42009 in USA Toys R us
chief test pilot replied to Todd Nemeth's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI wouldn't buy Lego for TRU unless it was a last resort. They jack up the prices too much. Even with BOGO or BOGOHO their prices still are too high. Such a shame....

Will Technic flagship models keep getting bigger?
chief test pilot replied to Tubby's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGood points. Especially your last....there needs to be a reason for the sets to be bigger. Just making a set bigger for the sake of doing so doesn't mean anything. There has to be a good subject, well thought out design, playability and functionality. The right balance of those elements are what make a set a 'flagship' set.

42009 and 42008 at amazon ?
chief test pilot replied to Lakop's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNot bad. I just ordered a 4x4 crawler from AmazonUK to the USA and shipping was ony $8USD. Hmmmm....I just noticed that it says "Usually dispatched within 3 to 5 weeks." That would imply they really don't have it yet. I would be interested to see if that changes after Aug 1st to "Dispatched in 2 to 3 days"

NXT/Mindstorm tutorial information needed
chief test pilot replied to chief test pilot's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHmmm, I wonder if that would allow the NXT motor to connect to the PF IR receiver....... If that would work then I can use the PF transmitters since one of my other goals is to use the unique shape of the NXT motors for space considerations.

NXT/Mindstorm tutorial information needed
chief test pilot replied to chief test pilot's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo it looks like the NXT 'brick' replaces the PF battery box. However, I want to use the NXT servo motors (not the PF motors). From what I understand the NXT servo motors have a different style connector than the PF motors. What I want to know is how do you use the IR Tx/controller to operate the NXT servo motors....or can this even be done? I'm trying to achieve proportional control like you would through a traditional RC transmitter. I would also like the steering servo motor to self center without having to resort to mechanical methods (i.e. rubber bands)

NXT/Mindstorm tutorial information needed
chief test pilot posted a post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI see folks using NXT/Mindstorm servo motors to drive their Lego creations and combining them with the IR PF controllers. How exactly is this done? My basic understanding of Minstorm/NXT is that you program the functions you want thru the 'brick' (or brain) and then the creation will run autonomously. Is there a way to use the NXT equipment without the 'automation'? How do you use the NXT items for R/C type control? I am very familiar with traditional proportional R/C control as I fly RC helis and planes and have several RC cars as well. How does NXT/Minstorm allow you to convert Lego vehicle to R/C type control? jeff

chief test pilot replied to tripletschiee's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust picked a NIB one up off ebay for a great deal. It arrived in 2 days....amazing. I opened it up today after the postman dropped it off and my 6 y/o wanted to start it right away. She was that excited about it.....more so than I am. :)- hello
Hello all, Just found this site...I've been building Lego's since the mid 60's. My father was from Denmark and my grandparents would send me Lego sets every year for Christmas. None of my friends at the time even knew what Lego's were. You had to go to high end, specialty toy shops just to find them. I probably played with Lego's until I was 11 or 12 then put them away until I had kids of my own and they were old enough. I got out the old bricks for them to play with and they loved them just as much as I did. In the interim I moved on to RC planes, helicopters and cars as well as HO trains and plastic scale models. I never lost my love for Legos, however. Even though I didn't actively build them myself I bought more than enough sets for my son. His preference is the Star Wars theme. We initially built these sets together until he was able to go it on his own. Now I'm getting bit by the bug and this time around it's Lego trains and Technic sets for me. I see the older Technic sets on ebay and I cringe at the prices knowing I could have bought them new if only....... I still have those 1960's vintage bricks in my inventory.....now my 6 y/o daughter has started putting them together. But of course, most of you have already heard my story a thousand times now. cheers, Jeff - 8110 - Unimog - MODs and Improvements
