In Poland, we are celebrating the "Year of Lem" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of this author's birth. Therefore, many different initiatives appeared - how to commemorate his work. The contribution of humanity to the intergalactic civilization, based on the works of Stanisław Lem. In the eighth voyage, described in the "The Star Diaries", Ion Tichy stands before the assembly of the United Planets Organization and, among other things, has to explain what humanity can contribute by joining the Astral Federation. In the story itself, we have an attempt to answer the question, as is the case with Lem - quite perverse. For example: - nuclear energy? - that's how we built a bomb destroying Hiroshima at the beginning - what's the national income for? - for armaments and the army - belief? - yes, humans believe that man is the highest form of life in the world. Could humanity contribute something to an intergalactic culture? In theory, it could, but can a civilization really convince another civilization with its culture? Culture is inseparably linked with civilization itself, with the context of its creation, and her history. Culture originated in some regions of the Earth, is poorly understood in other regions. So would it be understandable to other races that have a completely different history, culture, and established canons? Maybe, for example, the symmetries and mimoids created by the Solaris ocean, were cultural products, but no one from the humans understood it? 2. Again, one might ask if anything produced on Earth could be of use to other races? In the novel "Eden", cosmonauts come across what looks like a factory, but none of them understand its operation and effects. It is even said that it is a factory that produces something pointless. Wouldn't other races that come to Earth acknowledge the same, seeing the operation of human factories? 3. Stanisław Lem - Eden by Grzegorz Ludwiczek, on Flickr Well, maybe mankind could show off the acquired knowledge? The theme of the library appears in many works by Stanisław Lem, but rather in the context of the vast amount of knowledge that people are increasingly unable to grasp. In addition, it is not known how much of this knowledge is so seriously useful for anything, or even does not obscure this meaningful knowledge. Is it possible in one person's allotted time to obtain necessary knowledge for a certain task in the thicket of collected information? 4. Stanisław Lem - Library by Grzegorz Ludwiczek, on Flickr Is humanity developing in any meaningful direction? Evolution shows the pursuit of minimalization, dispersion and simplicity, rather than creating highly complex structures, but at the same time sensitive to even minor damage. Just as mini robots won the fight against super robots in "Invincible", so works of culture that are simple, easy, mass-produced and with a "short life span" (for example internet memes), obscure great and monumental works that could actually be considered a contribution to intergalactic culture, or history. After all, the Internet is an ideal implementation of such a distributed evolution as well as overloading with meaningless knowledge and information. 5. So - what could Ion Tichy use as an argument for accepting Humanity into the Intergalactic community? Moszna Castle (Poland) ... has been following me for a long time ... ;-) Moszna Castle by Grzegorz Ludwiczek, on Flickr ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mansion in Moszna - a bit of history, that is, about the Prussian industrial nobility, two emperors, templars and devil. ;-) The original mansion in the village of Moszna was built in the eighteenth century. The village was then taken over by Georg Wilhelm von Reisewitz - cousin of the marshal of the court of the Emperor Prussian Frederick the Great. Although in the documents there are notes about the village as early as in the 13th century, and during the renovation works, the remains of the old palisade from this century were found - means there had to be something worth defending. After the war, brick cellars were also unearthed, which the legends say that they were connected by a tunnel with the chateau in Chrzelice, and from which the Templars were to use. The palace was initially a simple building, which in large part we can see today in the central part of the present palace. In the middle of the nineteenth century, the village with the palace changed the owner once again, this time to the Tiele-Winckler family - industrial gentry, one of the richest in contemporary Europe, which was the owners of, among others, Katowice, Miechowice (based in another palace) and many other places among others in Ukraine or in Africa. A dozen years later - most of the palace was burnt. Using the leftovers - the building was rebuilt, and expanded with eastern and western wings, obtaining a shape that we can see today. The speed with which the palace was erected again surprised not only the local residents, but even the Emperor Wilhelm II, who, supposedly, "how it was rebuilt so quickly" supposedly the owners answered "Lord, the devil helped us". ;-) Interestingly - on one of the walls a sculpture of the devil was actually placed (it was destroyed after the war), and next to the entrance, there are sculptures that were called "devil and nymphs" (this year - 2019 - it was considered that it is not a devil only Apollo and Marsja ... teeedium, hitory with the devil is better ;-p) During the reconstruction, apart from the devil, they were placed in a palace - 365 rooms - different for each day of the year - 99 towers - for every landed estate owned by the Tiele-Winckler family (these 99 did not come from the case - according to the law of that time, everyone who owned 100 or more estates, he had a duty to maintain a military garrison, i.e. a cost that the Tiele-Winckler dynasty would not bear.) - a glass roof over the living room in one of the wings - the countess wished this during construction The palace in 1945 was abandoned by the owners, fleeing from the advancing Soviet Army. They left in it all the valuables, works of art, furniture, etc. which they had transported from their property in Berlin a moment earlier. After the siege, the soldiers robbed everything they could, broke the mirrors, set up a stable in the chapel (because it was possible to drive in with the entire car), but fortunately - they did not destroy the palace itself (they did not burn, like many others). After 1945, the palace had various functions, among others it was the Center for Neurotic Therapy - for health improvement probably had a positive impact on the large park around the palace, with channels that even gondolas used to sail. Since 2013, the hotel and restaurant operate in it, and the rest can be visited with a guide or during events organized every time (during one of them the palace pretends to be Hogwarts, in others it is the Witcher meeting place ;-)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've started the palace more than two years ago. Initially I designed it on a scale minifig, because the amount of details in the original building is worth putting in blocks, but after making a piece in LDD - I gave myself because I did not want to invest in the "next wardrobe" and another several tens of thousands of blocks. Moszna Castle by Grzegorz Ludwiczek, on Flickr Moszna Castle by Grzegorz Ludwiczek, on Flickr Therefore, I can say that the model itself - it is 2PB in size - used over 1,500 blocks in reality by design, I designed it to fit the style of the "Architecture" series - judge for yourself if it worked. ;-) Although I must admit that I used some of the illegal techniques here, and the roofs in the wings have been rebuilt several times, and still have some chaos inside. ;-) Besides - a few things still possible, I will change: brackets in darktan, instead of reddish brown, in octagonal tower and black tile horsehoe - as arched windows, instead of square ones in several places. I tried to build this sculpture "devil with nymphs", but 4 characters would have to fit on 2 studs wide and 2 plates high - I finally gave up. In a few places tan tiles are used instead of darktan - but Lego did not release too many kinds of darktan bricks, especially bricks for the microscale. ;-( The colors of turret roofs are a standard number - in different photos, there are different colors, because it depends on the current state of the roofs. Therefore - I accepted a colorist to suit the model and did not require non-existing blocks. Hi! Our association "Zbudujmy.to!" was asked by Lego Poland to design and build a map of Poland along with several characteristic places. Such a map will be shown at the Lego events in Poland. One of the models that I built is the Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill in Krakow. Our models were not to exceed a certain size, so I built only a portion of the building complex. Design - 5 days Building - 2 weeks Size 64x105 studs The height of the highest tower - 46 bricks More than 200 lots About 20000 bricks Wawel complex is one of the best known sites in Poland. Archaeologists dug passages that suggest that already in the eleventh century there were more residential buildings. Later Wawel Castle was the seat of Polish kings and today is one of the places used as presentable by the Polish presidents. Thanks! :-) It has no interior. SNOT on the walls take another brick width, and in some places are more unattractive. I would have cover this with another bricks or plates. In fact the center place between building and gate are empty. Currently has been only empty place and some paths, but yet can be seen that there was not any landscaping. Landscaping on the model was my small imagination. Yet I'm thinking about building Cavalier Palace - small residence build for emperor Wilhelm II next to the palace. I think about give small carriage with Count Guido with his wife, and maybe some other minifigs, so it was not so empty.

Hi. Model of Schloss-Neudeck (pałacyk Donnersmarcków ze Świerklańca). Build in 1876 for his wife Bianka de Paiva by count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. Burned in 1945 by russian army, and finally destroyed in 1962. Palace was designed by French architect - Hector Lefuel (he designed for example Louvre for Napoleon III). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Makieta pałacu hrabiego Guido von Donnersmarck zbudowanego w Świerklańcu, dla jego żony Bianki de Paiva, a zaprojektowanego przez sprowadzonego z Francji architekta - Hectora Lefuel (który był nadwornym architektem Napoleona III, m.innymi projektując paryski Luwr). Pałacyk już niestety nie istnieje. Pod koniec wojny został podpalony przez żołnierzy radzieckich, a w roku 1962 ostatecznie rozebrany wbrew decyzji ówczesnego konserwatora zabytków. Two years ago a have an idea of building riuned or destroyed Silesian palaces or castles. This is first of this models. I'm bulding it for 5 months. He is 9 baseplates long, and 5 baseplates width, height approx 0.5m. Im using about 1000 windows, more than 1000 plates 1x1 white, and another 1000 plate 1x1 red, and another 1000 jumpers red, white and black. How much all bricks - i dont know :-) Walls are build with SNOT Only gate are survived to our times. Actually it stands on enter to Zoo in Chorzów. (on top is painted dog, originally this was gold lion :-) ). Originally, fountain with three nymphs are on the other side od the palace, but on this side are more visible in the cabinet on exhibitions. Hi I'm using these solution in my robot "number six" to pull up upper body, weight 3.5kg http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5527362 But, I'm using z24 Clutch instead of z16 because of "possibility" of different speed of the motors. Yes, using only liftarms is flimsy. I'm using technic bricks in turntable, chest with demultiplexer, and maybe later in root of body. Heh :-) Thanks :-) I don't have any video yet, I'm rebuilding turntable and some of corpse again on Friday few hours before opening exhibition :-) And he is still WIP, only moving, rotating and pulling up/down is working fully yet. Turntable yet is stable :-) but when i'm move up arms, the centre of gravity is changing again. I must rebuild demultiplekser (change technic bricks with liftarms) to decrease weight of upper body. I'm steering it with 4 Ir-pilots, and I'm building demultiplekser for moving arms because of only 8 canals He has, - 4 XL for two independent caterpillars (left and right) - 2 Medium for rotating body - 2 Medium for pull-up/pull-down body - 3 Medium for addressing 8 outputs for arms (on both sides: shoulder, elbow, wrist and fist/fingers) - 1 xl for transmission this - and at least 2 lights :-) It's: 95cm height 65cm width 50cm length and about 8kg weight It's 6th version (first I'm building 3 years ago), and I think last without NXT Yet I'm fighting with changing centre of gravity after rotating/pulling body I'm building big turntable and it is unfortunately not stable And of course he is well inspired by Number Five/Johnny Five from "Short circuit" P.S.
