I heard that the LEGO store here in Calgary ran out a couple weeks ago. Seems LEGO online still had them online until November 2nd-3rd as that's when I saw it not come up anymore. TRU seems to be jumping on LEGO extras with their Xmas catalog...free R2D2 USB ($14 value) with > $50 Star Wars set, free LEGO watch ($25 value) with > $75, and $10 gift card when spending over $50. So, essentially, what, $50 in goodies if you spend over $75 in Star Wars. Can't see where you can't stack these offers... You can!

LEGO in Film & TV: Index of Appearances
AT the end of the screen credits the completed Death Star was "featured" Bill Prady (@BillPrady) tweeted after the show's East Coast airing that the "Lego Death Star was originally in Sheldon's mom ep. When we cut it, the staffers who built it nearly cried." He then added that it "took about a month of staffers using the odd free minute to assemble to 4/5 completion." This episode's end titles has Chuck Lorre's Vanity Card #364, thanking the show staffers who built the Death Star model out of Lego pieces, followed by a picture of it. Sheldon: Last night, I was strong-armed into an evening of harp music and spooning with an emotional Amy Farrah Fowler. This on a night that I had originally designated for solving the space-time geometry in higher-spin gravity and building my Lego Death Star. And why? Your gal pals, Penny and Bernadette went out shopping for some wedding nonsense without Amy, an action they took with no thought or regard as to how it would affect me, the future of string theory, or my lego fun time!

How to clean your LEGO sets/parts?
After using air I use a product called Cyberclean. This is a gel like substance that's normally used for electronics and keyboards and gets into all kinds on nooks or crannies and the dirt and dust stick to it and is lifted out. Apart from a brief lemon scent I have noticed no adverse effects to color or stickers.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Seeing as the bump codes tend to differ by lot (production stamp on bottom seal and box)the feeling method is the guaranteed method. That being said, once you identify what the bump code is for that lot the bumps do make it easier and faster going through the box if you're looking for multiples.

And don't forget there is a LEGO-brand store 3 hours to the south of Edmonton at Chinook Centre, in Calgary. And from there it would take another 5-6 hours to reach a modest US city for retail items (Great Falls, Montana). Check in with NALUG, which is the Edmonton local AFOL group...they do a number of events up there. I'm in Calgary and we have SALUG, of which one of our major events coming up is Supertrain in mid April! w.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
In my travels with these I've come across 5 different lot numbers and 6 different bump codes...one lot number having two bump codes. Using the Elf and hula girl as a guide there were indeed 5 different bump patterns for him amongst the 5 lots...some were very close to being identical but actually differed a small bit. And, quite often, the rapper had a very similar pattern as the elf, with the addition of a bump overlapping with the lot stamp. Assortments also seemed to have differed...early cases has only 2 fishermen but have found boxes with up to 4. I even have the case it came in and has the Chinese distributor on it :). I have been finding these at Chapters/Indigo up here in Canada...not sure where all my comments in other threads about this have gone... they look to be confining it to one box out at a time, between the four locations I have been

I've found they are the same as the regular Wal*Marts...what makes them "Supercentre" is the grocery section. And, living in Airdrie, I frequent this one often. I've also seen in the past that the Supercentres will receive stock before the regular Wal*Marts. I was at the Chapters/Indigo here in Mount Royal, Calgary during lunch and they had the minifig cases on the counter. They said, and it might be because it was an Express location so space was a constraint, they would only put another box out if this was was empty...figure the main locations might put out a decent number...I recall Chapter's in Crowfoot had 5-6 cases of Series 2 out before Xmas.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
I came across 8 boxes the other day - 5 were still sealed. And these were 2 different lots (as indicated by the stamp on the bottom seal and the bottom of the box). Each had a different assortment and in the case of the elves 1 lot number had 2 different bump patterns and and box assortments (3 in one, 2 in another) and the other lot had another bump pattern and what might be only 1 per box, having felt through the whole box without seeing or feeling another similar pattern! And, yes, these were sealed boxes found in Wal*Mart here in Canada.

No...I gave up at six (return a favour for a friend)...the fingers were getting sore...Just stuck with the unopened boxes thinking that someone already pillaged the open boxes as the first open box did not have any elves (as far as I could tell...took me a bit to figure it out and I wasn't going to return to an open box given the time). And, given the randomness it was getting confusing. Did manage a gorilla, cyborg, snowboarder, and hula for the kids. The samurai, fisherman, space alien, tennis player, and tribal chief got easier to tell by feel over time Just an observation, the bump pattern was very close to the rapper, no matter what the lot number was...only difference was by feel for a ghetto-blaster. As of this writing no doubt they will be out by day's end. When I was there a lady saw what I was up to and mentioned her son and his friends were waiting for these to show up, having missed their "wants" and the LEGO store earlier this month. And, given the randomness it was getting confusing. Did manage a gorilla, cyborg, snowboarder, and hula for the kids.

Can be found at Wal*Mart Supercentre at Deerfoot Outlet. Just under 8 boxes worth, 3 of which were picked through. Bump patterns are different between the two lot numbers I found embossed on the bags (544BO and 444BO) and within 544BO found two different bump patterns for the same figure (Elf). The assortment seemed different as well...3 in one, 2 in another, and then a single (444BO). Looks like mileage will vary.

Building rituals
I would usually peruse the instructions first and figure out if their are sub-models I can work on without a required step before. For example, for the 8043 Excavator I built all the coverings first, followed by the boom assembly. I then build the "transmission and battery box" unit and only then did I start on the main tracked unit and body. And if there are numbers I would typically start with any number beside 1 first! I would wash my hands and then sort the bags out, as some are multiples in the larger sets. I would for smaller pieces empty a bag(s) per container (have been using the packaging for those SW Galactic Heroes as they are shallow and rounded). For larger pieces I have several serving trays. TV would be on in the background as well.

Glued magnet sets
All new sets released since Pharoah's Quest ones are glued. Those ones on sale are possibly older stock (early 2010) and are probably not glued...and hence the reason why they are selling them so as to get them out of the system. I have noticed at S@H there seems to be a reintroduction of some previously existing SW magents sets that I hadn't seen for awhile (Boba/Leia/Guard(2009), Chewie/Vader/Obi(2008), Yoda/Windu/Dooku(2009)) and will assume these are now glued.

Wal*Mart out here (Calgary) finished their re-facing and all the new SW sets are out (apart from the Windu and Geonosis Exclusives)...only looks to be a case of each. Pharoah's Quest and Ninjago are also out as well. No Series 3 yet.

I've also always liked how they will "refresh" their shelves more often than Wal*mart and then quickly clearance out stuff as soon as no more can be ordered from a supplier so as to put new sku's in place. Unlike Zellers and the Bay who tended to keep old stock around until it finally sold. Really good deals can be had this way. On my last trip to a Target a couple years ago I found some larger sets (crane, Star Destroyer) at half-price!

Finally Series 3 hits Canada!
Great find! Nice to know they let you buy the box! The case breakdown is also good to see. Was there a price increase or are they still at the Wal*Mart price of $2.87? The LEGO store here in Calgary had them on Jan 1st but heard they sold through in a week...40-50 boxes! And they had a limit and the bumps were definitely hard to read. Out of my son's and my 32 we had 5 tennis players and sumos, 4 aliens and mummies, 3 rappers, tribal chiefs, and race car drivers...no elves, pilots, space villains, or gorilla suits...out of a "supposed" sealed box.

I've heard Abbotsford, BC. In and around the the June/July time-frame. I heard about this and Toronto back in July when Calgary opened.

Hi I'm Mike from Canmore.
So then I will assume you've made it out to the LEGO store here in Calgary since it's opening 5 weeks ago. And, just maybe, you know about a little group called SALUG! Live the Brick!
-
Canadian Eh?
Nope. They primarily only have standard brick and plate in whole range of colours. Nothing so specific as the items you've asked about.
-
Canadian Eh?
I think the focus was primarily on standard brick and plate in the wide assortment of colours. True, it's not quite the assortment of unique elements found in the LEGOLand stores but would not expect this to be a focus on their first go-round. I figure in time we will start to see bulk tile and plants once the PaB wall "matures".

Soft Opening was yesterday, Thursday, July 8th. Have to ensure the staff is trained up and dealing with public well. They had a trainer up here from Seattle to ensure things went well...couple hiccups at the tills when I went through (they couldn't find my VIP account). Block Fest will be held Saturday, July 9th for the kids to coincide with the 50th Annual Chinook Centre Stampede Breakfast. Grand Opening is Friday to Sunday, July 16-18th. A Master Builder will be up here for the 8tf Buzz Lightyear Build. There will be the Opening Exclusive Set as well as a commemorative Duplo brick. It's a great looking store and first one in Canada! It's the newer design layout which is pretty cool with all the sculptures and models interspersed amongst the built-up retail sets. They did not have that fancy virtual machine working yet. They also have a Build-A-Fig station as well as that Pick-A-Brick Wall. As one staff member I talked to said...."I love the smell of ABS in the morning!"...that's a shirt idea

Grand Opening has been set for July 16-18th. I've heard rumours of a soft opening on July 8th. Now that LEGO has Loyalty Points there might be "some" advantages to paying MSRP at the LEGO store. Mores sales by any store would still be appreciated though!

US Target Exclusive. Was hoping Zellers was going to bring this in...didn't look too likely given they've had TS3 for awhile and even a sale. Went to S@H instead. (Or I could've waited another month for that LEGO store to open up at Chinook in Calgary )

Android App to Check Lego Set price
Thank you...it's nice to have a specific LEGO app for price-checking other than just the barcode reader. Installed on an HTC Magic in Canada. Maybe redundant but might be nice to get the set name as well in the results seeing as occasionally one might input the wrong number or those instances where LEGO had re-released a number.
