I don't think I implied that. The point was that LEGO far less sexist back then. Less about stereotypes. The thing is that success or lack of success does not change the truth value of whether or not toys are now more sexist than they used to be. They are no different. Technic figures were meant to segregate technic sets from system sets."These are grown up boys' figures, different from other sets". It was a stunt to underline how different Technic was. Different figures mean segregation. The segregation in this case is related to gender. It totally means that. If they thought that interoperability between the themes was important for girls they wouldn't have made different figures. Success or lack of success is not my problem though. I don't agree at all that just because LEGO are doing things that profit them excuses them and means I am not supposed to criticize them for doing sexist stuff. Making most of their themes stereotypically boyish and then segregating the figures of boys and girls is sexist. The research they used to base many of design decisions in Friends is inherently sexist. Looking for those differences between boys and girls. Women happen to be around 1/2 of the population of earth. If LEGO had no issues with gender, the rates would be around the same for minifigures. Even if girls were biologically less able to appreciate building toys (A claim that is ridiculous and has absolutely no evidence in support) It would still be a problem to have such underrepresentation of females in figures. Because boys would be receiving a special message from LEGO: Men are the ones who do things, and maybe 1/4 of the people who do the interesting things that you like are women. If not less.

    - I still find segregating the figures a sexist move. It determines that friends is a sepearate thing from the other themes. All the other themes are boys' themes, whilst friends is the girls' theme. - I don't think success is an argument against the existence of sexism. - The sexism is affecting girls AND boys. In fact, while the effects of the sexism on Friends are mild (More pink than usual, different minifigures*).It is the effects of the sexism on the other themes that are quite awful. All themes are turning into stereotypical action themes. TLG are being sexist when they brag about their 'research' that assumes that only girls value beauty and detail in their construction sets, while boys value "action". We can't have a space exploration theme without fighting with aliens. Because that's supposedly what boys like. Why is City full of firefighters and cops? Why are 8 our of 13 Creator sets vehicles? A girls theme wasn't needed before, but it is now because themes are getting way too stereotypically boyish. NPR interviewee said that there is no Wonder Woman set. And that's true, isn't it? If someone wanted to buy a WW minifigure, you would have to get Supe vs. Luthor. Because Wonder Woman is a character that supports Super Man against Super Man's arch-enemy. Or at least that's what the set suggests.Of course, in the case of super heroes, a lot of it is the fault of the original tale. This criticism is a lot like blaming TLG because Jabba's palace looks like a Mosque. Comics have serious issues of their own. Although it makes you wonder if it was wise for TLG to pick such a boy's club license... Back to square one.
  3. I see the portal set as a good collectible at least. Any stand of some geek would welcome something that is both a very detailed LEGO model and an accurate representation of such a popular game. TLG seems to like the project, they give flat out NOs when they don't like. I think the reason they didn't green light it is not so that the next review is empty, but because they are still trying to work out the licensing with Valve.
  4. They arrived here. Although I am not paying much attention to them because Series 9 and 10 arrived at the same time. And there is a high probability that series 9 has fewer boxes available. Plus series 9's figures have a better variety, to be honest. I did get a Bee costume and two Warrior Women. I don't notice a worse cheap feeling than previous series.
  5. I love everything about this. But it is so out of reach for me (The money, the space requirement, the fact it will be a LEGO exclusive and therefore I can only purchase it if I ever return to the US.)
  6. What if there comes a time when it allows you to make ALL your pieces? You use a LDD-like tool and it prints all the pieces you need to build it. I think at least clone quality will be accomplished eventually.
  7. The real question is though: Is it compatible with other heroes? I mean, this wave has some relevant variations in hero size and shape.
  8. vexorian replied to pocketmego's post in a topic in LEGO Action Figures
End the theme. I love HF, hence why I'd like it to end before any jumps of the shark. And I mean underwater heroes. For a last wave, I would like a large titan. And I mean a large one. If other themes can have 100 USD sets, why can't we? We have also seen the proof of concept Titan build. So it is possible to make a large titan.
  9. How's your weather? Humid, warm? Some of the first 2.0 bricks could have had flawed production that made the plastic less resistant to time. It is interesting that the feet have the same crack in the same side.

Everything about the humanoid is excellent. The hound is great too. Although I would have personally used Fangz' head.
  11. Golden fig is incredibly pointless. Clown is the only one I am going to kill to have a couple of . The rest are ok. I wouldn't mind getting an old guy and a medusa, librarian/linquist major, Tomahawk, Barbarian woman, Roman and Bee.
  12. It could happen. But I am going to wait till November regardless of what happens with your retailer. #thirdworldproblems.
  13. Dude, September. TLG did jump the shark with the TMNT sets.

With a gap so large between the theme that inspired it and the current thing, you could say the same about NinjaGo.

Thank you. I built this guy before I got XT4. The torso relies on a "normal" 2.0 villain torso and this brick:

I made this a looong time ago. Around the time everyone was posting Meltdown revamps. I liked the idea of a hunchback meltdown and tried to make one too. Brickshelf (If it is ever approved) Thumbnails are links:
  17. I think painting that model white and green was one of the greatest crimes committed in LEGO history. I mean, it looks so great in black. If it appeared in Cuusoo I would vote for it, but would be very depressed because I wouldn't be able to buy it. I doubt it would do well in Cuusoo though. It is not licensed, and it is not system. If this set appeared in my store for around 70 USD, I would be fine buying it. I don't think it has that many bricks to amount for more than 100 USD. But even then I would probably get it. I'd say most of the action figures lurkers got Kardas and Ultimate Dume, so it is not so surprising.
  18. They are not titans though. From witch doctor to Speeda Demon and Jet Rocka shows that they are not trying to make actual Titans anymore. Vehicles are a departure from previous years that were all figures.
  19. I think the set would be around the same size as Witch Doctor in brick counts. The most likely thing that happened is that they were planning to release this thing until the pixies at the market research thing pointed out that even medium-sized sets like Witch Doctor are too large for HF's target market and they had to scrap their master piece. But if it is released in 2014 I will be very happy. Expect me to try to reverse engineer the build though.

I may have omitted that this is quite unstable. The build itself is very rigid, which means that to just remove the canon I need to pull with strength and basically destroy it all. So removing the sticker is easier :)

Thank you everyone. Now that you mention it, since this toxic tank is from a surplus Meltdown I found the other day, I can remove the toxic sticker, I just kind of like it. Might try to remove it for a while and see how it looks.
  22. I don't know about that. I remember how many of the modulars were visible in the video showing the latest R2D2. It *could* be a tease.

Thanks thanks. I might try the trans apple green shells. But they are not going to be around here until about 6 months.

Here it is. What happened is basically I was making a four legged mech. And I also made what could have been a interesting titan torso combining three break out torsos. Both projects weren't really succeeding. Until I discovered, the torso can be a canon. And the four legged mech the base. So, this is it: brickshelf gallery (when approved)

Please don't be insulted by the awful picture quality. It is what it is , I just could not get my brother to take the pictures and I can't use cameras. It began as a Bulk mod... Brickshelf gallery (when approved) Thumbnails are links.
