  1. I wanted to vote, but it simply seemed like way too much effort to visit multiple threads, post multiple times, and sort through the rules. It was not only too complicated, it was absurdly too complicated. I was expecting a link to a single page where the entries were summarized (maybe with a "see more" link for each to the individual entry thread). Basically after a moment of attempting to vote I was like "I don't have time for this" and closed the tab and moved on to something else. If you want to see what I mean, I suggest listing the amount of steps it would take to visit every entry and every voting thread in every category and I speculate you'd have over 100 required actions listed.
  2. It's beautiful. I'm so impressed!! So...what's the inside look like?

I have two things: - A print of the rules - Permission from Steve Jackson to improve upon them I can make a new ESPG site if needed.

    Ooh! I love the rifle!
  5. Hey fellow AFOLs, I normally stick to the Pirate forum but I found a good deal on Toywiz I figured the military builders would like to hear about: Toywiz is selling the Toy Story LEGO jeep on sale for $2.99 here: http://www.toywiz.com/legotoystorygreenjeep.html It's not a whole set, just the Jeep. So if you want to enlarge your motor pool without shrinking your bank account too much this looks like a good option. Hope you found this useful, thanks.
  6. This is beautiful! I love it! Very playable and it looks great. Isn't this the first ship-rigged (3 masted) Lego Pirates ship ever, too? I thought I was all done with getting large ships but I will be buying this...and I think I'll be Brickbeard's Bounty too now.
  7. Pssst...one of your flag bearers has an upside down flag. :P

This is OUTSTANDING! I have wanted to make something like this for the longest time but I haven't been able to get far. Your MOC is inspiring and really well done. Great job!

I would have the flags flying the opposite direction...if the wind is in your sails, your flags will fly forward, not aft.

The reality of Lego Pirates, however, is that the vast majority of ships built are too small to even rate in anything but the lowest class under the old cannon-based class system. The class system from Evil Stevie's Pirate Game is much more applicable for our needs. Here's how it works: Class 1 - Small brick-built hulls like the small ship in the 6277 Imperial Trading Post Class 2 - Large brick-built hull or narrow (12-wide) with no center sections Class 3 - Narrow hull with 1 center section or wide (16 stud) hull with no center sections Class 4 - Narrow hull with 2 center sections or wide hull with 1 center section (Caribbean Clipper) Class 5 - Narrow hull with 3 center sections Class 6 - Wide hull with 2 center sections (Red Beard Runner, Brickbeard's Bounty) Class 7 - Wide hull with 3 center sections (Black Seas Barracuda, Skull's Eye Schooner) Class 8 - Wide hull with 4 center sections

Not all of us are willing to deface our minifigs, Wellington.
  12. I would definitely NOT want to see: - Any new type of monkey or any non-natural creature (give us cool minifigs, not useless animals) - Zombie pirates or ghosts (the less supernatural the better) - Minifigs vs Monster sets like the Vikings (A wonderful key feature of the Pirates theme is the core fig vs fig dynamic between pirates and Imperials).

CREW: Class x 6 or 7. Your ship appears to be a class 7 (three hull middle sections) so that's 42 to 49. MINIMUM CREW: - 7 to manage the sails (equal to the ship's class) - 2 per cannon - 1 captain
  14. I'd like to see: - Mid-size narrow-hull ship for Imperials (blue torso version) like 6271 $49.99 - Modular coastal town with tavern. Think something like Sail n Fly Marina crossed with Medieval Market $99.99 - A small merchant ship like the one in 6277 - $9.99 to $14.99 - Jungle Island - something like Enchanted Island, with traps, natives, caves (could re-use Indiana Jones temple guards

While I like the idea of variety, I would much prefer more actual pirate ships, ports, and scenario islands than a new imperial armada faction. I agree that Imperial ships should feature a blue version of the new (red) Imperial Soldiers.
  16. I would love to see figs with this blue version of the new Imperial Soldier torso. I really like the red one -- the design of the torso doesn't need to be changed.
  17. For Bluecoats and redcoats, I go by the Lego version - the Imperial Soldiers (blue and new red) and the Imperial Guard are just different uniforms of the same anti-pirate faction. They're just "Imperials," not French or British. I do, however, use the Imperial Armada guys as a Spanish themed opposing faction since they're so different. It would be interesting for the person at Lego who was responsible for the blue to red color change to explain the logic behind it.

One of my drunken pirate minifigs has just pointed out an important feature: There are at least two barrels of beer(?) aboard! Already you're ahead of the game in the crew morale department! The ship is very spacious on the deck. My ships are never so roomy, they're packed with masts and guns until there's barely room for the figs! There's something to be said for the cargo space you'll have.
  19. My Imperial Soldiers (blue coats only) use dark gray rifles and revolvers (from the Western theme) but my pirates and redcoat Imperial Guards and Imperial Soldiers (new red coats) use muskets. I have recently started equipping the new red Imperial Soldiers with bayonets using the double U clips and (unmodified) Damien Blades from Brickarms. For variety's sake, I also have one of my pirate crews machetes in place of swords. There's also a couple pirates with daggers and the occasional short sword. A couple bluecoat admirals have katanas for the range/intimidation factor although the normal cutlass remains king. Some of my sailors also carry axes for cutting lines in battle (freeing ships from being tied together) - in Evil Stevie's Pirate Game, an axe is an automatic success at line cutting.
  20. I estimate about 50-60.

All Lego literature (including the set names themselves) from the 2009 series refers to the new redcoats as Imperial Soldiers, and never as Imperial Guards. From the flag thing, it's obvious that the (blue) soldiers, guards, and new red soldiers are all the same faction, just evolving over time.
