Effe's MOC Corner
Stevee replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingi do, seems to me you don´t like me to be here Alasdair. Never felt so unwelcome like here. But - this is effe´s thread. At least it should be. So i´ll go...

Effe's MOC Corner
Stevee replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAlasdair, i´m so sorry. Seems to me: whatever i write here, i´ll insult the community. First approach was my fail not getting pics and vids of the 9398 within minutes when we got it - my decision to get data of the L-Motor first was wrong. So i was sitting for some weeks in a dark cellar, hitting myself with wet celery for that. Today they let me out. Man it was hard to see the daylight again. Now i failed also at the second approach here, thougt i mention how quickly effe builds those ingenious solutions and how it impresses me - in his thread. Will they put me in that dark cellar again? I should convert to another hobby like counting peas... dunno is there a forum for peacounters? Will you be my mate there Alasdair? ;o)

Effe's MOC Corner
Stevee replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust asked effe in a chat how long it took to create this masterpiece cuz i knew he build it today... more or less five hours. So i imagine how long a lego designer worked on that crappy 9397, maybe some weeks? Don´t get me wrong, i totally understand the difference. A lego designer has to create stuff for a worldwide market, kids and afols, design to cost issues and so on and so on... But, it always impresses me how effe builds solid stuff in a very clever way, good looking AND good functionality. Everything he creates is a great balance of this four attributes.

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingCheers mate but it was not real trouble - it was kind of John Wayne speakin: A man has got to do what a man has got to do ;) And every day i wake up and i´m not in hospital with a box by my side with a "jump cable" is a good day ;) Sun rises every day - if there are some clouds and i can´t see the sun: I know she is there and likes to shine on me - i like her ;)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingthx gentlemen - keeps my head up. You know, sometimes it not so easy. Today i had so many good and also bad news in my life. Walked out of my office rooms, thought: Lets go to The Mind and get the brain free, no chance to do anything for today. So concentrate on your hobby-mates all over the world. They are waiting for answers... will be fun to meet The Mind. A bitch rammed into my tiny little Porsche, she had to give me way but i had luck, only some scratches - but you´ll never know if there is serious damage at suspension system or whatever. Had to change to my "winter car" and realized: got to fill up some fuel, 10 minutes more and still 100 Kilometers - The Mind (never saw him before) is waiting. When i entered the Autobahn, i felt: even in a BMW - winter-tires in june, ratteling car was not be moved since four months: DANGER! No 240km/h, better 160km/h -.- I was three minutes late, took me some time to find his office cuz they are doing some rebuilding things there and was lucky to see him. He is a very friendly guy, was glad to meet him. Well, don´t get me wrong please. Another day in paradise with some trouble. Will not complain, never! Hope you are cool with the stuff we found out and thank you very mutch for your comprehension ;)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSorry David i wasn´t able to answer all of your questions - mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I tried my best, The Mind did also. Travelled some hundred kilometers to check some details together while you guys waiting for the important answers and vids. Yepp, you are right - we failed. Shame on me - but i learned: Whenever i´ll be the first to get an important lego set everybodys waiting for: Gonna rent a Van, will put my lego stuff in it, travel to a small island and check it by my self and never tell anybody about it... ;) Mate, we all got a job, a family, ways to travel to check things and so on and so on... Can´t speak for all of the Ladies and Gentlemen of Doktor Brick but i like to point out: Seems to be, some of us had the first sets. Proudly postet it and where ready to check the main questions - in this case about the servo. Answered first questions so fast, within minutes. Second issue was the new motor... Tonight i typed a lot with efferman. Not about the crawler. Imho about a much more important issue: a young guy, who´s doing amazing things with lego but maybe he does not have enough bricks for the "big stuff" he is dreaming about. How can we help him to get that young man (very friendly guy btw) motivated? We don´t know him really, we don´t know his parents and the circumstances and so on - but: I like to help every kid who is so creative and motivated in Lego - better than see them buying crack at the bus-station. Sorry for beeing pathetic, but maybe this explains a little bit: The very small german AFOL community (Moreless 40 active members) of "Doktor Brick" stands for taking care about each other in a nice way, and have fun with those little bricks. No matter if somebody is creating nice stuff, collecting or Technic. No matter about "Who got the most". So i have got to apologize, i was not able to deliver perfect Vids within hours, perfect three point lighting while a crawler climbs Pretzels, whatever :( But i like the way The Mind was ready when i told him: some guys at Eurobricks asked me questions: "No Problem mate, come over and lets see what we can do!" spirit... no more words to say ;o)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust my two cents about the L-Motor when i saw it today: Same speed as the M-motor, more power but not much larger, many holes to fit (wich is a great advantage imho) and less noise, a very smooth sound. Btw we tested two other motors too: With the old 4x5 the little Sticker on the tire for the Laser of the tachometer flew away - but first it took seconds to reach the max rpm

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo we did the speed test today, but for that The Mind had to disassemble his crawler. He´ll do the upside down vids and from the suspension with Power Puller Tires as soon as he rebuild it. I didn´t know he´s got only one set of the crawler tststs ;)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWill do so, think it wont be a problem to get this pics. I found a little Information about the receiver from Peters Crawler: When he build his crawler, he took an "old" receiver and it works too. But no detailled Info of the internal stuff, sorry. (Sorry still can´t link) Take care, stevee ;)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI´m gonna ask the mind if we can do a little vid of the crawler while it´s driving when i visit him tomorrow to check the rpm of the L-motor and will post the question about the big tires at the doktor brick board - thats all i can do for now - sorry mate ;) Take care, stevee ;)

9398 - Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler
Stevee replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHello guys, i´m also an user of the german Doktor Brick Forum like effe and and he told us you are wondering about the rpm of the new motor. So "the mind" and me decided to set up a "first responder team" to answer that question. The mind has got a L-motor, i´ve got a contactless tachometer. So on wendesday evening, i´m gonna travel to "the minds" place and we will check the rpm of all three motors under equal conditions. Had to remove links cuz it´s my first posting, but i´m pretty sure effe will deliver the links and pictures asap. Take care, stevee :)
