4 Speed Differential gearbox
TechnicMati replied to Doc_Brown's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor me the idea is useless because it wastes resources (torque and speed) with motors that work against each other. Sorry, but nothing interesting for me plus it takes so much space.

Sheepo's Land Rover 110 review
TechnicMati replied to allanp's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI am amazed by the whole model. The look of the Land Rover is stunning. But I'm not convinced of the gearbox. I am generally not convinced of gearboxes that use drive rings and switches. My experience tells me that these kind of applications don't perform well, don't keep the gear if there is too much torque or speed. As far as I am concerned I only accept two kinds of gearboxes: Sariel's 2 heavy duty speed gearbox with the motor moving back and forth and a 2 speed gearbox where a shaft (axle) moves back and forth (12 and 20 teeth gears used). I rather praise efficiency and reliability of a gearbox than a bigger number of speeds.

Exclusive CO-Creation Model 41999
TechnicMati replied to Bonaparte's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou might be laughing but there had appeared an idea in my mind just before I read your post: to make an american muscle supercar using The Boss body on a supercar chassis with new rims (the ones with metallic stripes that are gonna be launched by TLG) and 42000 F1 tyres ;) MrNumbskull13 Right Now I am gathering money and I am buying everything this year. No decissions... This year it's too difficult for a lego technic fan to decide which set to possess and which to omit. I am buying everything.

Bent Technic Parts
TechnicMati replied to CisFran's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingfrancisalmario These damaged bricks make me suspicious that maybe they are from some Lego Technic knockoff's set (or Lego mixed with a knockoff ?). Are You sure that You bought pure Lego Technic? I suppose that Lego's bricks have such quality and strenght that if You tried to bent them, You would rather break them than bent them. But I might be wrong about that.

Exclusive CO-Creation Model 41999
TechnicMati replied to Bonaparte's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWell, well, well... I am very amazed by an appearance of the final version of The Boss Crawler. RM8 You were right. In the beginning I wasn't convinced that this creation should become a winner of the competition but in the end I have to admit that You and your BOSS are very well deserved winners of the whole lego technic challenge. Once again congratulations to You RM8 for the design and to TLG for a very nice "facelifting". I wasn't convinced to the blue colour in the beginning (when I heard rumours) but I was wrong. The dark blue colour looks astonishing plus the new wheels with these metallic stripes make The Boss an amazing american muscle crawler. Once again my sincere congrats to You RM8. A very well deserved win :) And I've changed my mind: I am buying this american muscle beauty :)

The BOSS Crawler. Technic challenge entry.
TechnicMati replied to rm8's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI would enjoy the orange because (apart from the Unimog) we still don't have some panels in orange plus one big orange set is not enough for me (comparing to other colors: black, red, yellow). I don't know why but I'm not convinced to the blue completely.

The BOSS Crawler. Technic challenge entry.
TechnicMati replied to rm8's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI suppose it's gonna be orange or some variants of orange and black. I hope for some orange parts, panels - these would be nice for my collection and for my offroader I'm just working on. I wonder if body changes that TLG with Rm8 have done are just cosmetic or they do really change a look and appearance of the Boss?

The Enforcer Recharged: CUUSOO Project
TechnicMati replied to crazy_1993's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis is a good point. It is good and useful as for a Lego Technic models designer to have technic bricks in reality and test various applications instead of just designing them in LDD computer programs, because dealing with technic means also doing mistakes and understanding the rights, rules and boundaries (also points of weakness) that Lego Technic bricks enforce. Crazy_1993 I'd rather get rid of the central differential and put knob wheels (90 degrees angle) to transfer the drive to front and rear shafts. Then make some multiply (increase rpms, decrease torque) as it is in 9398, then put the front and rear differentials (if you really want them, me personally would get rid of them completely) and then do the reduction on hubs finally transmitting the drive to wheels. In the end playability and functionality do the accessment. Once again good luck. The whole project is very impressive and You are very gifted. P.S. Crazy_1993 Leave your dark ages and possess some Technic sets to bring yourself to the bright side of the moon :) ROTFL

The Enforcer Recharged: CUUSOO Project
TechnicMati replied to crazy_1993's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingCrazy_1993 All your efforts make that You really deserve to have The Enforcer put as an official Lego Set. So good luck on cuusoo and gathering votes. Hope that you're gonna get the required amount of votes. The Enforcer really deserves that. The whole modified chassis (nice idea of two shock absorbers per wheel) and several mods to the body make The Enforcer even more impressive. Well done!

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWhen finally as an adult I decided to come back to Lego Technic I searched for functionailty (playability) - as I wanted it to give me the same or similar fun as ready-built rc models. Probably 8297 offroader was an inspiration for me to come back to Lego Technic since my childhood. It was 8297 with 2 rc buggy motors that I saw on youtube. I was pretty amazed how after all these years Lego finally lets anybody to built cars that look nice, are rc playable, are fast, have enough power - have functionality and playability. Right now I am working on MOC (trial truck) with servo motor for steering, 2 speed gearbox, offroader suspension. In the end I want this model to look much as a real car and function properly as well. So not only appearance is what I look for in technic sets but functionality (playabilty) is important as well. And coming back to 42009 topic and making all pneumatic's enthusiasts satisfied I see a great possibility for a nice and realistic mod: small pneumatic cylinders (or even big pneumatic cylinders?) plus compressor instead of mini LAs to control 42009's outriggers.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor me making 42009 by TLG is understandable as 8421 came long ago. New crane looks much better, has got much better proportions. Not to mention better functionality, playability due to more accurate boom lowering and rising mechanisms. Plus I don't have the old 8421 crane, probably I am not alone. Generally I am very satisfied with this year technic models. Hope to see some new pf elements next year: maybe small xs motor or part helping to control pneumatic cylinders? I am very interested what 42009 B model is going to be: harbour crane like in 8053 or crane truck with hds or anything else?

Lego Technic Clones
TechnicMati replied to imajor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI am not interested in the quality of these knockoffs. They are not as good as Lego. But that is not the point. The point is that the Chinese arrogantly copy Lego's bricks with sh.t quality and you can't even differ this crap from original Lego. This should be prohibited. For me the second hand market of Lego Technic has just finished. Only original, whole, new sets. It seems that chinese companies are above certain rules of a free market and are allowed to just copy someones ideas and not to respect someone's reserved rights to a unique product. This is sick. P.S. For me this thread is useful only in terms of being informed about what sets and bricks have already been copied and what (crappy sets, crappy parts) to watch out for.

Lego Technic 42009 Mobil Crane MK2 Replica by dokludi (unfinished)
TechnicMati replied to dokludi's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHaHa Dokludi your next challenge: build the flagship just from preliminary blurry pics of a front side of a box :) I'm speechless. Don't know how you do that. Amazing! Pure magic! Or the next challenge: scan TLG's minds in search of 2014 and 2015 flagship models :) ROTFL Once again: Unbelievable!

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWell, I would assume as D3K that lego technic sets try to imitate real machines. Lego is a toy (Ok for me it's more an art than a toy :) and the parts we are given don't let us implement 100 % realism to lego sets or MOCs. It is always a compromise. Whole point is to create an imitation of realism as big as possible including functionality and playability. You mentioned Lego Unimog. It is a very nice set. And I like pneumatics. But the Mog crane's functionality is just very limited (because of very poor accuracy) and then how this fact meets realism? Lego MOCs and sets are always about a compromise of realism but it's all about implementing this compromise wisely. And in lego 42009 case choosing LAs to lower and rise crane's boom is IMO a wise choice. Just for now I think we should appreciate LAs as well as Pneumatics pros. But they have cons as well. IMO the whole point is to know when and where to use LAs and Pneumatics.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYes, exactly the same scale. I have already in my mind my 8285 set with all new black panels, modified mudguards, compressor and mechanisms from the coming 42008 service truck. This renewed, modified 8285 tow truck is gonna rock :)

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI think you just estimate old studfull sets over modern studless sets - maybe because of childhood memories. In the old days there were no LAs so pneumatics were more popular, but in some lego technic applications pneumatics don't do their job - LAs are better (I still wait maybe lego will introduce some parts for pneumatics to move cylinders with much bigger accuracy in the future?). According to distribution gearboxes - old studfull gearboxes with a moving axle (shaft) take much space plus 24 teeth gear doesn't make it's job there (if you want it to be RC it's unacceptable). That's why nowadays gearboxes based on driving rings are more popular - they just do their job and take very little space, they are practical. You can always MODIFY your models to make it more similar to old technic sets in terms of mechanisms. All in all and in the end I have to disagree with you and tell that modern lego technic sets DO look to real life machinery for inspiration and they do a great job within studless building boundaries (which in fact IMO is much more challenging than the old times studfull building). I have to mention that I like we are gonna see some studfull parts in the coming 42009 liebherr and I have to say I am very impressed with the new mobile crane and service truck. I am just gonna have so many truck wheels after I buy 42009. Maybe lego should think about introducing sets without wheels for the future ROTFL :) - with a label "prepared for wheeling" like the new helicopter is prepared for being motorised ;) I am just gonna have tons of 62.4 x 20 S wheels :) Maybe I'll build a real eighteenwheeler with a lego architecture house to be transported on a huge trailer? Come on ice road and oversize truckers :)

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYes, I think 24 teeth gear should be next to be upgraded - should have smaller teeth at both sides to avoid cranking (or to make it possible to change a gear) in gearboxes while changing gears (gearboxes without driving rings - I mean lego gearboxes with a moving shaft that changes gears). 20 teeth gears do a great job there.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFrom the picture above it seems for me that mini LAs move outriggers of the mobile crane.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
TechnicMati replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf this is true this set is going to rule this year completely. This is what I like. A set with LAs and pneumatics where LAs are used for accuracy and pneumatic cylinders where strength is needed. This set is gonna rock !

Third Party Tires for Lego Technic Rims
TechnicMati replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingrm8 Nice comparison of tires. I wonder how Rock Crusher X/T 1.9 Tires - Xtreme Terrain (http://store.rc4wd.c...ires_p_691.html) would behave on the 9398 Rock Crawler or any other trial truck, crawler. These are the tires that make me interested in third party tires the most but I still haven't seen them on any Lego Technic MOC Crawler and I think they might suit Lego Technic Trial Trucks much better than the more famous here Ansmann's tires (in terms of an appearance, width, tread and probably crawling abilities).

FINAL 10 of 2012 Lego Technic Competition -- VOTE NOW
TechnicMati replied to DLuders's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingCongrats to rm8 for wining the competition but I have to say that for me it seems I'm not buying The Boss and saving my money for some more exciting TLG sets of 2013: 42009 crane, service truck, f1 car, new mindstorms, excavator? The Boss seems no different for me from the original 9398 (plus the parts and colour selection don't impress me very much). I think Lego should wonder about working out a better formula of such competitions for the future to avoid situations that people from one country, within one community vote on their fellow, countryman, so to avoid better promotion, marketing to be the decisive factor instead of model's global appreciation. Maybe it should have been like that people vote to qualify 3 models to the final where TLG specialists would have made their choice of the winner. Anyway I am looking forward to Crazy1993 instructions of his Enforcer to try and build this beauty, modify it a little and let it finally see the daylight and move. Aha and here I have a suggestion for TLG for the future: dark gray rims for the biggest Lego Technic wheels are highly appreciated :)

[REVIEW] 42000 Grand Prix Racer
TechnicMati replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI am looking forward to buying this set very much. I like the new parts and rare parts that come with this set like new hubs, links, tires, white panels, black rectangular panels, model's functions and the whole look. And B model seems to be interesting despite it might need few appearance mods of it's hood. I have to say that I like this new F1 car much more than old F1 cars technic sets. I didn't really like old panels of the silver champion and the other blue and white f1 car. So all in all I appreciate the new F1 car very much.

Mini Unimog
TechnicMati replied to dikkie klijn's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNice :) dikkie klijn You are building up a tension right now. Nice strategy as if a new lego technic set is coming and just for now you are leaving us with confidential blurry photos. :)

'You Design It, We Make It' entry: HIGHWAY ENFORCER
TechnicMati replied to crazy_1993's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI understand your idea about putting much weight as low as possible and this is what makes this model so cool and different from other entries. It still has a respectful ground clearance on both sides and increases passengers safety while using handbrake during powerslides and drifting :)

'You Design It, We Make It' entry: HIGHWAY ENFORCER
TechnicMati replied to crazy_1993's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingCrazy_1993 I still hope that you are able to win the competition but if this doesn't happen will you publish LDD file or the instructions to the public so that this masterpiece may see the sunlight? The Enforcer is such a nice, exciting and creative entry. As Meatman said it might be that Lego team would redesign the winning model (The Enforcer or The Boss) and propably I would change some elements in the Enforcer myself to make it little lighter (for example I would get rid off the side exhaust pipes or would redesign the front of the hood a little bit). I really love your model and already have some ideas how to mod, tweak this beauty a little bit. Your entry gives such a huge amount of possibilities for modders. Anyway Good Luck and congratulations for The Enforcer.
