Black Friday 2008
My WalMart still had three King Castle Sieges five days after black friday and they were still priced at $50. So if you missed it, keep checking the shelves. Maybe someone will return it and when it goes back on the shelf, it seems like it will remain at the $50 price.

Bricklink Mild Annoyance
After the first couple of orders I now check every order thoroughly against my original invoice. If I didn't, I know some of these small mistakes would slip through my attention. Just like it no doubt does when the seller packs them. We're all human ... I may try the small test order thing, but with so many bricks you never know what you get. It's been great to hear about others' experiences!

Bricklink Mild Annoyance
I've only emerged from my dark ages around a year ago, and in that time I've made around 16-18 bricklink orders ranging in size from small handfulls of pieces, to boxes packed with hundreds of bricks. I have yet to have ONE package arrive at my house containing exactly what I ordered. Every time I am emailing sellers to let them know they sent me three of this instead of the four I ordered; or they sent me this brick in black when I ordered it in blue; or they sent me this red slope when I ordered an inverted slope, etc. It never fails! Every order has a small problem! Now I also have to say, every time the seller is also quick to correct it, apologizing, sending me the correct bricks or giving me a refund or what have you. But this always takes extra time and I feel bad for having to pester these sellers. I'm not complaining. I know picking through thousands of bricks must be tedious and mistakes happen. I totally understand. And I'd rather have Bricklink exist with small problems than not have that amazing resource at all! I'm just wondering if this happens to other buyers too, or is it just a coincidence that I've had this unusual run of problem orders.

REVIEW: 7635 4WD and Horse Trailer
Thanks for the review! Love the SUV. Add my vote to the list of those who are calling this set WAY overpriced. This strikes me as a $14.99 set for sure. $25??? That's just ridiculous.

REVIEW: 6390 Main Street
Love this set! I also have both the original and the legends version and agree it is so nice to have buildings that are not police stations or fire houses. Just wondering, has anyone ever done an analysis comparing the differences between the sets? The number of pieces, printed vs. decals, etc? I did a search and couldn't find anything ... I just think it would be interesting! Great review! I enjoyed it the first time it was posted and enjoyed reading it again in the thread revival!

Review of 1854, The Velux Promo House
I wanted to take a break from four projects I’m working on right now, so I thought I would attempt my first ever review! This is of one of my favorite sets, 1854, the “House with Roof-Windows,” or, the Velux Promo house. VELUX Promotional Set Set # 1854 Theme: Town Year Released: 1996 Piece Count: 212 Minifigs: 2 List Price: $23.00 (USD) Like the Vestas Windmill, this set was originally produced for employees of Velux. Velux was nice enough to actually sell sets on their company website to the general public, making this little house available to many AFOLs. This is a fairly small house, and it’s one of the few city/town buildings that does NOT come with any sort of vehicle. No bicycle, no car, no truck, no nothing! I personally like that because I have way too many vehicles as it is! Here is the box: The box has several alternative models on the sides and on the back: Here are the instructions: In the back pages of the isntructions, there are also more photos for the alternative models, and even some instructions on how to build them. I did not apply the stickers, but they are included for the windows, the flag, and for one minifig torso. The house comes with two minifigures: A gent with a baseball cap and a lady with a black ponytail. The minifigs have several fun accessories. There are wine glasses for kicking back on the front patio. Also, two pieces of mail: Are they bills to pay, or letters to loved ones? A brown hairbrush is included so the lady can keep that ponytail looking sleek. Two mugs are for the morning coffee after the long nights of knocking back the vino. The obvious detail of the exterior are the sloped windows. I've just realized by looking at the photos I've done a crap job on getting the roof together tight over the windows. I'll edit that once my camera batteries finish recharging. I love the color scheme. Yes, it’s yet another white building, but the dramatic red roof makes it stand out, and I love the blue windows and the door. The exterior light and house number are nice touches. The inside of the house has two floors. The ground floor has a hallway/foyer with a ceiling lamp, and then a living area with a table and two chairs. I love the shelf around the bottom of the room ready to be filled with knick-nacks. The upper loft floor has a small bed big enough for just one minifig. I think the two lamps are another nice touch. The set comes with a handful of extras, including more slopes to build the alternative models. I also own the first ever town house, the vacation house, and the holiday villa, but this simple lean-to is really the standout of my town suburb! I give it a 10/10 in terms of visual appeal and design. Playability is a 9/10. There are a lot of fun accessories that you can use to make a lot of at-home scenarios. For value, it's not great, I'd give it a 5/6 out of 10. If you got it from Velux originally, you got a deal. But at around US$50-$60 on ebay or Bricklink for this little house now, it's a bit much for what you get. Again, this is my first review so I apologize if I’ve left things out. I’ll be happy to edit it if anyone has any suggestions.

MOC: Mini Town
Wow, HB, that's impressive! I love it! How did you do the awning on the tan/bley building? What parts are those? Really lovely work!

How do you convert a non-motorized train to 9V?
Ahhhhhh! Many thanks, Eilif! That makes complete sense. I checked out those bricklink parts and they look exactly like what would be needed to build the "X3." Man, train parts aren't cheap, though. The motors cost more than many sets! Thanks to everyone who helped out. Moose, there actually weren't instructions how to build the 9V parts in the original instructions because the original set was a decorative train only. That last page in the book was just a (very vague, as it turns out) guide as to how one could transform the 4708 to a 9V train with additional parts not included with the set. I guess that's why the drawings were so "ghost-like." They depicted phantom parts!

How do you convert a non-motorized train to 9V?
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I can see on bricklink/peeron there is such a part as non-motorized wheels: But clearly, this two-wheel set above is not the same thing as the larger box with four wheels shown in the instructions. What part is that? Thanks again

How do you convert a non-motorized train to 9V?
So I picked up a display-quality 4708 at a yard sale and while it's not my favourite train ever, I like the look of it, will definitely make use of the platform in my town, and I'd like to try converting the train to my 9v system. (Before I continue, yes I know that 4708 is a licensed set but since my question is train-related, it seems like my post belongs in the trains forum, where I imagine most of the train experts lurk. I also tried searching both forums and couldn't find any explanation to my question.) On one of the last pages of the instructions, there is a diagram showing how to convert the train to 9v, but I'm very confused. It looks like it's asking you to put FOUR motors on the train. That can't be right, can it?!? I looked up the existing 9v trains on Peeron and all of them -- which are much bigger, by the way, --- only have one motor. For this little train I would need four? So if those four motor-like apparatuses displayed in the picture aren't all motors, what are they? I searched on bricklink and didn't find anything except the train wheels. Is that first part the motor and the other three something else? If so, what? Again, I couldn't find anything else like it on the inventory lists of other 9v trains. Sorry if this is a dumb or obvious question ... I don't have a ton of experience with trains. Thanks for your patience and for any help!

New Church/Cinema
Great church, LegoFranks! I love the size of it, just perfect for a handful of pious minifigs. I'm working on a church of my own I'm hoping to show off to this site any day now. I'm also not religious but when I think of town essentials, there's no doubt that every town has a church. So I felt the addition of that familiar building makes my town looks more complete. I think it's more of an accuracy statement than a religious one, but I totally see why for many others building a church would seem odd and or out-of-place. That green color is so great for the church, too!
