An entry into the Forbidden Fortress category of the Colossal Castle Contest. A collab between John (LittleJohn) and I: John built the landscape, while I built the fortress. The build is based off of the story of Beren and Luthien from the Silmarillion. There's a full interior inside, and the drawbridge is functional. Sauron's werewolf form, and Huan were both inspired by Dunedain and Blake Baer. Luthien and Huan, the Hound of Valinar, rescue Beren from Sauron's fortress of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Sauron takes the form of a werewolf to battle Huan. "Therefore he (Sauron) took upon himself the form of a werewolf, and made himself the mightiest that had yet walked the world; and he came forth to win the passage of the bridge... But no wizardry nor spell, neither fang nor venom, nor devil's art nor beast-strength, could overthrow Huan of Valinor; and he took his foe by the throat and pinned him down" (Tolkien 175). Gates and drawbridge closed: There's a lot to see, so check out additional pictures here: http://www.brickbuilt.org/?p=1687 C&C welcome

Hello All, I have exhibited at Legoworld in the Netherlands this year with a landscape based on the first pirates series. The landscape is 7 meters long and 1.25 wide. I created this landscape with my brother and it took ,roughly said, 5 months to built. We wanted a bigger landscape, but we did not have that many blue baseplates. The landscape contains a small town with a wall around it. There is a small harbor and a bit of countryside. Behind the wall is a big sea with several Islands of the Imperial soldier. There is one big island with Islanders. The island contains a volcano, several waterfalls and cottages of the Islanders. Across the sea is a fortress of the Imperial Armada. In the end corners of the landscape are several pirate hideouts and a city of gold (Eldorado?). Here is the link to the pictures. http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=560054 Questions and comments/feedback are welcome. Sincerely, Sander

As the fierce struggle against the invading Algus continued, it became obvious that Mitgardia needed to strengthen its defense against the frozen beyond. Thus a new fortress was to be established in the north, to serve as the main bastion against this chilling foe. The construction of such a castle was no small feat, and troops and supplies were rallied from all of Mitgardia. Upon its completion, the great fortress Rekkrfell was manned by the Kylma Katsella. This was built back in April of 2015, and was really too big for the parts and time I had available then. Thus, while there are several sections I really like, I'm not very pleased with the MOC as a whole. There are more pictures available on my website, link. C&C always welcome

Here is chapter 2 of my story about Aymeri and the fight to reclaim Katoren. I’ve wanted to try a desert ruins scene for a while now, so this was a rather fun build. Inspired by Markus’ amazing build. I would like to claim the following UoP credits: History Military Science: battle scene After the council meeting, Aymeri and Tierri set to work gathering a few of their most experienced soldiers, and some supplies to set up the initial camp at the ruins of Kharab fortress, just outside of Katoren. Once they had all snuck out of the city bringing their supplies and some weapons, they travelled to the ruins, as discreetly as possible. What they found inside Kharab, however, was not what they expected. "Hey-ho, look'e what I got 'ere! One 'o them merchants in town gave me all this gold for them blankets we pinched off the last caravan," Rognir declared as he proudly displayed a bag of gold coins. "Ooh! Gimme the shinies!" Ahriss immediately replied, quickly getting to his feet and rushing toward the inviting bag of loot. "Get back, you, aye got this meself!" Rognir brandished his axe and Ahriss quickly stopped, though his eyes remained greedily fastened on the bag. At this, Khatir, who had been seated on a crude bench finally spoke up:"Shut up, both of ya! We'll divvy the gold evenly and if either of you tries to cheat, I'll slit your throat. So sit down, Ahriss, and let Rognir show us the gold." Seeing Khatir's drawn dagger, and his apparent readiness to carry out his threat, the other two quickly complied. Meanwhile, the bandit leader returned from his scouting of the nearby trade route. "No new caravans going by today, the road was pretty much empty, 'cept a few peasants... What are you doing with that scorpion, Karih?" asked Zaeim suspiciously. "Why, slicin' him up fer dinner 'o course! You 'ant me to save ya the tail?" the grubby cook responded. Zaeim's countenance quickly darkened, "I don't want any part of a scorpion you fool! Make something edible for once!" "There's no 'eason for you to get yerself upset, all yer shouting will scare Fa'ar, e's still learning to trust us!" exclaimed Karih, as he quickly stooped to reassure his pet rat. Zaeim's response was cut off by a cry from Qatie, the look out:"To arms! Soldiers outside!" Aymeri's group had made it to the ruins undetected, but were surprised to hear the sounds of voices from within. Aymeri and Tierri discussed what they should do while one of the soldiers cautiously peeked around the rotting door to see who was inside. "Looks like bandits," he reported, "I see 5 men." Tierri spoke up, "With the 4 of us, we should be able to take them by surprise and capture them quickly." "I agree, let's rush them together," Aymeri said, readying his bow. But just before they started their ambush, their plan was ruined by Qatie's cry of alarm. Realizing that a fight was now inevitable, the small group rushed ahead. When the first soldier burst in, Zaeim was already facing the doors , and so he quickly attacked with his huge scimitar. With a cry of alarm, Karih promptly hurled the dead scorpion directly at Tierri. The other bandits rushed for their weapons, their gold momentarily forgotten. The scorpion caught Tierri squarely in the face, momentarily stunning him. Karih didn't try to follow up the attack, but instead stooped to pick up his beloved pet rat, as Khatir, Rognir, and Ahriss rushed towards the fight. After recovering from the unexpected blow, Tierri hastily moved to battle Khatir, while Aymeri quickly directed an arrow towards another onrushing bandit. Zaeim brought a crushing blow down on his foe, who was barely able to block in time. Aymeri's shot smashed into Rognir's shoulder, knocking him backward and out of the fight. After recovering Fa'ar, Karih's only thought was to flee. Unfortunately, his flight sent him crashing into Ahriss. Zaeim's powerful blow had hammered the solider to the ground, and the bandit chief prepared his finishing stroke as Aymeri knocked another arrow and Tierri continued to struggle with Khatir. Qatie had been waiting for the attackers to move out from the archway enough for her to have a clear shot, and now she readied her crossbow and fired. The downed warrior tried to scramble backwards away from Zaeim's stroke, but Aymeri's final soldier leaped to his comrade's aid, plunging his spear into the threatening figure. In that instant, the crossbow bolt buried itself into the ground, barely missing the soldiers Aymeri released another arrow at the fleeing cook, and hit the man's calf, immediatlely halting the escape. Tierri had finally gotten the better of his opponent with a parry from his shield and quick counterattack, while the soldiers made sure Zaeim was vanquished. Aymeri however had a new foe. Ahriss had finally recovered from his run in with Karih, and whipped his spiked chain towards Tierri, forcing the warrior to block with his shield. One of Aymeri's men started towards the orc to start a flank attack, not noticing the downed bandit in his path. As he stumbled and fell, his spear battered into the orc's armor. Despite Qatie's ferorcious attack, Aymeri parried confidently with his dagger, then followed with a left handed uppercut. The punch sent the bandit reeling up against the wall. Thus the ruins of Kharab fortress were seized by Aymeri and his men after an unexpected dispute. Build pictures: There are some more pictures on brickbuilt. C&C appreciated, on both the build and story

This is the last of 4 micros I built as prizes for the Guild Creation category of the Summer Joust. These 4 builds were meant to fit the category, so I focused on different aspects of the same civilization: castle, town, farm, and landscape. I chose to name it the Land of Rauor, as Rauor is the Norse word for red and I used red roofs to help tie all the models together. All 4 together: You can see more pictures on brickbuilt Thanks for looking, comments always appreciated

Built for the 2016 MOCAthalon, the category this time was “Classic Update.” I chose to update the Black Falcon Fortress #6074. The original featured a working drawbridge and hinging walls to allow for multiple building layouts. I kept both those features, and added a dual catapult, jail with break-away wall, great hall with fireplace and table, and a stables with working gate. There are 6 minifigs included: 4 Black Falcons, and 2 Crusaders, plus there are two horses, some extra weapons, and a treasure chest. There are 2 ladders to allow minifigs to reach the walls, and they can fold up out of the way so you can reach into the interior. See more pictures on brickbuilt Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed this remake of a classic set. I admit to rigorously play testing this model

[ESL-FB1] Please don't take it apart
Captain Braunsfeld posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
"Please don't take it apart, it is so well playable", was what my wife said when I announced that I would like to significantly modify this fortress: So I added a few Eslandolean touches to a build that I'm showing here for the first time (but it has been played with a number of times). Then an Admiral appeared, inspecting his soldiers... ... and some guy met up with another strange guy... And you can see on the sides that this was actually meant to be part of a larger layout. My problem is that I don't do those raised baseplates anymore ... and sand is now "tan" for me not "yellow". But as I have said, I cannot take it apart... As this is a modular build I can actually take it apart! And there you have it: An Eslandolean Fortress on Nelissa! C&C Welcome! More and larger pics can be found on flickr.- 21 replies

The third phase of my project to show Arangr Castle through all 4 seasons. This was a fun season to build, as it being the time of harvest, I was able to have lots of fun minifig details. As well as some fall foliage, which is always neat. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Fall sees the harvest of crops, and storage of provisions for winter. The leaves fall, as the weather gets colder, and animals also make preparation to hibernate or migrate south. As usual, there are more pictures on my website: link Thanks for looking, one season left

The second phase of my project to show Arangr Castle through all 4 seasons. See spring here. The landscape changed most, though there are some changes to be found inside the castle as well. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Summer sees the continuing growth of plant and animal life. The warmer weather dries up the spring rains and encourages outdoor activities. More pictures can be found on my website. Thanks for looking

As I was brainstorming ideas for a new build, John suggested a castle with four phases, showing how it, and the landscape, changes through each season. Realizing a good idea when I heard it, I set to work on the castle. Since I will need to modify the landscape for each phase, I planned to have the castle lift off so it’s easy to rework the base. As usual there’s a full interior, this time accessed by both a hinging section, and pull out rooms. The castle itself was inspired mainly by the creations of Eklund, DNL, and Aliencat. Simon S. suggested the addition of a moat. The castle features a working drawbridge, gates, and shutters. This is one of my biggest builds, weighing in at over nineteen and a half pounds; the base is 52×52 studs, including the border. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Spring brings new life to the countryside, as the snow finally melts, and animals awake from hibernation, or migrate back to the area. It’s a busy time of year, as fields need to be plowed and planted, and supplies restocked. Drawbridge closed: As always, you can see more pictures on my website: link I hope you like it, summer will be coming next

Snowy Castle dioramas have long been my favorite subject matter, so this was an extraordinarily fun build. This is my largest irregular base build to date, and features a full interior throughout the whole keep. The rockwork was made using my technic brick design, which you can see a tutorial on, here: Flickr It's my personal favorite of all my builds so far, so I hope you all like it The citizens of Nordheim are quite proud of their large keep, and can often be found feasting inside it's protective walls on cold wintry days. "Team Fortress 2 is centered around two opposing teams competing for an objective. These two teams are meant to represent a demolition and a construction company as a part of the backstory: Reliable Excavation Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU). Players can choose to play as one of nine classes in these teams, each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and roles" - Wiki TF2 maps have a similar and fairly consistant art scheme so its safe to say this map isnt based of a specific scene but I took inspiration for quite a lot of maps, the most noticable being; Dustbowl, Badwater and Upward. With all that information in mind, like Saxton Hale himself, lets jump straight into the action! Blu Team are pushing against red who are defending their Inteligance briefcase (Basicly a flag in CTF). Demoman Drinking on the Job and a Heavy Medic combo pushing against a Scout. Pyro doing well spy checking! "Snipings' a good job mate!". Sniper poking out the window, engineer builidng a level 3 sentry and a Spy about to kill the engineer. The blue engineer below (myself) is stealing the briefcase! Red medic respawning...again... Teams! Demoman, Heavy, Medic, Engineer, Spyand Pyro. Scout, Soldier, Spy, Sniper, Engineer and medic. I hope you enjoyed it, let me know what you think and check out the Brickshelf page -Mightyslickpancake

Hello, now, it is time to present a fortress on an island that is inspired by 6265 "Sabre Island": And I am very happy to do so: As you may recall, the Sabre Island set as a blue coat rowing towards the island. My island version is slightly bigger... There is a brave guard awaiting the boat: Aerial view (not historically correct ) On one side of the island we find a waterfall (through which you get into the inside of the rock) On the other side there is a cave (with a secret door that this unlucky guy obviously did not find) The different levels of fortress and rock are accessible .. and everything is modular: (The monkey will come in later) The white background makes it easier to spot a few things: I hope you like this island fortress - and I am looking forward to comments and questions!

Hey guys, This build was just a redo of a castle set i wish i had when i was a kid. A friend told me to enter it into CCCXII so I did but it didn't really fit in to any categories so I entered it into miscellaneous - large. This would have been good in last years categories, as there was a category for a redo of and old set with new parts. But whatever I'm very happy with this build. (also the gate at the front can be raised and lowered by the chains attached and in the middle of the castle there is a trap door that falls down to imprison unwanted intruders) Enjoy guys and let me know what you think! The main focus of this build was the large waterfall, which features a new waterfall technique (more info on that later in this post). The small tower doesn't have an interior as there wasn't space for one with the SNOT design, but the larger towers do and the whole build opens up to reveal tunnels, rooms, and a stairway created by the dwarves. Credit for the snow on the bushes design goes to Brother Steven. Credit for the slope corners of the lower tower goes to Daniel Church. The Fossgard Falls are some of the most famous waterfalls in Historica. The dwarves of Fossgard have many tunnels and fortresses built around these falls, but are willing to allow sightseers from any of the guilds to come enjoy the falls' splendour: Left tower interior: Right tower interior: The waterfall design is quite simple, it uses mainly 3 pieces: clear 1x2 bricks, clear 1x2 plates, and clear 1x1 round plates. Using those pieces you build a wall 2 studs thick in front of white bricks. You use the white bricks to define the shape of the fall, for mine I used 6 studs as the width for the center of the fall, then stepped back a stud and did 4 studs wide on either side of the 6 studs, then stepped back another stud and did 2 studs wide on the outside edges of the 4 stud sections. While building the wall of clear, you attach 1x2 plates so that they stick out one stud from the rest of the wall every so often, and you put 1x1 round plates or cheese slopes on top of the protruding edge of the 1x2 plate. Also as you build the wall every three or four brick layers, you step the whole fall back a stud by moving the white bricks back one stud then keeping the clear wall in front only two studs thick. These two pictures should help show what I mean. This one shows the use of 1x2 plates and 1x1 round plates or cheese slopes in the waterfall: This picture shows how the fall steps back: Hopefully that long-winded description makes sense There are more pictures here: link Any Comments/Criticism greatly appreciated

Sir Infernum, the warriors of Arcium, and the warriors of Rascliff Castle trek to Proudrock Fortress, where they are besieged by the Hand. Sir Infernum, the lord of Rascliff Castle, and a ranger watch the battle from the tower, while warriors man the crossbows. The Hand charges the door. Charge! Love this pic! Bad interior shot. Really like the table thing with bows and quiver. Lower level. Block the door! Note the door. Figless. I like it better like this. Wall. Love the damaged parts. Tree-less? I really love how this turned out. I think it shows how much I've improved as a builder over the last few months. Hope you like it!

Well here's my build for Category B of Challenge I. The fortress has a full interior and all the doors/drawbridge/trapdoor work. The lava is lit in several spots. Legonardo inspired the roof of the fortress, while kris_kelvin and DR Church inspired the fortress itself. Also Captain Beerbeard suggested lighting the lava I'd like to receive UoP credit for: roofing (one of three techniques) [Architecture], extreme environments [Landscape Design], life in Nocturnus [Anthropology], lighted builds [General Building]= 4 credits Denrith Fortress is the base of operations for the pack under Gavin's leadership. Denrith provides a secure place of retreat after robbing passers by, or more recently after attacks on the Black Spire. Gavin views the Black Spire as a threat to 'business' and thus all his efforts are now spent trying to bring about ruin for the Black Spire. The dungeon in Fenrith has held many kinds of prisoners over the years, but now it holds one Hand of Corruption soldier who the pack is interrogating for information about the Black Spire so that they can plan their next attack.
