Now I understand you, and I totally agree with you about the Lucas bashers, I find it funny too that a Star Wars fan would show so much hate for the Star Wars creator, using strong words like “you ruined my childhood” and such, especially that he released the version that was very close to the theatrical release for all fans to enjoy already on laserdisc and DVD, but some fanboys are quiet ungrateful. I was just trying to explain that I’m not one of those guys, and that some of us might have other reasons to ask for a “Pre Special Editions” version of the OT on bluray. But you’re right, I should have used the term PSE instead of “unaltered”. You know what’s funny, new fact I learnt from the link you provided which is that Lucas actually altered the original theatrical release WHILE it was showing in theaters back in 1977. I try to hide the DVDs I own fearing that he might pull them back and alter them. (FYI: while you were watching ROTJ in theater in 1983 I was still learning how to walk)
  2. Wow, this is an excellent Oliphant, the proportions are right and the details are amazing. Fantastic job, I hope it gains lots of support. Perhaps if you added some more interesting minifigs it will make it even more attractive as a set, like Eowyn in battle armor.

I meant the differences between the theatrical edition and the laserdisc edition; can you mention a difference that makes you think it’s funny when people can’t differentiate between them? All the alterations in this list you provided, those before the 1997 Special Edition, are so insignificant that even those who saw the movie in theater back in 1977 would never notice them. The laser disc edition, the one without A New Hope in opening crawl, is almost exactly the theatrical release, aside from some additional beeps and whistles and very minor editing, it still has the original visual effects. It’s the closest thing to the original without the heavy alterations done later in the 1997 edition, the one that makes the movie look very different, not because of those insignificant alterations in the list you provided which is all about different sounds for blasters and stuff, but by completely changing scenes and replacing major special effects… all versions with minor tweaks prior to the heavily altered 1997 edition are what people generally refer to as “unaltered edition” to answer your question. It’s also fair to mention that the people who worked on the academy award winning special effects of the original version, pre 1997 heavy alterations, deserves recognition and should be able to see their work immortalized in a better quality medium, don’t you think? Not to mention the actors who got completely replaced. I didn’t see the originals in theater in 1977, and it would be hard for me to remember all the differences between the VHS versions I saw as a child and the 1997 editions I saw later in theaters, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the original versions I saw much later on laserdisc. It’s not always about fanboys whining about things they don’t know, or childishly asking for things merely for their nostalgic value, nor is it about who did or didn’t see the movies in theater back in 1977, it’s about cinema history that deserves recognition. And I don’t think it’s funny at all. And I stand corrected about the confirmation of the release, amongst all the Episode VII news things got mixed up for me, but why would it be very difficult for Disney to come up with some deal with Fox to release A New Hope? People who work at Disney are not business school fresh graduates. And people at Fox know there is no better way to milk that property than to ride on the Disney wave.

Perhaps you can enlighten us on those alterations from theatrical release to the old VHS and old laser disc versions that we, the funny guys who want to see the version they grew up with, want to see in good quality in a medium that doesn't deteriorate so much with use like VHS tapes?
  5. Khaled Yousef replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Now that’s the spirit, I totally agree and I always remind myself of this point of view whenever things gets too complicated. Robianco: so the unaltered trilogy on the laser discs are different from the ones that came with the 6 DVD pack? I have the old laser discs, but if the DVD ones are better then I’ll search for them indeed, until the bluray ones are actually released. I’d also like to see a VHS rip, you know, in TV aspect ratio, won’t be the best quality but would definitely be very nostalgic.
  6. Yeah, we need to see that, and you guys got me very curious about the possibility that Qui-gon might have a Tatooine poncho. I hope we get clear pictures soon.
  7. Khaled Yousef replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Wow, the VHS version will always be the “original” version for me since I never saw the OT in theater, awesome find man. I think the bluray unaltered OT was confirmed, I knew about it on starwars.com if I remember correctly.

And we love them for that, because we love our toys so much, don’t we? That’s what brought us all here in the first place. I just don’t like it when they do that to my Shenanigans original vision, that part of EU is sacred to many fans, but I’m sure someday those real fans would look for the non-GallardoLU “despecialized” version. Now Ultron, is that a confirmed news about the trailer? I would think it’s still too early for that… perhaps it would be another short teaser trailer that shows a little bit more details, I wouldn’t want anything spoilery.
  9. Khaled Yousef replied to iannn29's post in a topic in LEGO Star Wars
That’s correct. And you know, if a minifig is almost 3 studs wide it would be in real life a 1 meter wide person, even wider than the incredibly fat humans from WALL-E… how can anything be normally scaled to that freak?
  10. Khaled Yousef replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Hey, don't retcon my Original Shenanigans Wars with your kids friendly toy selling CG infested version
  11. Khaled Yousef replied to iannn29's post in a topic in LEGO Star Wars
Oops, my mistake, I meant the 80 studs to be the average correct length in my opinion. The system scale is around 60 studs which makes it too small and the UCS Falcon is 104 studs long indeed, I stand corrected, but that makes it larger than it should be if it were to be considered minifig scale, you have to take into consideration the “tubbiness” of the LEGO minifig, all measurements would be different then to make the ship look right next to a minifig, the minifigs looks like dwarfs next to the UCS Falcon… but I agree it’s close, with some exaggerated features. And ScottishDave, nice work indeed, but your work actually shows how the UCS Falcon would have too much space inside not the other way around, like the overly long corridor you made, which looks awesome but still a lot longer than it should, and minifigs can play football in that vast engine room. Scale is a very difficult thing to determine anyway with minifigs since they are completely out of normal proportions.

I agree, nothing will ever change the fact that all the artwork related to Star Wars, be it OT, PT, CW or EU will always be there, if the current brand owner decided he doesn’t care about them it doesn’t delete them from existence. I still enjoy watching the original Clone Wars cartoon very much even though it was rtconed by the newer The Clone Wars animated series, if Filoni decided he wanted to make his own version of Clone Wars then why should that make me angry at Lucasfilm? I can still watch the one I prefer. The EU is indeed a big heap of inconsistent wild imagination, it’s made by hundreds if not thousands of fans, each has his own vision and opinion on what Star Wars should be, so how can this mess of a storyline written by many individuals be considered canon in any way? If I wrote a story about Darth Kiwi the ultimate villain of the Shenanigans Wars that happened 12000000 BBY, does this obligates all other SW fans to consider it canon? Oh, and Greedo shot first; everyone knows that.
  13. Did you recite all those names from your memory Venkefedo? That’s just impressive EU fandom. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait till forever for any of those dudes to be made an exclusive fig. And I agree with you Spiderlord; Thrawn would be a safety hazard release. I know I won’t hesitate to hurt someone to get one for myself.
  14. Khaled Yousef replied to iannn29's post in a topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don’t think the UCS Millenium Falcon is accurately scaled to minifigs; it has minifigs but it’s still larger than it should be. Just look at the landing gear for instance, in ESB Han has to lean over to get to Chewie while he was welding it, the ones in the LEGO set towers over minifigs. The UCS ship is 80 something studs long, it should go down to around 60 to be accurately scaled to minifigs I think. UCS sets are built to look accurate regardless of scale, we use the term “UCS-scale” inaccurately all the time since there is no such thing, UCS sets can vary greatly in scale, like the MF compared to the X-wing compared to the SSD, and minifigs are added just for fun and to add value to the set.
  15. Yularen is OK, but I keep hoping to get a chrome gold 3PO like TC-4 with new print but I keep getting disappointed every year.
  16. LOL, that’s clever. I like the look on his fellow Stormtroopers.
  17. I agree Tariq; new rebel helmet prints are always welcome, Wes Janson is on top of the list for me, we already have Klivian’s helmet.
  18. I don’t think Binks would get any love in any alternate universe. I also don’t think many OT fans really like the Ewoks in the first place. The OT has a wider fan base but that doesn’t mean they all love every bit of those movies. Some moments in the OT evokes giant face-palm just as much as those in the PT, Ewoks being on top of that list for most people side by side to the special edition Sy Snootles song.
  19. Khaled Yousef replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Nothing is out of the window, if you’re talking about the EU it’s all still there for you to enjoy if you wanted to. Who cares what the owner company thinks is canon or not anyway? It’s all an imaginary universe, and you’re free to imagine what you want.
  20. Logical guesses, but we already have all these ones, good versions of them too that needs no update, so if the set came out like that it would be very boring. However I don’t see what else they could add to this lineup… some ground staff perhaps, what’s his name Deck Officer or something.
  21. You can’t compare Eurobricks to Flickr AND Mocpages as well because they’re both platforms to multiple small communities since they’re both places where you can upload and store your photos with almost no limitations to your actions from day one you join, unlike here where you just link to some other place and have to add effort to speak to the community here and make meaningful participation to be accepted, which makes this place a bit more personal and private. Eurobricks is cleaner than those places because it’s a little more complicated to advertise yourself here, it takes effort, time and a lot of communication and sharing before you can do anything, so trolls and parasites look for other easier places, which is a very good thing. Mods can’t teach people manners, it’s not their fault that people are sick, and it’s not their job to fix them. However, since they can be so active and pronounced when they correct people who go ranting off-topic I don’t see why they can’t do the same about publicly correcting those who cross the line with other members, especially those who report the line crossing and sit around waiting for action. And since new members join this community everyday then public correction would help keeping them in check much more effectively than PMs or behind the scene warnings. A community functions better if the presence of law enforcement is pronounced; it comforts the law abiding ones and scares away those who wish to break the law, that’s why police cars have sirens.
  22. Family fun is hilarious dr_spock, and very well built as usual, I like how Anakin has his sith face on and little Luke is wearing a rebels helmet. I agree with ToaSalvos on one thing, Ewoks needs to take some of the heat too, if the OT had any Binks in it it’s the Ewoks, and they deserve to get some pain.
  23. Khaled Yousef replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
Can you explain why? I see them as the ones who made it possible for us to see more Star Wars movies in theater, what else could we possibly wish for? I think that the Rebels cartoon is stupid, but that’s because it’s supposed to be a kids show anyway so it had to be superficial for kids to comprehend. I don’t think the movies would follow the same trend; the movies are going to be made by fans for fans, financed by a company that aims to make the most out of the franchise… looks like a win-win situation to me.
  24. Awesome minifigs Artisan. Madame Cheng in particular is so creepy with those legs I’m sure she’s gonna give me terrible nightmares tonight.
  25. You missed my point dr_spock, what about everyone else who can still see the insults there with nothing obvious done about it? Wasn’t that what bothered the OP in the first place? I’m not talking about my own problem here, I just mentioned it as a relevant example I’ve experienced. My point is that leaving such things after being reported with no public correction just makes the thread looks awful for everyone else, like this thing can happen to anyone who participates in it and he just have to live with it.
