Finders Keepers, Loosers Bleeders (Final)
I tried a few different things to make the canon fire more obvious, but it's very difficult because of the scale and also the ship is just out of focus with the depth of field. In the end I opted to just have the canon showing and not try to create a puff of smoke. There was also the danger that the demolition of the wall became more significant than BB wielding his swords. The photo is all about the legend of BB. I gave the swords quite a bit of thought. Eventually my thinking was this. There are only really two types of sword that can be used. I didn't want to use guns because BB could very easily just be shot in the back and it's game-over. The cutlass pirate sword is the best, so BB has two of those. One of the dead guys has a sword in this back. And what's worse than being stabbed to death in the back? To be stabbed with your own sword. So by having all the good guys with the same type of sword it make’s the connection that the guy with the sword in his back was killed with his own sword. BB is evil.

Finders Keepers, Loosers Bleeders (Final)
There are a lot of prizes and you have a fine entry, I think you have a good chance. Short memories, it was only 3 weeks ago. So much for making a unique and unforgetable 1st draft.

Finders Keepers, Loosers Bleeders (Final)
Thanks to everyone for the great sugestions. Most of them made it into the final build. I have put the latest photo's at the start of the thread, hope you like them.

You have been sentenced to death by immurement !
Nice MOC Zorro, I like it. My 2 cents: - Too much grey, break it up, maybe with some random bley? Or brown. - Give the peices a clean, if you're taking photo's don't use dirty bits. - Have the builder filling the wall in, he currently looks like he stopped for a photo opportunity

Pillage the Village Promo

Finders Keepers, Loosers Bleeders (Final)
The awesome feedback I received made my final MOC's (small & medium) so much better. I figured I should get some WIP images in here soon, so I'll still have the time to make any changes. I don't have huge piles of Lego bricks but I wanted to make an epic large. So I opted to make a lot of the background detail micro-scale. The competition is judged from one picture so having lots of background bricks doesn't really help, does it? Story will come later as will better final photos. I updated the images at the top of this thread so I moved the early ones down here: I don't have any pirate ships I missed out on them when they were in the shops the first time. Just the one little boat from the castle series. Love the Black Seas Baracuda ever since I first saw it, so I had to make an entry in large division even if I had no chance of winning, I had to try. So I opted to build a BSB and without anywhere near enough bricks came up with one in mirco-scale (so cute, I mean tough and piratey) Next I built as much background as I could in various scales. The water uses every single blue piece I have, I had to bust up two models (one which was a favourite on my bookcase) to get enough blue bricks. I even built some tiny pirates...hehe cute, I mean tough.

The Legend of Captain Blood Beard - Part III The self proclaimed king of pillage, Blood Beard had few peers, that lived. His swordsmanship was exceptional and as a captain he led by example. His motley crew became so complacent they just let him unleash his mayhem, often turning up late to simply loot and burn the village. Many thought his name was due to his ginger hair, but legend has it that when he pillaged a village he would not stop the slaughter until the blood was up to his beard. Hires version on Flicker Designer Notes: It's very hard to create a large MOC and capture the action in one 800x600 photo, but I'm very happy with the end result. There are lots of smaller details, some got lost, but all the major ones are visible. Special thanks go to my good friend and fellow lego builder Connor. It was his idea to link the background to the foreground with the 2nd canon ball shot. Thank you Classic-Pirates.com for the best competition. Pirates was not a theme I collected before and even if I don't win the BSB at least I have a microscale version. Hires microscale BSB on Flicker Lots of other photos on Flicker

Hold it....hold it.......FIRE!
Ice cream in the cannon I don't get it? Is that what made the trajectory so lame, is that the joke? Nice cannon Sir Nadroj (it could have used a puff of smoke?) but your sig skeleton freaks me out.

Buried Trash 'n' Treasure (Final)
I updated my 1st post entry so I moved the old versions down here. The pier in the 2nd draft looked a bit weak and overall the impact was minimal. Then I found the golden egg (or golden chest) in my collection. I had to make a much larger treasure room and it started looking good. I opted to replace the pier with a boat at the last minute (which I think looks much better). My friend complained about my beach design as he does love anything and everything in SNOT. I had an answer ready this time. The studs are minifig footprints. There is smooth sand near where the waves have washed in, but up the beach, the pirates have been legging it everywhere.

Colonic Canon Ball (Final)
I updated the first post to include my final image as my entry and below are the old versions.

Cruelty and Loyalty
Great MOC well done. I really don't have much advice except use more light when taking photo's. If you take photo's outside in the shade (not direct sunlight) they come out nice. The fighting sword monkeys, the submerged figs in water, the action, there's a lot here to like. Well played.

Pirate Invasion - Caribbean Port
Wow, you packed a pile into that space well done. I'm no expert but the base is cheeky big with the boat poking out front and back. I like the dungeon the best. Is that a technics plate constraining the skeleton?

Some very happy pirates...
The market was great, I liked it immediately. Having the hole in the roof meant the lighting came through nice in the photo's. But you do need a better camera. The whole premise of a happy pirate is wrong. Murdering brutal pirate yes, happy no.

Mini-Contest - Win LEGO! Hurry!
I deserve to win because I live in Australia where Lego shop @ home is just about the most expensive place on the planet. Oh and the magic word is Marlin.

*Finished* - The Pillaging of Neptune's Noggin Lagoon
Holy crap, looks fantastic so far, but what will you do with a BSB if you win? Your volume of bricks and design skills are so beyond mine I really can't comment on improvement. But what's with the grey skull/mask thingo I would think your port would stand a better chance of winning?

Port Invasion
Wow nice work. So glad you're staff. The first picture, the one the entry is judged on, crops the boat rather badly. There was also way to many pictures (up to 6)? But I can't fault the MOC, great work. So glad you're staff.

Attack on the Island of the Ancient tower
Whats wrong with having a fort? I liked the fort. The two tone wall was good but should probably fan out into a larger foundation at the base. The beach was great despite getting low on pieces for the side (we have all been there). And finally the boat had a lot of character. The fort and some characters do look a bit castle, so tweak those aspects and it's all good. Overall a great build, I like it a lot.

Massacre at Pirates Cove
I kinda liked the first photo. My suggestion would be to flood fill the skull with another light, so you get beams of light coming through the gaps (Eye's and Nose) onto the MOC. This is happening already to a minor extent. I agree with most of Zorro's comments. Skeleton's are deaths from the past. As for the faces, in my opinion, not every situtation do you need the high exagerated cartoon faces. There are so many uniqiue heads but few that are angry/scared. If they are the only heads everyone uses it makes the characters all look the same. Overall a fine effort, I like it.

Pirate's Treasure
Lol? <groan> The roof lines are definately out. Examine the grey/yellow awnings. Left awning lines up nice with the bulk of the scene including the water line But the right one is leaning to the right. I agree a 2 degree roation would make the sea line up nice and horizontal Anyway it's just my opinion it isn't law or anything.

Pirate's Treasure
Not too shabby. There is a lot here to like so why don't I mention what I don't like: - The white tower must have been built by Italian's it has quite a lean to the right. - Many photo's where you can't see any faces, I like to see fig faces. - The monkey has a banana, you don't see that everyday <sarcasm intended> That's a good find Zuloo.

Chinese Junk steering system
Phew for a minute there....... In this country, ones junk means something else. Anyhow, a nice MOC, the sails were tip-top. But I agree with Zuloo a consistent colour scene would be better.

Contest SMALL: Hard Choices!
Really great MOC, well done. Here's my 2 cents worth: - I find the face on the pirate a bit tame, he doesn't look interested at all. - I'm not a big fan of the waves (are they teeth?) - The pirate is holding the gun with a hook? That just isn't going to work, how does he pull the trigger? That's it, like I said great entry.

Buried Trash 'n' Treasure (Final)
Thank's for that constructive criticism, I should be able to finish the MOC now.
