[MOC] [WIP] Unimog U406
1gor replied to Pat-Ard's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingthan you live in somewhere in Baden Wurttemberg...even today when someone calls on phone my father and when he is in the bathroom we joke that he is in Baden Baden (you understand that I do not think about Casino). Older models are based on MBtrac 1500 with portal axes (if I'm not mistaken), when we talk about it I can send you photos with lime container block to see what I meant. WhatI wanted to make is wftrax 6 X 6 but have no those wheels http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=41896&colorID=34&in=A I need 4 of them for this model for this model http://www.werner-trier.com/1/wf-trac/4-x-4/ I need only one more of this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=47676&colorID=34&in=A to fit scale of my tractors I need to make mog based on this wheel/tire combination http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32019 on http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=86652 or http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32020 Even in Croatia (where I'm from) there are mostly U406 mogs used in forestry, but I saw one mbtrac 800 in the field and one mbtrac 1500 at one electric power plant. those mogs U406 are built with their 6cylinder 5.7l engines for eternity

1gor replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingor to make wheel that has positive offset. another solution would be that this part http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30374 is modified at the end to have ends like this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32494 to be used with those parts http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92906 or http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92909 despite bad turning angle thanks

Axle Collection Thread
1gor replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMichael, Differential should be in the middle of axle like on real car or tractor, and it should be 3 studs tall (this is no problem actually)

Axle Collection Thread
1gor replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMichael, track for each axle is calculating as distance between middle of left and right tire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axle_track Hope that my link is usefull the only way that I know is to use wheel with negative offset, so pivot point is closer to middle of wheel. Unfortunately LEGO has wheel from 8448 set and futuristic that have zero offset, and current wheels racing have one stud positive offset and wheel racing 62,4 X 46 from 8466 set has 1/2 stud positive offset, by my calculations. Please correct me if I'm wrong only way to make negative offset is like this http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=513018 problem is that it fits only simple axle and not this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92909 another problem is that wheels contact with axle is only good for display... I hope that now you understand what I think about distance... Regards

1gor replied to Pat-Ard's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingRoll cage is great, It tempts me to finish my wftrac asap, even without e-motors...only have to make smaller cvt. Im sure 90% that I'll post photos with my idea tomorrow, so you can use it for mog 406. Btw, 406 is my fathers favorite mog (he worked in Gaggenau in late 60s and early 70s) Kind regards Igor

Axle Collection Thread
1gor replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingquestion; not only for you Michael, but for all of you respected builders - do you know how to make steered driver independent suspension axle that has differential but is more narrow than 18 studs? It must use differential at the center of axle and universal joints?

[MOC] [WIP] Unimog U406
1gor replied to Pat-Ard's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNo I Really meant those 9X9 container blocks, similar to this solution (only use 8448 set wheel or wheel racing medium instead of trans blue container block) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=513018 or give me few days time, I'll make photos and post them here, so you could have (almost) compatible solution that has several advantages - tire is more stiff on this wheel/tire combo - on wheel from 8448 set pinholes are compatible with pins on postal axle housing, you need only to use axle to go through wheel and to use bush 1/2 to prevent wheel sliding on it - since wheel 8448 has no offset (medium wheel has negative offset) you can make steering pivot point closer to middle of the wheel (and make front track 2 studs more narrow) I've waited 2 years to find those red container blocks, so my Claas Axion project is alive again...now I need 4 lime wheels racing small, but that is another story I hope I could help, again if you need some more info please post questions and give me few days to make photos of "solution"

[MOC] [WIP] Unimog U406
1gor replied to Pat-Ard's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingfor red rims you can use container block http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=47676 within tire and wheel like you can see on my Deere 7230R http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=535335

[MOC] [WIP] Unimog U406
1gor replied to Pat-Ard's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingVery nice, wheelbase is perfect, cab is very good, just put black rims on it (if you have them) and it will be perfect. Just one idea - you can put front winch and other forestry attachments like on wftrac http://www.werner-trier.com/1/wf-trac/the-concept/

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI like to make mocs because there is so much arround us that could be great models, not to mention that it is challenge to make good model of a real thing. Everyone hes to decide what her or he wants to make original models or mocs. Due to economical reasons technic models have (imho) mostly unfinished or unusual solutions. Typical example v4 engines - they only exist in motogp, and machinery has usually inline 6 engines. some big douers have v12 and mercedes actros had v6 and v8 engines until last year... to make "copy" of someone else's moc is like plagiat and it is not some special level of creativity, but everyone has a freedom of choice;-)

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI like model the best set after Unimog U400 which is my favorite. But honestly I think of buying two of them and make 3 axles articulated hauler. I've become Unimog as present from my wife and thought great for parts. they I've waited for compressor (it was missing from box) with unfinished model. After a while I've deiced to buy another for parts, because I did not want to tokk it a part. The same was with 8448 convertible and I can not say that with 42030 will not happen... The reason why I want to buy complete model is that it is better than to buy only parts. Remember that wheels from 8264 set were really expensive. for about 10 wheels I could buy whole set in Muller store and If I may say so - it it never enough LEGO parts. As mostly of my models have transmission, It would be nice to put one 9F & 3R transmission in hauler. If you think it is weird, I wont blame you. sorry if explanation is to boring... Hi Neighbor, I use 8X8 dishes, part 3961. regards I

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI could not agree more. Finally (when I bought this set) I could make my flagship - it will be lime green with one E-motor (that I need from this set) and some interesting technical solutions... of course this model will be also adopted to yellow rims and green engine http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=535335

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingexactly. IMHO just yellow rims are the reason to buy this set, not to mention panels and green engine and green beams. We must be reasonably and except that bucket allone costs (in production) probably like whole pins from 42009, and mog tires are more expensive than 62.4X20

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHope to find some 11 holes beam in green with engine and 3X3 L shape thin liftarms were nice in green, but lets wait til august to see final product... btw. Volvo does build 4X4 articulated howlers A25D models if I'm not mistaken. Anyway great B-model despite several 11X5 yellow panels "missing"...

42030 - Replica by Dokludi
1gor replied to dokludi's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingfirst of all very nice job. Since you have no big enough bucket, you can make something from forestry line like grapple (since people on 42030 topic wonted some forestry machine) http://www.volvoce.c...<!--NoParse1--> just one info (if I could help) gear reduction on portal axles is 3:1 with one gear 24 tooth and one 8 tooth (at least on video)

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingand it would be perfect for "my" John Deere 7230R bith yellow rims and green engine as you can see under http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=535335 you're right as you can see under this link http://www.deere.com/wps/dcom/en_US/products/equipment/forwarders/forwarders.page?

Technic 2014 Discussion and Speculation
exactly, even smaller classes have front suspended axles and some bigger have independent suspension at the front. JCB Fastrac has both front and rear suspension

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
1gor replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIndeed, I apologize for my doubts about it. We only do not know if there is 4 or 6 cylinder engine inside. My guess is 4 cylinder Igor what we can see on this image http://www.flickr.co...08/12212356314/ it could be (finally) 6 cylinder in-line engine made by LEGO

Technic 2014 Discussion and Speculation
exactly the same issue as on 9398. But honestly yellow wheels racing medium is what I was waiting for at least 7 years. Now patience payed off. just have to wait if there is fake engine or just green block to act as fake engine. Never the less everything I want from set is there - Yellow rims, yellow rims, yellow rims, yellow rims, and a number of parts. It would be great august this year. Igor
