  1. Yikes! Guess being a one set only part and a quite unique one at that has it's toll. I should have bought the set when it was in production. :(

That's what I thought. I'll just kill them with AdBlock when I see them then. Not that much of a hassle (unless people change 'em ten times a day ).

Sorry to quote a full message but I dug it out of the archives (well, it was not really that long ago). I am with Ralph on this one. Is there a way to block only the images in signatures but not the whole signatures? Or am I stuck with AdBlock and doing it manually?
  4. You don't need special hardware to fit non-LEGO servos into a LEGO MOC: Se more photos of this MOC here: http://lotekbricks.blogspot.com/2001/04/rckillough.html But you can't get proportional steering/power this way, the polarity switches are either on or off. Adding more non-LEGO hardware can solve this. When I used this system back in 2001 I was trying to find someone who could build a custom "servo" that took the signal from the receiver and controlled a 9V output instead, that way it could have been proportional. But I could not find anyone, not that I put that much energy into it...
  5. Well done! I like the studs.
  6. Worst movie ever: Miami Vice. They had the budget, the hype and the characters. Still they managed to do a totally worthless piece of junk!
  7. Haha, love the head-movement. :D
  8. Wow! Well done at that scale! Love the knife as bumperhalf, guess you've put three more on order? :D Some serious SNOT going on as well... What about clear 1 x 2 x 1 panels for windows (or 1 x 4 x 1)? Perhaps that'd ruin rigidity but not do that much to the look? Will there be double exhaust pipes in v3? That's one of the things I remember best of the Beetle, but I'm no connoisseur so perhaps that varies with different years.
  9. Wow! I saw the first photo and thought it was a real tape to show what you wanted to build. Upon closer inspection I realized it was a tad too thin. Very well done! But 100 bricks is not under 100 bricks, now is it? ;) Did you write "Made in BELG UM" with no 'I' on purpose?
  10. Nah. I knew the place existed back in the day but I was already quite attached to LUGNET and could not see the point of following two forums. Thanks. If anybody else is interested it's here: http://vimeo.com/7539827
  11. Har den äran i efterskott Ras (eller ska man beklaga?)! Happy day-after-birthday Rayman!
  12. Thanks Ralph! Here's one lifting cargo (big pic): http://www.bobsgarageandtowing.com/images/...0lift%20017.jpg
  13. Thanks all! Tempting alas not feasible. :(
  14. Hi all! My name is Tobbe Arnesson (who could guess?). :everybody: Hi Tobbe! Well, thank you! So, the who, the why and so forth... I'm from Sweden, born 1978 and put the bricks to rest shortly after receiving the 8830 Rally 6-Wheeler. So in the early 90ies, guess girls and mopeds got in the way. Before that I dwelled mostly in Technic and before that City. I had a short hit of nostalgia and built most of my sets, tried to capture some cool action video with my then new Hi8 cam but that never amount to anything. This might have been around '97 or so. In '99 a friend got all excited about the 9747 Robotics Inventions System and he did not need to waste many words on me before I bought it, actually before he did. The concept was so cool! Make your LEGO creations move around the room! In the end it turned out I preferred slapping bricks together in stead of programming code, I got enough computer exposure at work. So to say. But I still wanted to drive my creations around, so I took out ye ol' remote control stuff from model airplanes. And it was alive! I hung out a lot on LUGNET, arranged a few AFOL meetings in Sweden and attended others. After a while I lost interest in the bricks, LUGNET was all bad energy due to the color change, too much self pressure to document and sort and to little play. When I had to move to a smaller apartment the bricks went into storage. From time to time I peeked on what stirs in the AFOL community and autumn 2009 I found a meeting less then an hour from home, went and found lot's of new Swedish AFOLs and a bunch of the old ones. Bought a house with lot's of room and the 8258. I still have not moved to the new house but I've already bought quite a few used sets (most of the cool Technic sets that came and went while I was in hibernation) and are now eager to get building again! Not to mention how much I want the soon to come 8043 Motorized Excavator with all those remote control thingies! Might have to pick up the 8275 Motorized Bulldozer too (if it's still collecting dust at my local store)! LUGNET is quite dead and I got word that the Technic crowd has moved here, so here I am! I've already spent quite some time in the Technic group before I went to the other subforums here, after this I'll head over to Space and see what's up. Quite fond of ships and mechs too... Oh, and if other Swedish AFOL's see this and have not yet found SweBrick - make sure to take a look! I'm passionate about biking, mostly MTB but really everything from full on DH to road. Recently "found" kayaking and that will also steal lot's of time from the bricks. I'm drawn to both white water and sea, like bikes but on water. :D Also very fond of the endorphin kicks when lifting weights. Don't get me wrong though, I've got a belly and put more focus on the cakes in the back pack than on my heart rate. Also I'm quite the beer geek, favorites include Arrogant Bastard and Rochefort 10. My old and upcoming work is here: http://lotekbricks.blogspot.com/ Lek Godt!
  15. How very original! Well done too! Instant recognition! :D Danny Elfman and Tim Burton is a great combination!
  16. This MOC is even better today! Just noticed the license plate, hah! :D One beef though, how many tow trucks have a crane like that? I made a Google image search for heavy tow truck: http://images.google.se/images?q=heavy+tow+truck The only ones with a tall crane are built out of LEGO. :D Not that it makes your MOC any less impressive in any regard, mostly curios if you had a "real world" inspiration?
  17. Have I understood you correctly? You want to build a machine that will do real work? Not just replicate an existing machine as a LEGO-model? You choose LEGO since you could not find a better construction material? If so, sorry, but I think you put your money on the wrong horse. LEGO is (this might come as a shock to quite a few), after all a toy. The parts can be put into working things for sure, but if you want rigidity and reliability it's not a good material. Even if you manage to build something that works, after a short while the plastic will be ground to dust. I'd visit the scrapyard and find some metal gears, rods, bearings and what not if I were you. Sure it'll need cutting, drilling and perhaps even welding but in the end you'd get a machine that holds up. I've found that old copy machines and large printers are full of gears, bearings and axles. Quite a source for smaller projects! LEGO can be great for prototyping but not real construction...
  18. Yes, it had quite a few: Elevator rudder, controlled by a large pneumatic piston Side rudder, controlled by a small pneumatic piston Ailerons, controlled by two small pneumatic pistons that work in opposite directions Retractable landing gears, controlled by five large pneumatic pistons Opening/closing loading hatch at the back, using one small and one large pneumatic piston that work in opposite directions Steerable nose wheel, using one geared down 9V motor Main engines rotate the propellers, uses four old style 9V motors Automatic pneumatic compressor More words and crap photos here: http://lotekbricks.blogspot.com/2001/04/hercules.html
  19. Stunning MOC! Here's a direct link to when the Airbus appears:
  20. It's called bb301 at BrickLink: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=bb301
  21. I stumbled across your bike before I found this thread, it's very well made! Perhaps the best rendition of a larger LEGO bike I've seen! At an AFOL gathering back in 2005 I saw the Hailfire Droid wheels for the first time and started on a LEGO MTB, just a design study with another AFOLs bricks so take it for what it is: I might have to revisit this some day or another...
  22. Wow, now that was a great first post! :D Very good playability, well made. It looks really well to! Personally I think the hood is a tad to flat, the three middle beams should be slightly tilted up in the back to give it some more curves. Well done to get all that function in such a small and good looking package!
  23. Nice! Love how the rear hatch snaps into the panels. :) Reminds me of Avatar too:
