  1. I was looking into the sand green blocks briefly, and I realized that I could split the 1x8 blocks into 2 1x4's and it would be a lot cheaper. So, maybe I'd be able to get sand green after all. I'll just see when I get into it. I'm actually going to Bricklink one of the early creator houses first because I don't need as many pieces. So, I'll see how that goes! As for the modulars - I'm currently building Pet Shop and it's great. Well, actually, at this very moment, my 4-year-old is building Pet Shop, and I'm hanging out in our family room with my 10-month-old. Ummm.... The modulars are supposed to be for me! Oh well, she loves it, and it's occupying her :)

I'd rather not have a Police station, but a school, a library or a restaurant would be fun!
  3. I'll probably do the dump and sort tactic at some point, but I just wanted to get an idea of the number of different parts and different colors I had first. That way, I can start to determine what types of storage containers I want to purchase. I'm sure it will be a work in progress for a while, I just wanted to see if I could get an idea of what I had. The Basebrick recommendation was perfect for what I needed. All I needed to do was enter the sets I had, and then I could click on a link to see the combined inventory. Thanks everyone!
  4. I received Pet Shop yesterday, and Fire Brigade is coming today. I also have a Grand Emporium that I got at a great price. Haven't yet pulled the trigger on Town Hall, and I'm waiting on Palace Cinema. I am very interested in brinklinking GG. But, I am not a purist, so I will be substituting expensive parts. I want to try to build it as cheaply as possible while keeping some aesthetic, like only having the front sand green, and have the sides and back be a less expensive color. But, I won't be tackling that project until after I build my modular sets and after I've done my organization project with my Creator house sets (because I will likely borrow some pieces from those sets).
  5. Excellent, thanks! This is exactly what I want. I knew someone here would be able to help!
  6. Hi all - I'm going to embark on a storage/organizational project where I combine all my Creator house sets into one storage solution. Before I start buying storage containers, I'd like to see an inventory of all my pieces. Basically, what I'd like to do is find a website where I can enter my 8 sets, and be able to print a list of all the pieces I have. Several of my sets have white bricks, and I'd like to see combined how many white pieces I have so that I know how many boxes, etc. to get. Does that make sense? I know I could look at the parts lists of each set separately, but I'm wondering if I can find a way to combine the sets' parts list, so that, for example, I know how many 1x2 white bricks I have (from all my sets). Thanks for any help!
  7. Well, I have a Fire Brigade and Pet Shop on the way! Can't wait to start building!
  8. Thanks for sharing your experiences! That's a good suggestion about making substitutions, particularly on parts that don't show/matter. But, I need to build a set first before I get into bricklinking this stuff. Looking at the Pet Shop for my first modular!
  9. I think I might get the Pet Shop. I know my daughter would love that one. Speaking of dropping one - we built Seaside house the other day, and somehow or another, it dropped right off the end of the dining room table. But, fortunately, it's Lego and was easily rebuilt. No damage :) In fact, it's one of the main reasons I love Lego - they are so sturdy!!
  10. I have thought about bricklinking a green grocer - I'm wondering what that might cost? I will consider it, for sure. I totally get that, and I don't even have any yet! I'll look into the VIP account. Although, I know I'll have to pay sales tax on lego.com, whereas on Amazon, I don't currently have to pay sales tax. Thanks everyone! It sounds like I'll be able to spread out my purchases. If I can stand to wait :)
  11. Hi everyone! New to the forums here. I started getting back into Legos about 3 years ago when I got the Apple Tree House as a Christmas gift. I loved Legos as a kid and made many creations. I had a few little sets, like the camper, the emergency treatment center, and a small house kit. Anyway, long story short, I loved the Apple Tree House and since then I have been collecting the Creator houses. I have all but the original Town House and the first Family Home. They are great for a quick build with my daughter, and then she plays with them for days. I came across the modular buildings one day online, and of course, I now want to collect those! But, since they are pricey, I think I will need to space out my purchases. Also, I fully expect never to obtain Green Grocer or Cafe Corner, because I'm just not willing to spend that much money. But, I would love to collect the ones currently available. It seems that Fire Brigade would be the one to get now since it is the oldest and could retire soon. On to my actual question (sorry for the long post!): are the prices on Amazon (and the Lego store) generally what these sets cost? It looks like 3 are $149 and Town Hall is usually $199 (was on sale on Amazon for $177 for a few days). I keep a watch on ebay too, and I notice that there are so many listings for these sets, both used and new, that are way above those prices. I keep wondering why would anyone pay that much when you can get them cheaper on Amazon? Which made me wonder if it's a total fluke that they are all priced at $149 on Amazon right now, and I'm going to kick myself later when the prices go up..... Anyway, sorry, I hope I explained my concerns well enough. Basically, I don't want to miss out on decent pricing (I've seen how quickly they can increase in price once they are no longer readily available), but I know I can't buy them all right now...
  12. I've been thinking about this a lot as I've been really getting into Legos again. I have several creator houses that I build with my 4-year-old daughter. We've been building together since she was about 2.5. She was never big on putting things in her mouth and has a extreme respect for "Mommy's Legos". She can now do lots of the building by herself. I fetch pieces, and she puts them on with my help as necessary. It's not as much fun for me and it's very time-consuming, but I know it's great for her fine motor skills. Once we finish building, she plays with the mini figs in the house for days. She builds little accessories and furniture in her playing, and then eventually after several days, I put the set away. Then a few days/weeks later we get out a different one. Repeat ad nauseum. She has her own Legos too (both duplo and regular), and we play with those lots too. I'd like to get a modular building, but I'm not sure how that will be for playing. I don't want to have a set for display purposes only. My main purpose for having the Legos is to have something that we can play with together that interests me as well as her. I also have a baby, and I know as gets older the rules will not be as liberal for him. I don't think he will be as gentle with them as my daughter is. We'll see though!
  13. Thanks, everyone! Looking forward to joining in!
  14. Hi all! I loved Legos as a kid and have recently gotten back into them (I won't say how old I am!). I started by getting Apple Tree House and have gotten several more Creator houses since then. I build them with my 4-year-old daughter and then she plays with them. I have quite the house collection - do others on here collect creator houses? I couldn't find a forum, but I'm sure I just haven't looked in the right place yet. I've also been lusting after the modular buildings. They are on the expensive side for me, but they just seem so cool! I'm sure I'll get one soon!
