I decided it was worth sharing the code, which enables control of all the space shuttle's functions via gamepad (no smartphone required). TL, DR -> Here is a Demo video. Explanation of the controlling program: Switching between the functions is done via the game pad "D-PAD". Powering each of the drive motors (Motor A and Motor B) is done via the left and right thumb-sticks vertical movement (up and down). Horizontal movement is not used at all as input. The speed of the motors can be precisely controlled in both directions thanks to the analog output of the thumb sticks. pos. id Selector pos. You can simply copy & paste it into the browser-based Pybricks programming environment to use it. it is pretty self explanatory, and surely it can be improved upon. The variable "position" corresponds to the degrees value the selector needs to switch to. Note: In the set-up phase, the "Car with steering ..." block calibrates the selector motor from end-stop to end-stop, returns to center and set this position to "zero". # pybricks blocks [MOC] LEGO Claw Machine
Hi, everyone, I'm happy to share with you a project of mine that i've i've been working on and off for quite some time now. I've been improving individual modules repeatedly to improve performance. I am now fully satisfied with it functionality-wise. Some info about the model: The model is driven by 4 motors in total: 2 PF XL motors driving X and Y-movement Each motor is triggered by a Power Functions polarity switch. Both polarity switches are linked to the joystick in the middle. 1 PF L Motor - Chain Lower/Raise + Pneumatic pump 1 PF Servo Motor - Pneumatic Valve Both of these motors are connected to a third polarity switch, which is directly linked to the black lever on the right. The aim was to control both Claw Open/Close and Raise/Lower at the same time. I was trying to have both functions driven by a single motor, but it never worked reliably, so i decided to switch to a two-motor approach. Personal goals for this project: I wanted to have a clean look as much as possible; All motors except the Servo Motor are located in the base (black part) in the legs of the stand. This means that motion of the motors is transmitted through axles running the full height of the model, and then through series of 32m cross axles (the longest ones available) The 32m axles define the moving range of the claw, since the mechanism is "threaded" on those axles as they need to be continuous. Future plans: Change the color of the exterior to yellow. The control panel needs to be finished aesthetically. Comments & Feedback are welcome!

Hello! I came across this site: http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4852398 Unfortunately i do not understand Russian, but the linked page seems to contains instructions for MOCS by Sheepo, Sariel, Madoca, Nico 71 and others. I suspect the MOC instructions from those authors are not free for sharing, so my guess is that the above page is illegal. May i ask someone who understands Russian to confirm?

Tried all the numbers i could find for that part. I didn't notice any change from the pullback motor used in the technic sets from 2013 & 2014. Are you sure about it?

Mindstorms RCX ... in hindsight

Since all 3 generations of LEGO Robotics have some sort of built in wireless connectivity, my guess would be that was the reason to use infrared in RCX. For NXT and EV3, they replaced IR with Bluetooth. So in therms of connectivity the major difference between RCX and the latter two generations NXT & EV3 was that they included a wired connection between the Brick and a computer. Another thing i would like to mention is the Spybots and the Micro Scout. Those were from generally the same time as the RCX, and both used only Infrared to communicate with a computer. In the case of the Spybots, an optical cable was plugged directly into the Scout, so that i could transmit IR signals between the devices.

I do not know if u can download firmware to the RCX using BrickCC. I am sure u can download the firmware with the original software though. If u still cant find it, let me know :) Good luck!

[HELP] Control Mindstorms EV3 using Bluetooth gamepad
Hello everyone! I was wondering if it is possible to use a wireless bluetooth gamepad to control a Mindstorms EV3 robot. My goal is to drive a car-like robot with two motors: one for steering and one for fw/back movement via bluetooth using a gamepad like Sony PS3 Sixaxis controller or another wireless bluetooth controller. The thing is that i do not want to use a PC to receive the signal from the gamepad and send commands to the EV3. I want direct communication between the gamepad and the EV3 brick. If anyone knows IF and HOW this might be done, i'd be really thankful if you shared your knowledge!

I ditched the idea of using a computer PSU and purchased a regulated 12v 5a power supply. It helped me realize that a computer PSU is not the best solution. After plugging in the 45501 EV3 rechargeable battery, the two led light up indicating that it is charging. Seems fine so far :) After a few minutes i checked the battery, i noticed it has become warm ONLY in the area near the two LED indicators. Can someone please confirm whether it is normal for the battery to become warm during charging?

I guess it is more likely so, because all the charging electronics seem to be inside the battery, not the LEGO 8887 charger.

So in other words a normal PC PSU's 12v output voltage is not truly regulated. I'll look for information on how to lower the PSU's output voltage from 12v to 10v, and how to regulate the output.
