[TC6] DT-54 Soviet Bulldozer
falconluan replied to falconluan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHere is some update: Right now the tractor itself is complete The door was designed to be slide-open in the prototype, however, with two receivers added into the cabin, there is no room for the tracks... So, it really needs a SBrick! The M motor is obviously for the ripper, still has to figure that out Right now is working on the blade, below pictures are WIP of course. Thanks for watching and advises are always welcome

[TC6] DT-54 Soviet Bulldozer
falconluan replied to falconluan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIt maybe look like this I think. Unlike using pneumatic in the real world though, I'll go with PF, cuz I don't familiar with pneumatic very well and the space of the MOC is very limited.

[TC6] DT-54 Soviet Bulldozer
Hi, all, This is my first MOC and I'm trying to build a DT-54 tractor which is an old tractor made by soviet. Its production began in 1949 and lasted at least to 1979. It will be more or less like below, of course to meet the 4 PF functions requirement, I need to put a blade in the front and a ripper in the behind. Motorized functions: -drive 2xL motor -blade 1xM motor -ripper 1xM motor -power standard AA battery box Right now the chassis is half way completed and I just started building the upper body. Will post some WIP pics later, stay tuned Final model: Video: More photos: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=552423 Thanks for watching and hope you like it

Ford Mustang Gymkhana
falconluan replied to Sariel's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGreat video as always dude Wish I had some RC parts ... Recently, I built a motorized 8041/42041, using 2 PF L motors, 62.4mm truck tires, and it's RWD. I tried to make it driftable although I know it's almost impossible due to the limited power. The result is, it can only "drift" about 90 degrees when suddenly reverse the motor direction and steering to one side simultaneously. According to the test, the power of a L motor is about half of a RC motor, so I wonder whether a 4 L motor car with 2 battery boxes can have some better performance.

falconluan replied to Sariel's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGreat review as always Sariel! I like the B model more as well. Not interested in the building process very much, so I usually skipped that, the only exception was when I tried to build 42031-42037 using your videos. I wonder if the 81.6mm racing tire can fit there, did you ever give them a try?

What sets should I get to kick off some RC MOCs?
falconluan replied to derpydragon's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf you have 9398 and 42030, you'll have enough pf parts for 3 cars at one time. And then, you can choose some sets from 42000, 42007, 42005,42036, 42037,42038,42029 and even 42021x2, since, these sets are all about suspensions, wheels, tracks etc. There are some overlaps between them, so you need "choose" if your budget is limited. For example, I did not buy 42005 myself, instead, I bought/will buy all the others I listed the second line. Since the key parts in 42005, like ball joints, wheels, soft absorbs, are all in the other sets while the other sets have their unique high value parts themselves. Among them, the 42037 is kind of special, cuz it has the same key parts as 42029, I plan to buy it only because the 4 57515s.

What sets should I get to kick off some RC MOCs?
falconluan replied to derpydragon's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor crawler MOCs? I think you should buy 9398 anyway. For one, it has more pf parts that let you build more than one model at a time, which I think is a big plus since you don't have to keep breaking down models for new one. Second, it is actually a very good part set, long hard shock absorbs, big off road wheels, portal wheel hubs, steering arms, links, all of which are key parts for crawlers. More than that, it has a couple of white panels, and some white and orange parts, I like those colors and they can make your MOCs less boring than the red/black/yellow ones.

falconluan replied to Sariel's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi, Sariel I tried building 42035 using your review video yesterday and I noticed that the instruction might have some error on the upper struct of the dumper. You built according to the instruction at first and then I think you changed the building. Am I right about this?

Technic 2015 Discussion and Speculation
falconluan replied to ghostmind's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBlack treads, big ball joint, orange panels, soft axles, soft shock absorbs, short links, seems to be a great set for me. BTW, I did not have a 42005, was about buying one for more crawlers, but this one eliminates my need for it, cuz I already bought a 42029, and am planing to buy the 42037 when it comes out, and I don't want more 81mm wheels lol!

Why does lego still use the ancient AA battery box?
falconluan replied to falconluan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe safety consideration makes sense, after all, the main target user are children. And there are all kinds of "AA battery" if we would like to use.... Thanks all the answers above.

Why does lego still use the ancient AA battery box?
I mean, come on, it will be 2015 in a few months, lithium batteries are everywhere. But lego stopped using it a few years ago except for the mindstorm sets. Is there any story behind this or it is just because they have too many AA battery boxes to sell?
