After my TIE-Emancipator, here comes my rendering of the TIE-Defender, legendary spacecraft from the Star Wars expanded universe. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Directly inspired from the 8087 Lego set, here is my attempt at the TIE-Defender. Originally, I merly wanted to slightly modify my 8087 in order to block the rotation of the cockpit. Ultimately, I rebuilt the TIE from scratch, one update after the other. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr As a consequence, my version is heavier and looks bulkier. However this only makes it more impressive. And a good side effect is that the wings are now symmetrical on both sides. No more inverted studs. :) TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Front view depicting its angelic face. My first time not mine MOC review. As fan of 4x4 cars I can't miss oportunity to build this MOC by Sheepo. It is not huge like other Fernando's MOC's. So I am in! I decided to do it with shortest and smallest version (I am lazy and busy simultaneously) - 90 inch version. I split my review to 5 parts - 5 separate videos with comments, close ups and so on, cons&pros. Turn on youtube subtitles - they are english! If you are busy to watch all 5 episodes, I advice you to watch the last - 5th epsiode. I will start from it right now. Epsiode 5. This shoud be in the end of the post, but I am afraid you can't go till the end. My vision of Defender: Ultimate offroad machine, well result is not ultimate, but at least looking like that (I hope). I have to solve some weak points of original MOC. Model lost some its pros: gearbox and realistic axles. I have to reinforce chassis and transmission for high load purpose and increased weight of detailed model. Unfortunately, cant make Land Rover unkillable as my Toyota FJ. But result is lovely, Defender will take its place on my "untoucable" shelve with mechanical MAP chassis. many photos of this version is here You shoud know, that MAP - is modular all-terrain platform. And all LR body verison based on this customizable modular chassis. Episode 1 is about chassis Then I have built Defender 90 body in yellow color. Almost STOCK. More photos. I have too much of this color, and construction machines - is not about me. So this LR is good oportunity to use all yellow parts for Camel Trophy style MOC. Episode 2 is about Defender body and small modifications I did with it. Episode 3 is about outdoor test drive. Then my viewers ask me to compare LR with its all-time real competitor - Toyota Land Cruiser. I have several ready to go Land Cruisers on my shelve. So, that was easy for me. !!PROJECT IS ABANDONED AND DISCONTINUED!! Hi everyone! I'd like to present to you my WIP Land Rover Defender 90. First, some explanations. The goal was to make pretty accurate car with two live axles, 2 gears (slow and fast) and 2 differential locks (middle and rear). I started from scrolling throug Unimog instruction to get some inspiration. The first try at building chassis was successful, but the steering tended to break and gears slipped (PF Servo in the middle of chassis, PF XL on front). Both differential locks, based on Sariels minimalistic differential lock, worked correctly (sorry, no photos). So I rebuilded everything with Servo on front axle on two PF L in the middle. Still I wasn't satisfied with front and gears slipped . Then came the third version with PF XL on the back, good gears design and front independent suspension (differential locks were ditched in the process). But... The basic TLG double whishbone suspension (3 and 5 studs high) tend to be wobbly if assembled poorly (read: assembled by me ), especially with big wheels. I got pissed of and in result dug the internet in search for something good. Finally I ended up with nicjasnos' McPherson suspension. It works perfectly btw . To summarize this a bit long introduction, Land Rover now has front independend McPherson suspension, live axle on back, 2 gears and 4WD with PF XL motor, no differential locks. Without the locks it's pretty unusable in terrain, but runs smoothly on flat. And now the meat part, photos! The plan is to make the bodywork detachable in case I want to improve both cassis and body separately. Also it'd be great to make front live axle with portal axle and correct kingpin inclination and positive caster angle, and both differential locks switched with PF M motors.
