13-Year-Old Creator of Lego Braille Printer Is Youngest Ever to Receiv
http://www.nbcbayare...-281559331.html From a child playing with Legos to the founder of a Silicon Valley technology company. It's a path many of today's young business leaders have likely followed. None, however, have made the transition quite as quickly as Shubham Banerjee. On Tuesday, Intel Capital announced it will invest in Braigo Labs and its 13-year-old founder. This makes Shubham, according to Intel's research, the youngest recipient ever of venture capital funding. "That's a big thing," Shubham says of the distinction. Shubham's original Braille printer, Braigo, was created using a $350 Lego Mindstorms robotic kit. Shubham first came to the attention of the technology world earlier this year when, as a 12-year-old, he created a functioning Braille printer out of a Lego Mindstorms robotics kit. "I was just looking to help the visually impaired," says Shubham of the project, created over a three-month period working nights and weekends on his family's kitchen table in their Santa Clara home. Shubham says the idea for the printer, eventually dubbed Braigo, started with a flier dropped off at the Banerjee home. It was a request for donations to a charity aiding the blind. Shubham says he had never before given much thought to the lives of the visually impaired. WATCH MORE BAY AREA PROUD STORIES He asked his father how blind people read.

LEGO Hoarding?
From WIKIpedia: Compulsive hoarding (or pathological collecting, or, informally, packratting) is a pattern of behavior that is characterized by the excessive acquisition of and inability or unwillingness to discard large quantities of objects that cover the living areas of the home and cause significant distress or impairment. does it sounds familiar?? Do you have a lot of LEGO sets, which occupy a lot of living space? Did you buy many LEGO sets, but never open. and keep it unopened for years? (thinking about resale, regift, part-out LATER, but never happened?) Did you buy many LEGO used pieces but still sitting in the bins and never have time to sort them out? Do you have have many unfinished MOCs from..like years? Do you keep all the instruct books, all the boxes..even the LEGO club magazines. the sticker sheets and LEGO catalogs? even the plastic number bags?? Do you think "I have too many LEGO pieces" but still buy some more when you think it is cheap enough? Do you not only buy some LEGO sets. but also some watches, key chain, playing cards, magnet or even eraser/notebook? what do you think ? anything wrong?

GBC - Balls and sets where to start?
happymark replied to DS613's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI am new for GBC too. here are some of my thoughts 1) any sets would do, although you might want to buy some Technic sets. normal bricks & Plates would be useful too. even your existing set 2) there is a basket piece, you can also build your own using bricks or Technic parts. balls are a little hard to get - (some GBC fans are hoarding a lot of them). maybe try to get from bricklink. also, there is a thread for it. (you can use cheap beads) http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=69642 3) you can be gears from Technic set, Education set or LEGO NXT, of course bricklink.com 4) power function, you can buy from shop.lego.com or bricklink.com basically, bricklink.com shop.lego.com legoeducation.com ebay.com craigslist.org just my 2c

When did your collection reach critical mass?
I feel I am getting close.. haven't sorted several boxes loose pieces which I just bought a couple of months ago. and seems that I am running out of space already (for storage). I guess I have to sell something .. Don't mention the sets I am still buying (when it is on sale). but I do not think I want to open any of them for now.

Do not like a 'new' piece
thank you for all the reply. I think one of the reason for this cockpit. is that it mixed curve and 'straight edge'. but agree, it might be a personal thing.. I like these better: even this:

Do not like a 'new' piece
I am not sure if anybody has similar feeling. I really do not like this cockpit piece. (not the color, although I hate the clear the most) somehow I feel this isn't LEGOish. or maybe too Childrenish(more like a 4+ piece)? is this only me?

Brickworld - Chicago 2013
Based on my experience, we usually stay there for almost a day (3-5 hours?) for events, you can check http://www.brickworld.us/view/info/eventinfo/ they always have some LEGO short films playing normally (not sure about this year) and also the NXT game (never play though). it also depends how long you want to talk with AFOLs .
