Getting into Pirates
I actually already started building it and on bag 5. Already blowing my mind on how fun it is and how much detail is included. Should have left it for last because I have a feeling other sets will be much worse. I am thinking of adding a ghost from the Ghostly Hideout set I had since I was a kid into the Scary Pirate Island. Will fit great into the theme.

Now that brings memories. Loved the mishmash of parts as a kid.

Getting into Pirates
Ah, when color matches the quality. Thanks for the heads up, I will try to be more careful. Does Lego replace pieces in the sets bought elsewhere too? I am not an expert so I always thought it was only for the purchases from them. Yeah, Bricklink in this case didn't seem like a great option. Was able to find sealed Brick Bounty for $185 USD which was acceptable price for me.

Getting into Pirates
Eldorado Fortress definitely looks nice and I am planning to get one for sure. As for the ships, from a beginner perspective, Brick Bounty seems like it has nice parts to use for future builds. Personally, I don’t like the brick sails in the creator set. But that set does have a lot of good parts and I seen conversions using aftermarket sails. Also, I am thinking that getting discontinued sets at decent price would be a priority since new sets still have some time left before retiring.

Getting into Pirates
Resurrecting the thread so I guess it is about zombie pirates now . Anyways, so after looking around and seeing the prices, I ended up getting the Lion Knight's Castle 10305 since it made more financial sense for me. I got interested in pirates again this year and being in a better financial situation was able to get Barracuda Bay 21322 set. Just wow! Amazing set even after building something like the castle. I am eyeing Brick Bounty 70413 under $200 USD. Seems like a good set to pair with Barracuda Bay. Is it actually a good set or should I maybe look into something better for a bit more $?

Getting into Pirates
Thanks a lot for the useful info. I will do more research for specific parts and will keep an eye on the nice sets at good prices.

Getting into Pirates
Hey everyone, I wanted to get into Pirates, but is seems the ship has sailed, har har har. Apart from the current Creator set, other more or less reasonably priced options are Barracuda Bay (21322) and Brick Bounty (70413), which are discontinued. Anything else I should be looking out for that might have great parts for the theme?

[MOC] Dually 6x6 Pickup Truck
madjelly replied to madjelly's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYup. Going to be 19 studs. Inverting the wheels will make rear narrower than needed. The reason I am using hubs is beacause of the width. This way I can have solid structure to start with, instead of using liftarms to build it. Plus, in the long run if I ever want to convert it to offroader, I can always change out gears as necessary.

[MOC] Dually 6x6 Pickup Truck
madjelly replied to madjelly's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI believe it looks wider than the actual truck because of all the pieces between the wheels. Actual truck is roughly 2.4m wide. I calculated the scale of lego wheel compared to actual one, and got 1:12.5. Used the scale and width of actual truck in Sariel's converter and got width measurements of 24 studs and 19.2cm. I think once the whole thing is built, it will look fine.

[MOC] Dually 6x6 Pickup Truck
madjelly replied to madjelly's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAfter trying to mount drive train, I ran into several geometry issues and clearances between shocks and tie rods. Ended up rebuilding most of it. Used perpendicular axle/pin pieces on the axles going to differenatials. That elimited some wobble and also provided support for axles that hold shocks. Connected new drivetrain to a frame and tested geometry. Whole thing feels solid and robust. Thanks for noticing that. While rebuilding, I strenthtened the locations of the gears to remove wobble and possible slippage. Was actually thinking about 5x7 frame. Unfortunately, that frame would eliminate spaces I needed to install shocks. I might rebuild using those frames if the rear is too unstable.
