  1. Indeed, and the stern could prove to be difficult, since it is another piece.
  2. BSB 865 pieces for 110$: aprox 12,5 cents per piece, BB 566 pieces for 100$: aprox 17,5 cents per piece (and SES about 14 cents per piece). RBR and BB, both a 100 bucks, but it's 691 pieces vs. 566 pieces, so you get a better ship and a 125 pieces more, for the same price! so it is more expensive. Sure they're a lot of years apart, but a lot of (non-liscensed) sets today have just as good a price/piece ratio (or even better) as 10-15 years ago, but BB does not, and both it, and the older ships have "complicated parts".
  3. Most of the things you mention are parts, not design, a set with nice parts could have a bad design or vice versa (and those mast pieces are not a plus, they're worse than the original mast pieces). But I can't deny the minifigs are totally awesome. And the point is that the skull and crossbones are ugly, like they could have used them in 4+ line (not badass like on SES, RBR and RR; CBC skull and swords aren't that great, but they're better than the new one), they're on two sails, and they're badly positioned (as pictured on the box/instructions at least, on the bottom, top would be better).
  4. I'm in. I just hope it's not a "surprise turd-in-a-bag" or something
  5. Amen² BSB has FOUR cannons, and they do fire and skull and crossbones and sails are a big downside, they're the main reason this ship looks allmost 4+like , not a smart thing to have on your sails as a pirate (especially if they're not badass skull and crossbones like on the SES, RBR or RR). The only thing I agree with is the awesome new minifigs, it's only thing that is better than (most of) the old pirates, only I'm not sure if they fit in together.

Not sure which I'll buy, I'm mainly interested in the minifigs (and some accesories, like the telescope and fish), so I definately don't want each set. I think I'll buy a few of the soldier impulse set, 1 of the pirate impulse, 1 or 2 of the cannon battle, and there's a small chance I'll buy the soldier fort. I hope I can get most (or all) of the minifigs off BL, at a reasonable price (allthought I'm afraid they'll end up very overpriced), so I don't have to buy sets I don't like/want.
  7. An ok set, but not that usefull for me, I'm only interested in the minifig (just like with most of the new pirate sets), which is great. I hope I can get the minifig off BL.

I really like ships, but I wan't to focus more on land structures. Even though I am happy enough with the ships to keep mostly original, while bases that LEGO released need moccing (or I have to start from the ground up and moc something not based on them), since they are too small. So I voted bases, since I find them more of a priority than ships.
  9. BSB easily (both design-wise, and in a fight), any of "the big 3" can, all have more pirates, BSB 2 gun broadside, SES 4 gun broadside, RBR, 3 gun broadside (4 if you add another cannon). The new pirate ship could have a 3 gun broadside (if you count the cannon on the rear deck), but the 2 on the lower deck are kinda useless on long range, since they will shoot in the water (judging from the pics) and the rear one seems awkward. The new ship might be more maneuverable (if you count sails/lenght of ship) than BSB or RBR, but if it comes to firepower of manpower, the new ship doesn't stand a chance. So, new ship pro's: manuevarability/speed, the firepower is debatable, since the cannons are not that usefull BSB pro's: firepower, manpower, doesn't have skull&crossbones on sails, has a rowingboat (for the pirates) New ship seems generally a lot more <insert that tiresome argument> (some aspects even 4+ like).
  10. I like some of the parts, the colours, minifigs and there's like 6 (!!!) sets of those awesome lattice windows. But I don't like the design that much (the middle and bow seem pretty empty/bare, cannons point too low, etc.) or the masts and the sails (they're like 4+ sails). The new hull parts seem nice and usefull for moccing, although I don't think they are really better than the old ones, at least not for me, since I don't build huge ships that could benefit from expandable bow and stern parts. I don't like there are those empty spaces in the bow/stern with no studs, like the viking bow/stern. It could be nice that there are no holes in the side of the bow or back of the stern, but those didn't bother me that much, they have their uses as well. So it's ok, but I easily like any of the old (big) pirate ships better (BSB, SES and RBR), and it's a bit expensive, doesn't seem like it's worth the money to me.
  11. I like the IMTP sails the most, luckily I got them at a reasonable price a few months ago so I wouldn't have to but the rare IMTP itself :). But I like just about every sail from the original system pirate theme (even the ones with with skull&crossbones), but crossbone clipper sails are probably my least favourite. Unfortunately I don't have the crossbone clipper, carribean clipper and renegade runner sails (and 6296 and pirate perilous pitfall sails), and only 1 set of the others , except I have a few extra small "rowing boat-sails" and an extra triangular and mainsail from imperial flagship (despite not owning that set).
  12. This is a great set. When I was a kid I didn't like it that much I think, because I didn't like wolfpack, but now I do. Nice structure and good playability.
  13. Looks like an ok set, the "wall" is kinda useless, but I guess it ads playability. Why did they get rid of the old one?, it worked fine. Does this shoot further, or haven't you compared?
  14. If this is true, this is a very bad move from LEGO. I wouldn't be surprised if the sales in Europe would be way less than expected by TLG, but then again, they're overpricing things here and make us wait. So it's no wonder our money goes elsewhere. It's allmost like LEGO doesn't care and will leave the European market or something.

Way better than the old one, only downside is the sturdyness. But it is smaller, has a regular shape (and not an awkward part on top and bottom that doesn't fit in with the thickness of the wall) and is more versatile/usefull.

The new pics are looking good, but they don't look like they are worth the price (especially if the u.s. prices are the cheapest, as usual). I really hope I can get the parts and minifigs I want from BL or something. Ship hull looks interesting and looks well suited for moccing. To buy the entire sets for just a few nice parts I want isn't in my budget to do (like I would want the lattice windows, minifigs and hull of the ship, but not the sails and masts etc., so it would be way to expensive for me, and it is expensive enough as it is). I wish they'd bring out a minifig pack (or 2) with all the minifigs (so I wouldn't have to buy overpriced minifigs from parted-out sets) and some accesories. But the palm tree isn't new (I allready mentioned it a few months back when the first preliminary pics where out), they came out in 1998 or something with the adventurers, but where also used with 4+ pirates (and they look hideous).

Why are these already released in the u.s. and not anywhere else? Cheap prices (compared to the rest of the world) and early releases?, come on! Why TLG?, Why? Does TLG hate the rest of the world or something? If I'm going to have to wait much longer and TLG just switches $ to € sign (or worse) I'm not sure if I'll get them. They're nice sets, but there's "something" which isn't right, and it's not worth paying too much for. Dunno what it is. I do like the backprint, and I really like the look of the minifigs, but I still have to see if they'll fit in nicely with the old pirate minifigs. I like some of the new parts though (telescope ).

I really like this one. There's just loads of detail and activity in such a limited space, and the different levels of elevation make it a great moc. There are some points to improve, but those are already mentioned by others (although in my opinion tiling isn't really needed, it's nice as it is now).
  19. All my 20 imperial guard torsos have gold buttons, never seen one with black buttons before, new to me.
  20. I really like the double-sided 2x2 plate a lot. But I wouldn't use it since it isn't LEGO, but they should produce it (in various sizes).
  21. Awesome set with some great parts, definately the best harry potter set. 5/5 A lot of playability as well, very complete set. A definate must buy.
  22. The piece for the well looks like a "chain link" piece (like from the hailfire droid set), and the part of the fencework that would open is "Dark Gray Hose, Rigid". Incredible moc, very inventive uses for parts and very detailed
  23. You got me there , but how could someone do such a horrible things to the beloved redcoats? Didn't even realize that they also used red boats (and I even have the bounty boat set twice ), indeed not a pretty sight, but in 2 out of 4 sets the boats where for the pirates that they fought.
  24. And that's why they also invented brown boats . Go brown boats! They look nicer anyways. Redboatscoats are way cooler than bluecoats, just look at their boats. I do have more bluecoats than redcoats, but that's probably because it's easier to get them (maybe they're the unwanted bunch ).
  25. Imperial Flagship, hands down. It is better proportioned and has a nicer minifigure selection (as stand-alone set) than the CC. And CC has no sail for the rear mast and not even a mast base for that mast, the rigging is wierd +it feels too empty. Armada Flagship is nice (and has nice minifigs), but it has a bit too much colours in it and has only 1 cannon (althought it doesn't really seem like it was designed as a battleship, so that's ok).
