Makes you wonder how they would compare to using a planetary hub as a non driven hub, would they handle a heavier load and last longer?

On a real crane the derrick is built in front of the crane before the main boom is built and then winched over to the back of the crane. The motorcycle springs represent the rams which stop the derrick from free falling over backwards without the main boom to hold it. When disassembling the crane they push the derrick up and over to the front to be dismantled.

I haven't changed my strings yet, I just use longer rigging from the hook to the load.

Only when testing at the completion of the tracks. It moved well enough then, possibly a little faster than it should, I did look at changing the gears but it would have needed other mods to fit a 24t in place of a 20t. I think with the tracks being sloped up at the ends it will still be okay with all the weight on it.

Yes it would help, I added 22 of the old weight bricks to it and it did add to the capacity but even as standard it is trying to tip backwards when there is no load on the hook, hence the need for the ball roller supports at the back. Unfortunately it is not built as the real crane with machine counterweight and separate ballast tray, that would be a worthwhile mod, but the app doesn't allow for a derrick winch to adjust the derrick angle and ballast radius. That was my biggest disappointment with the set as it makes the app unusable for MOC Cranes. I would like to rebuild it as an LR1400.

Having built this set I can see that even with this much boom in this configuration gives you a large minimum radius, the more boom the greater the radius. To pick up the Audi it was tipping forward which increased the radius too much to pick it up. Blocking the toes of the tracks reduced the forward tilt enoght that it would lift it. The amount of boom it has is probably the optimal length for the model.

I have bought both of these, after not buying any sets since the Volvo hauler, and find them both good sets, though I view them more as parts for my collection than sets. They are both good builds, the Audi is playable and is a lot of panels and bodywork and has a great frame under it, the skidder is also playable but only manually and I think probably the better of the two sets, though it is even better if you add dual wheels all around.

As Aminnich has said most larger Cranes use two winches when rigged for heavy lifting. For example the 600t Demag at work has a 15t line pull, so to get 600t capacity needs 40 parts of line ( falls), that is too slow with a single winch so two winches are used in 20 parts each, giving 300t x2 or 600t combined. It still takes a long time to lower the hook or raise the load from 50m height. Each winch only holds 1000m of rope also so couldn't reach the ground if it was rigged with more than 10 parts if it had a boom height of 100m.

Shame it takes another two months for them to pack the order and ship it, then another 6 weeks to arrive.

My biggest disappointment is that there isn't a winch for raising and lowering the derrick, I was hoping for an app which would have been suitable for using with MOCS but this one is a major shortfall to me. The price is higher like all the PU sets, there is a lot of development in the app as well as the build itself I would expect. Loving the new parts and colours though, we have been getting a great selection of usable parts lately. Looking at the boom I have been trying to work out the parts between the outer frames to make the top and bottom of the boom, being the luffer and derrick are a different width than the main boom, and there looks like separate pieces not just one piece like the side frames.

CC88.3200 is now largest crawler crane. But these are all largest from their manufacturer. LR13000 is a heavy lift crane, not the same as a normal crawler crane like an LR1300 for example.

Just because a crane can have many winches does not mean they are used in every configuration and are usually only fitted if required. We have two winches sitting in the yard for our LG1550 as they are not required in its current configuration. It would add to transport costs to transport them to every site. Also some are mounted in the butt section like the derrick butt so won't be fitted if the derrick is not fitted.

Car body or superstructure, you should be able to see the RH side of it in this picture. There is a link from the Derrick to the back of the superstructure just in front of the superlift pendants, it has a yellow link on it. On the real crane the winch 4 operates the derrick and is mounted at the bottom of the A-frame.
