  1. Challenge Six, Part I After several months of being under siege, Cedrica, ruled by the wizard Victor Revolwordwas in ruins. Walls had been shattered by catapults and trebuchets, and had hastily been repaired with weak rock or even fragile wooden structures. Buildings were ablaze and the oppressed people were starving. Revolword had secured the city using the mighty forces of the Hand of Corruption. As soon as word had reached the guilds they immediately mobilised their forces to make a final confrontation against the dark wizard. The joint forces of the four guilds had finally decided to storm the city. There was no way they could secure victory by numbers alone, but this was not their plan. The four most powerful wizards in all of Historica had been summoned to confront Victor. They were to enter his throne room through the ancient catacombs under the city. The assault of the city was merely to distract Revolword and draw his guard from his throne room. The wizards had assembled one the eastern flank of Cedrica, under the protection of the Nocturnun Rakath Legion, an all orc company, led by Lord Orkusack. The skillful goblin burrowers had been slowly digging under the walls for the past few weeks not only to lead the wizards into the catacombs, but also to create an easy route for Orkusack's orcs to enter the city. The battle had begun. Ladders were raised. Gates were battered. Walls were shaken. The metal clash of swords rang across the walls of Cedrica. Orkusack's soldiers began his attack. Rellik Nam rallied his troops on the wall. Victor had used his dark magic to corrupt the weak minded Cedricans into fighting for him . Orkusack stood on a rock and inspired his soldiers as a ladder was raised. Next to him the flag of Nocturnus had been planted. Contact was made. The ladder hit the wall with a loud "thud". Orcs jumped off the top and began to attack their red brethren. More orcs climbed up the ladder and others poured into the tunnel under the wall to sweep into the city. The undead flying soldiers of the Kaliphlin wizard, Wolf, swooped down on the unsuspecting Corruption troops while red and green orcs clashed. The history of red orcs is relatively unknown but most historians in Historica agree that they had formed a great empire of their own in Nocturnus thousands of years ago. The empire was soon destroyed by overwhelming numbers of oppressed and neglected swamp and mountain orcs. After their downfall, the red orcs continued fighting with the other orcs but were being spared no mercy. Most historians thought the red orcs were killed off, though legends existed that they had survived and went into hiding, becoming the Hand of Corruption. The Hand was regarded as a fairytale and so many people were shocked and scared to discover of their existence and return. While the Rakath Legion battled with the Hand, the wizards descended into the catacombs under the city... ———— Part II The wizards descended into to the dark abyss. The tunnel started out quite small but it soon widened into a great cavern. These catacombs had been dug out by ancient priests living in Cedrica as a place to bury their dead. They abandoned the catacombs after they were driven from Cedrica by raiders from the west. Much later on, goblins took residence in the catacombs after they were persecuted and eventually expelled from Cedrica. The previously ornate walls and arches had fallen into decay after centuries of neglect, and the goblins destroyed any evidence of architecture when they dug the caves wider and taller. Most of the Goblins had returned to the city when it changed its policies, others left to Nocturnus to hunt in the Rakath mountains. Those who stayed in the catacombs were seen as a pest by the Cedricans as they often came to the surface to steal livestock from farmers in the night. The goblins would also attack any unfortunate soul that found its way into the catacombs. The wizards were followed by a couple of goblins during their journey. Most orcs had a fear of magic so these goblins kept their distance, not wanting to be killed by the dangerous wizards. ———— After having freed the Imperial guard from the dungeons where they were being tortured, Orkusack led the new merged army of men and orcs through the streets towards Victor's throne room. Suddenly a battalion of White Hand orcs came around the corner. At their head was an almighty orc wielding a large rock club. He was in a rage and charged towards Orkusack with a lightning pace. Orkusack dodged the clumsy orc's blow and nimbly swiped the orc's chest. The orc roared and fell back, Orkusack stabbed it and it fell down on its face. Orkusack was pleased with himself, he had inspired the troops and was preparing to move on. But suddenly, Rellik Nam, the leader of the White Hand, came out from among the crowd. He stood and face Orkusack, their eyes fixed on each other. Their swords clashed as Rellik tried to cut at Orkusack. Eventually Rellik was pushing down on Orkusack's sword, his strength overpowering the green orc. The red orcs were cheering as Rellik's overwhelming strength descended on Orkusack. But suddenly, with one last burst of effort, Orkusack pushed Rellik's sword to one side and sliced at his chest. His heavy armour protected him, but the heavy blow forced him onto his knees in front of Orkusack. Upon seeing their leader defeated, the White Hand fell into chaos. They ran. They made no effort to defend themselves after that and many made their way for the wilderness. Orkusack's forces began to cheer and immediately made chase as they saw the enemy fleeing. "Have mercy, we are both orcs. You would never slay a brother." Pleaded the helpless Rellik. "You are a murderer and a brute who has aligned himself with a tyrant. You shall have no mercy." Orkusack replied, raising his sword. ———— Part III The wizards had crept in from the catacombs through the secret basement entrance. They climbed the stairs and found Victor playing with his staff in his throne room. "You seem a little under occupied for a man whose city is under attack," Said Laurence, the young Avalonian wizard. "I did not expect your forces to reach here, and even so soon," Replied the evil wizard. "Or maybe you are just growing senile in your old age," stated the Wolf. "You think I'm senile, ey?" questioned the old man. Suddenly a ball of fire erupted from his staff and engulfed the female orc wizard, bringing down the tall pillar. Before the other 3 wizards could react he turned around and struck down the old Mitgardian mage with a stream of lightning. By now, Laurence and the Wolf were ready. Together they created a wall of fire around Victor. Victor tried to strike the two wizards through the fire, but no magic could penetrate it. "You have lost Victor, lay down your staff," Laurence demanded. But before he could say anything else, the old wizard vanished in a puff of smoke. Orkusack and an Avalonian general came rushing in. "Where is he?" The orc demanded. "He vanished into thin air," replied the young wizard. The wolf, however, was silent. He stood watching the black smoke rise, fascinated at how Victor had escaped, intrigued by it. ———— And so, the city was seized quickly after the White Hand had disbanded, with it's people released from Victor's spell. The joint armies of Historica helped rebuild much of the city, while all soldiers throughout the land searched for Victor. He was nowhere to be found. It seemed that he had disappeared for good. And finally the rightful king returned, having fled the city, and was crowned in an almighty coronation, attended by folk from all of Historica. The end.
