Hello fellow EB members; I present my newest MOC with a distinct American feel from the 1940's - Brickhills Avenue. It was inspired by a trip to Disney's Hollywood studios several years ago. I was really interested in the Art Deco/Streamline styling of some of the stores on 'Sunset Boulevard' and 'Hollywood Boulevard' and did some research to find out where they got their inspiration from. Many of these buildings are based on real one's in and around L.A, many of which are still in use today albeit with different purposes. The corner store houses Gini's electrical store and the white and black streamline building is a ladies clothing boutique. I certainly enjoyed making the ladies store more than the electrical shop I've set it in the early 1960's, just as the 'Walk of fame' stars we're being added to the sidewalk/pavement, also a good excuse to use some very cool Scooby-Doo 1960's hairpieces! Hi everyone, here is my latest creation De Luca's menswear! It is a 4 storey building with a store for stylish menswear on the ground floor and several apartments in the floors above. It fits exactly onto two 32x32 baseplates. I wanted to see how interesting I could make a predominantly grey based fascia as I have done mainly white/tan facades most recently. I figured enough texture and occasional colouring could bring it to life. I also wanted to experiment with an idea I had to make a different shape of apartment by hinging the bedrooms for access. It's pretty sturdy with a couple of hinges per wall for reinforcement but it did limit the colour palette slightly. Sadly no bathrooms this time but thought the spacing and shape would allow for kitchens easily enough. The building is based in the early 1960's for reference. I wanted to make furniture from a different era than I usually do. The vehicle is an American style sedan. It took a lot of fiddling to get the rear wheel arch to line up perfectly! I couldn't quite get good light for pics of the bedroom interiors so ill probably post all the furniture separately in the future. Comments and questions welcomed! Hi everyone, My latest moc is called The Ocean restaurant and is inspired by Miami's south beach area. I felt some of my ealiest attempts on the style didn't do it justice. I thought a 1 storey building wouldn't be as time-consuming as some of my more recent buildings much larger in size which would allow me to concentrate more on the details and refinement. The exterior was done first and I wasn't originally going to do an interior but was persuaded to and I'm pleased I did as it turned out to be pretty fun designing. Hi everyone! Here is a quick build I made after returning from the US in the summer where I got a little inspiration. It gave me a chance to use some techniques which I wanted to use a long time ago. I wanted to use lots of classic streamline moderne elements and styles. Its a shop selling clothes for ladies. I mainly wanted to concentrate on the fascia of the building so didn't bother making it completely modular like previous builds. Hello everyone. Here is my latest creation - The Monde cinema. (Monde roughly translating into 'World' in French) I've wanted to build a cinema for quite some time now, after getting the palace cinema it really pushed me into making my own. It is of a 1920-30's design using some Egyptian and Mayan styling. The Grand-Rex in Paris was my inspiration on exterior proportions. I chose a french name for the Cinema in homage. I spent a huge amount of time checking out interior and exterior styling of Cinema's and this changed the design throughout the build. It took me forever to decide on the right dimensions. I didn't want to make it too deep to restrict light for photos at the back. I felt if it was too tall the figs would look out of proportion. I also didn't want to make a huge auditorium full of seats with a very tall ceiling. I felt it wouldn't be much to look at. I was more interested in making a tall welcoming lobby with a more detailed floor design and 'slight' windows. The challenge I set myself was to make working brick built doors and brick built windows. There is also a bar downstairs to break up the fascia at the front and lower the height of the auditorium. Hi everyone, here is my latest creation, the Cocoa hotel. I got my inspiration from old postcards showing hotels and other buildings in bright holiday settings. The postcards are perhaps a little unrealistic but definitely bold, fun and there's always a blue sky! I chose to base the build mostly on the Carlyle hotel which still exists to this day as I had the bricks to achieve it. It's not an exact copy, most reference material to the colour shows it's been changed several times, so I chose to go with beach colours which I had a decent amount of. I have made many changes to the design but wanted to keep the 3 vertical columns as a focal point. I wanted to do a little more landscaping and make the build with more depth as opposed to height like my previous building 'Avenue Saint-Jacques'. I liked the idea of having a drop-off driveway and a large veranda but this is not necessarily an accurate reflection of what you may see in reality. I never wanted to leave it empty so have furnished all 3 floors. Downstairs there is a lobby, lounge and bar. Upstairs has 4 suites with individual bathrooms.
