[TC26] Arctic Transport Base
Seasider replied to Alex Ilea's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThat’s an impressive model, and great how the 2 vehicles link. But a shame it’s not very smooth in the large vehicle, it kind of makes the smaller model the main model. I think to fit the theme better a splash of red and yellow would really lift this model further. Otherwise very impressive

42166 NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI’ve switched off from Sariels reviews. I find him too negative about sets and in my opinion doesn’t give a balanced view or a view that considers the main customer (not the vast majority of us). I far prefer RacingBrick ( @kbalage ) or Jang these days. These pull back models have a place, my nephew loves all the monster truck ones.

[TC26] Snow Patrol
Seasider replied to Thirdwigg's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGlad you’re doing an entry. The fact I had a figure and some skis led to my colour choices too. Looking forward to how this turns out. Don’t forget a splash of red and yellow

[TC26] Arctic Monowheel
Seasider replied to Tobi Wankenobi's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGlad someone else has gone unusual in terms of method of movement too. I think the biggest challenge will be keeping your central bit level as it drives as you’re normally reliant of the weight counteracting the drive of the wheel. Good Luck

[TC26] Technic Arctic Vehicle Contest - Discussion Topic
Seasider replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo how is everyone getting along with their builds? I’m assuming/hoping that people are just being secretive (never understood this) about their builds and going to release a “WIP” thread at the last minute.

[TC26] Arctic First Responder
Seasider replied to MangaNOID's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLooks like a good start… not sure if a porpoise would like being towed on purpose though. Would suggest a sling/cradle for Porpoise carrying, perhaps on a crane arm of a arm like a skip lorry

REVIEW - 42168 John Deere 9700 Forage Harvester
Seasider replied to M_longer's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNice review there. I think the biggest shame is the scale difference to the tractor. The tyres and lack of grilles wouldn’t be a concern to a kid, as they just wouldn’t be aware.

[TC26] Arctic Walker
Seasider replied to Seasider's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI thought about adding discs as feet but I think it’ll spoil the look. Perhaps it’s just for exploring the frozen ice shelves and not fresh snow areas

[MOC] 42154 Alternative- One seat sports car
Seasider replied to damjan97PL's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNot too sure about the headlights (but then they’re from the original model), but your overall design and technic on this is great. Definitely a track day beast

[TC26] Arctic Walker
Seasider replied to Seasider's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo I’m pretty much done. thanks to @msk6003 I built this … I added some bits to mean it can only moved the switch in one direction to stop me flicking the switch too far meaning the lights stay on. Then I worked on mounting this and the tailgate mechanism. But the light mech was too long for the space I had left so as you’ll notice the IR Receivers have moved forward in the vehicle to free up some space. This meant taking the whole thing apart to move the main drive motors 1 leg forward. Thankfully I build this in a modular fashion so it was easy to take apart and update. And now it’s all back together and resting on a “work stand” I also made to help with assembly. Just a few System pieces left to tidy a couple of areas and that’s it. I’ve also been working on a Stud.io file to go with this, as I try to do with all my builds. But that’s missing the legs at the moment so no pictures at the moment from that. Controller is quite easy … Yellow Left = Left Legs Black = Tailgate Red = Lights Yellow Right = Right Legs Proper pics and video to come once I’ve added the system bits. I’ll have to work out where to take them, we don’t get snow around Christmas here so I think it’ll indoor shots.

[TC26] Expedition Camper on Tracks'n'Wheels
Seasider replied to pow's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI’d say build to whatever scale you want. A small neat model with lots of functions can be way more impressive than a large model with lots of space for functions

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI can’t wait for the day I have to decide do I swoosh my Ornithopter or my VTOL … and I’m not joking. Im a big space fan in general (not just Lego) so to get such an influx of space stuff is great for me. I also like that these are all original models and not licenced sets. Sets in my pre-dark ages weren’t licenced so I’m glad for this. Good to see some creativity

42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHaving just watched @kbalage’s YouTube video I can just picture TLG employees swooshing this VTOL and the Dune Ornithopter around the design office together. Genuinely impressed with the size of this, didn’t picture it as big as it is

[TC26] Icebreaker
Seasider replied to JoKo's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI think going multi-hull or pontoons would be strange for an icebreaker. I agree with others you need to bring down the centre of gravity on your model, it looks very vertical. thanks for the link about the propulsion method, very interesting, I can understand why in scenarios when you need ultimate manoeuvreability it works well. All the tugs I’ve see in use have been traditional props.

[TC26] Arctic…Mobile Rescue Base?
Seasider replied to MangaNOID's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWith the wheel size to body ratio it reminds me a little of the Antarctic Snow Cruiser.

[TC26] Arctic Walker
Seasider replied to Seasider's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo I’ve been having some very good build time on this and it’s almost complete. First of all I played with the legs and their sequence. My model up to this point had legs 1&3 at 180 degrees on the large gear to legs 2&4. But as @1gor pointed out it rocked back and forth a lot. I then tried each leg using the drive gear at 90deg to the next which turned out to be even worse. It turned out the answer had been staring me in the face the whole time (as the model I used as inspiration from YouTube uses the pairings of inside and outside, so 1&4 and 2&3 with 180deg difference on the drive gear. It’s much smoother. So what does the model look like … I’ve got a cockpit I’m happy with … Most of the electrics worked out … And even done some finishing touches to borrow from the old Arctic theme (because by pure chance I bought an old technic set from a market and it actually had 3 inside the box, one being 8620 which gave me the figure and skis!) But still some things to do … 1. Mount the linear actuator for the rear door. I’ve got the position sorted, just not mounted it yet. 2. Shorted the legs so they don’t stick above the joint. If you look you’ll see the leg design has changed where I’ve made the cranked liftarms to be the middle section, not the final section. This gave me better ground clearance but all the final beams are 2 studs too long at present. 3. Await a Bricklink order to correct some parts currently in the wrong colour. 4. Create some classic Arctic Technic stickers. But a question … it there any way to make lights switch on/off using PF without just holding the switch in place? Enjoy

[TC26] Icebreaker
Seasider replied to JoKo's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingInteresting boat, never seen that type of propulsion before. Remember this is a technic competition so I’d avoid making a ship superstructure from too many System parts

[HELP] Generic Building Help Topic
Seasider replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingA quick and easy one clutch gear (old style) if I want to have a motor connected to a shaft that may lock and I want to put a clutch gear in between to prevent motor damage should I put it motor side or output side of the 2 gears ?

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust seen @kbalage’s video. I didn’t realise the Space theme also fed across to DUPLO. So the whole family can be involved.

42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAnd the Friends set too has the same Orange connector so you could connect Technic to City to Friends so all the family could build together

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling@Jim have you seen 42605 the Mars Space Base and Rocket. It’s got the classic space logo and looks coherent with the City Space stuff … but no Friends sets for me.

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
Seasider replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI’m getting both the city and technic space themed sets, but then I love anything space related (but not the Friends stuff) 2024 is going to be expensive

[TC26] Arctic Walker
Seasider replied to Seasider's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo this is how I held the large gear in place … With both the large gear and worm gear held between 2 frames. This meant the position the legs are mounted on the body moved 2 studs up relative to the gears. So I gave it a “smooth” belly to remove some visual weight and get the best ground clearance I could. And it works without any gear cracking You don’t realise how relieved I was that this worked. So time to do some bodywork which will be quite simple on this … Sorry for the poor lighting on this. Now I need to work out what the nose/cockpit looks like
