parts/4528037/linear-actuator-10-15-m

[HELP] Generic Building Help Topic
pekka111 replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks :) I guess 3D printing is difficult, since you would like the tolerances to be quite small. Is there a reliable (Chinese) brand that makes original looking and durable parts in those missing sizes?

[HELP] Generic Building Help Topic
pekka111 replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBeginner question: all the beams have odd number of holes? Half beams have 6 hole version but not one with 4 round holes? So do you cut custom lengths if something else is needed?

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI agree 100%. And since you won't (usually) make parts, you have to use a bit of imagination when making things work.

Questions about pneumatics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGood to know that genuine switches might get looser over time.

Questions about pneumatics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis in nice invention. I meant that because the switch is so tight, you have to have a long lever for it. Btw I just got some new used switches and they are easy to work with and would work like in your video. The ones i got earlier are so tight that legos would break first. They are hard to move even by hand. Maybe they are faulty. e: just noticed new/used switches have label "mould king" on the side :(

Questions about pneumatics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks for the answers! So with longer lever and gears you could move the switch. But now that I think of it, if you have the second motor for moving the switch, you can also use it for a second pump and have two separate lines? Inspired from msk6003's video, I tested connecting cylinders directly to each other. They work utilizing over- and underpressure, but that action seems quite stringy. But you could transfer movement in both directions with one motor that way. And by using springs. Do you know if that switch requires as much force?

Questions about pneumatics
Is there a motorized switch for pneumatics? Manual switches (47223) require so much force that doubt they can be automated. Do pneumatics wotk always with overpressure? So there is no reverse function with suck / underpressure?

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAny tips for getting sensors? I got some 88007 distance/color sensors but missing all the rest. Do you know if there are any sets that have sensors, other than Education sets? There are some cheap second hand sets with power functions, but there might be some latency if you use them through infrared connection (https://docs.pybricks.com/en/stable/pupdevices/pfmotor.html).

Physical remote control with pybricks
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI wouldn't mind the short distance of infrared but if no support in pybricks... Bt remote 88010 mentioned here seems to work so that it is. Thanks for the help! <rant> And looks like my 88012 hub would be useless without pybricks. Just tested with powered up app. I wonder why lego makes this stuff so unnecessary difficult. </rant>

Physical remote control with pybricks
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingOkay so next question :). What is wrong with infrared? I don't have the parts yet but got a cheap offer for Lego 42030 set with two remotes and sensors.

Physical remote control with pybricks
Hi, is it possible to have physical remotes (not phone app) with a pybricks system? Especially i'm interested in infrared. So I would like to program some automation with pybricks and add some manual controls too.

pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAwesome examples here what can be done. And I don't know any system that can do so much with ready made parts.

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWith Lego it's easy to get started. Then after some experience, maybe I'll find that they aren't enough but nothing lost in that situation, just move on to other systems.

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIMHO those two wheel balancing robots are sign of sophisticated control enough. There is this rotation sensor but might be hard to find: https://www.brickeconomy.com/set/9756-1/lego-mindstorms-rotation-sensor

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis Im trying to find out so I can search for suitable Lego sets on offer. I just bought (not received yet) a second hand 42160 Audi RS Q e-tron which has the "technic hub" and 3 motors to get started (if they work).

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks for the clarifications Lok24. What I mean by "Pybricks works" is that they list the compatible parts on their website. Though i would like to see the exact part numbers, since there are several parts that look exactly the same but I have no idea if they will work. For example Technic / medium hub: 88012, 22127, 85824 Spike Small Angular motor: 68488, 45607 Pu XL motor: 88014, 22172 Color Sensor: 37308, 45605 Distance Sensor: 37316, 45604 Force Sensor; 37312, 45606 Is there any info on those, are they the same parts and thus compatible with Pybricks?

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLego says The Control+ and Powered Up components aren’t designed to be compatible with the SPIKE Essential or SPIKE Prime hub, which means they won’t be detected by the SPIKE app. https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/help/LEGO_Education/spike-essential-with-other-robotics-systems-kA009000001KVc8CAG And: The new hub and the motors also belong to the Powered Up family, so they share the same port and protocol like the Powered Up, the Boost and the Spike Prime sets. https://racingbrick.com/2019/08/control-plus-aka-powered-up-new-hub-and-motors-clarification/ So physical ports and protocols are compatible but Lego apps will have issues while pybricks will work (as you said). I'm not going to mix hubs, but will buy sets on sale which have various motors and sensors, so they should work with any of the better new hubs. Probably getting Spike if find it for a good price.

Advanced Lego robotics
pekka111 replied to pekka111's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo I have studied the parts a bit and there seems to be at least 5 (!) different ecosystems: Mindstorms EV3 / NXT Wedo 2.0 Powered Up Control+ Spike Is it really so that these are not compatible? Lego support says for example that Spike hub does not connect to powered up devices. So if you would like to buy sets for Spike system, you are out of luck. This is grazy...
