Balls?!
Hi there. I'm in need of a large quantity of Lego balls. First of all let me just say, - I hate fake Lego, I won't buy it, I'd sooner strip naked in the street than have any near my house - but for the love of god, 2 to 4 dollars/gbp for 1 ball? I hope no one will be offended if I offer to stick that idea somewhere very uncomfortable! So, I'm going to ask the unforgivable: What other balls do people use that are the same size and wont push a small country into abject poverty? Many thanks.

42039 - 24 Hour Race Car - Discussion Topic
Tclancey replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI can go and buy motors and servos without a problem, where I'm going to get stuck is physically connecting 3rd party bits to the Lego.

42039 - 24 Hour Race Car - Discussion Topic
Tclancey replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWell, I don't want to go completely mad, I have seen YouTubers running cars at pretty fast speeds. The axles are surprisingly strong, I'd be more worried about wearing out the gears. Yes, I have come to the conclusion that the Lego systems (while fantastic for what they are) are not going to do what I need. I have contacted a few RC companies here in the UK but so far I haven't had any useful replies. Do you have any suggestions to get me started down the RC route? Thanks.

42039 - 24 Hour Race Car - Discussion Topic
Tclancey replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi folks. I'm hoping someone out there in the wild chunky Lego world can help point me in the right direction for motors and remote systems. I've been messing about with Technic for more years than I care to mention and I figure it's about time I got into some serious modding. My first experiment is the 42039 Le Mans Racer. I have so far rebuilt it with servo steering and 2xXL motors for propulsion. I can gear the XL motors 36/12 and get movement, but it ain't fast! I have tried adding another gear ratio of 36/12 which I think would give me the speed I want, but there's too much torque and it bugs out the motors. (Or I believe the sBrick shuts down the motors) So, can anyone recommend a simple motor/battery/remote combination to get me started? I've decided I'll forget the sBrick for this kind of thing so don't worry about that. Thanks folks.

Serious piracy problem and its consequences
You have my full support on this. I don't care how much money you have or how popular you are, or even if you're a nice person, if you're taking the time to document things in a way that really helps other people you have my respect. And because of that respect I would never copy books, films or youtubes.

Place to buy technic parts.
Hi folks. Where have people found the best prices for ordering individual parts, either in small or bulk quantities? I used to trawl through Ebay for bargain bags, but I've accumulated rather a lot of bits I'll never use. The last place I used was Toypro which had pretty much everything I needed, but I did think the prices for some parts was a little high. I'd be grateful for any ideas. Thanks.

Tank suspension
Tclancey replied to Tclancey's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks for the responses folks, the spring system is the one to go for, I have a huge bag of the large shocks so I might as well use them for something! When I come up with a working system I'll post some pics. :o)

Tank suspension
Hi folks. I'm sure this has been covered many times, so rather than lengthy explanations please point me at other posts or resources. I need to build a reasonable sized tank track and base, I'm not interested in a realistic model, this will be to carry a camera outside, so smooth suspension is more important than form. I've searched YouTube, and while there are some good looking examples there are very few helpful instructions, to carry weight, maintain strength etc. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Pneumatic pressure testing.
Hi folks. I'm a new member to please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place... Just wondering if anyone has any advice on pressure testing the lego pneumatic systems. I'm building up some old models, I know I need to replace bits, but want to know which bits without going through hours of swapping them around. Also, what's the best advice for old pneumatic rams that are a bit 'lumpy', is there a safe way of lubricating internal seals? I've thought of a hyperdermic and thin motor oil, but don't want to use anything that's going to damage the plastic or o-rings. Any help gratefully received.
