An unnatural calm has fallen over the Brick Seas. Sailing ships lie in harbour, pitch dripping from their rigging under the pitiless sun. Trade has ground to a virtual halt, with only galleys plying their way along the coasts, their rowers spurred by the incessant beating of the drum. Richard Walton, smuggler, has been trapped in Bastion by the lack of wind. He sits on the dock... and fishes. Robert: Hello Brother. How are they biting? I've brought you something to drink. Richard: Ahh, Robert. How very kind. How's business? Robert: For now, it's wonderful. The denizens of Bastion have little to do but eat and drink. But I fear they will soon run out of money, and there's precious few in this town to whom I'd extend credit. I can't help but notice the frigate moored across from you. Has the Corrington Navy come to haul us all off to jail? Richard: No such luck. I hear Corrington is cool and windy this time of year. No - I forget you're new here - she's the Nemesis. She's been under construction in the yard here for the last few months. She was delayed when Hurricane Stepho hit - the whole yard was washed out - but she's complete now. They just warped her over from the sheer hulk this morning. Now she's being provisioned. They must know something about this weather that I don't. Robert: So you're telling me that the Sea Rats have built a frigate? Don't you think that will cause some... shall we say... consternation among the other powers? The occasional smuggling and high seas robbery is one thing, but with a ship like that, no merchant will be safe. The Sea Rats will never be able to pass her off as commerce protection or whatever the latest excuse is. Richard: I don't know what they think. It can't come as any surprise to them. Everyone in Bastion knows - they've been building her openly with no real attempt at secrecy. If the intelligence services of the great powers are worth anything, they already know about her. What nobody knows is who has commissioned her. It seems like whoever is bankrolling her doesn't want anyone to know who they are. Probably so they won't risk arrest once she starts snapping up ships left and right. Even Phineas Studdington, the designer, doesn't know who is paying him. Robert: Phineas Studdington? The disgraced Corrington shipwright? Richard: The very same. He couldn't get a job in any reputable town after that incident with that Lord's daughter, but now he's here and he'll build for anyone who can pay. Robert: Well. All I can say - it's going to be a very interesting trade season. Assuming we ever get some wind, that is. Here are the real pictures with no set dressing. I have to admit I have a lot of trouble taking pictures of her. She's just too big for my crappy setup. One mini figure is included for scale (the elusive Phineas Studdington?)

171B Hey guys! I recently started building again, and, due to my love of all things sailing ships-related, I built a frigate. The HMS Merlin is a 20 Gun (counting top-deck cannon), 2 Mast Frigate. She has a modular top deck and my attempt at rigging. This is my first build, and any positive feedback/criticism is welcome! Ship's Boat and Bell Her Bow Stern Her Brickbuilt Cannon Her Fearsome Crew! The Marines: Top Deck Removable to Reveal Gundeck: The Rigging/Sails: Thanks for taking a look

[pid][/pid] 158D This being my first post, coming out of a Dark Age, I present His Majesty's Warship, The Whisper. She is a 16 gun, 2 mast, fast frigate. Her crew totals 15 sailors, 5 marines, and 2 officers. She is a 3 deck ship, with fully accessible Gun deck, Gallery, Captain's Cabin, and working capstan. more photos here: Thanks very much everyone, criticism is most definitely welcome! 166D Ahoy, time for a more serious attempt to build a ship: This is the HMS Jupiter (3rd generation). The model is loosely based on the HMS Diana (many non-lego models seem to be around - check out this e.g. http://www.modelship...Diana_I_eng.htm) So, we have the captain: ... and his crew (with many custom cannons)... There she is sailing away: Some different custom cannons on deck: ... not to forget Jupiter himself: .. and one of two custom carronades: The ship is built in a modular way: For some strange reason Emmet found his way onboard but he found himself equally terrified by a crew member and by the ship's goat. (Oh, no monkey on this one) This is a joint collaboration of me and my son and we are both happy and proud about the result. Please send your comments! (Actually, the HMS Jupiter does not look so yellow in reality. I still need to convince my photo editing program to produce something decent... )

Ok, since LEGO came out with some of those wide boat hulls in a color I could use for my good-guy factions, I decided to take another whack at my Kestrel/John Gotti class frigates, and I'm rather pleased with the results: Hawkwing Port by Hikaro Takayama, on Flickr Of course, the updated data for Jayne's Fighting Ships: Data: FF-03, Kestrel Class Frigate, Manufactured by BFG Industries in Philadelphia, PA as part of a joint Naval design/construction project with the Republic of New Jersey, Corleone Shipyards, LTD. Launch Date: 2089 Current CO: Lt. Commander Honor S. Harrington, Federal Republic of America Navy Armament: Guns: Two 3" (76mm) OTO Melera Super Rapid naval cannons, two aft-mounted BA-Industries MG-3/42 machineguns (7.62 NATO) and three bridge-wing mounted BA Industries Lewis-Lexington Heavy machineguns (.50 BMG). Missiles: Two MK-75 quad medium-range Merculite Multipurpose Missile (MMM) launchers with an effective range of 200 Nautical miles. Energy Weapons: Two MK-2 Mod 1 "Hoplite" Close-in Weapons System utilizing a self-contained search/track scanners and dual 25mm pulse-laser cannons primarily for point defense against missiles, aircraft and speedboats. Torpedoes: Two MK-50 sonar-guided long-range heavy anti-ship torpedoes. Propulsion: Twin John Reed 12-cylinder 1500 HP bio-diesel engines powering water jets that give the ship a cruising speed of about 47 Knots. Notes: The Federal Republic of America version of this ship differs from the original Republic of New Jersey John Gotti-class guided missile frigates in that it has the BFG Industries MK-98 Fire Control Radar/Neutrino Scanner as opposed to the Corleone Shipyards Target Acquisition System (TAS) Mark-7 as well as having an additional 76mm OTO Melera naval gun instead of the short-range "Screaming Mimi" missile turret aft (hence why the John Gotti Class gets the "G" in its Hull Classification Code and the Kestrel Class doesn't) Both Classes have a commonly available DRS6D Furuno Commercial Navigation radar (for both standard navigation and deceptive tactics to fool enemy ships into thinking the frigate is a mere fishing vessel or tramp freighter) and the PRC-99 directional HF communications array. Hawkwing Starboard by Hikaro Takayama, on Flickr I also modified the torpedoes (removed one of the 2x2 round bricks, shortening them slightly, and making them look a lot better as well, IMO). Hawkwing Stern View by Hikaro Takayama, on Flickr I made some MAJOR improvements to the antenna mast as well: It now LOOKS more like a proper Military Vessel's radar/antenna mast. I also added the two automated twin-laser turrets to give the ship better AA defense capabilities. Hawkwing Bow View by Hikaro Takayama, on Flickr I also added an additional 2 Merculite missiles to each side, bringing the total number up to 8, and it looks better to boot! Updated Bridge Interior by Hikaro Takayama, on Flickr Finally, not only was I able to make the ship look better by lengthening the bridge/01 level (and using the ship windows from the Coast Guard Patrol set), but I could add a console for the Navigation/Communications officer as well. I hope you guys like this new version. As soon as I get some of the PAB parts in, I'll be doing the RNJS Tony Soprano as well. As for the blue Police Boat hulls I was previously using... Well, I've got plans to use them for the Lone Star Republic's River-Class Corvettes. ;)

[pid][/pid] 147A Hi, I'm very happy to be able to present my latest ship which is possibly something like a frigate. You can find some more pictures here: http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=5801281 http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=5801279 Working title for the ship is "The Seven-and-a-half-Seas". Of course, it would look a bit better if I could do my own rigging like Tobiasz and others (respect!). Yours Captain Braunsfeld

Pennyroyal-class Frigate by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Pennyroyal-class Frigate by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Pennyroyal-class Frigate by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Pennyroyal-class Frigate by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Pennyroyal-class Frigate by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Pennyroyal-class Aft by skapunkplaything, on Flickr Modern space-based navies strive to find a balance between starfighters and capital ships. Unlike with the BB-22, which was meant as an anti-fighter platform, the British Royal Navy designed a Frigate capable of engaging other capital ships of similar and larger sizes. Armed with two underslung anti-fighter flak cannons to combat fightercraft, the Pennyroyal relies on it's three dual-cannon turrets to deal damage against similar-sized craft. Thin and tall, with two engines for thrust and two to help manoeuvre around, the Pennyroyal is mobile and reasonably nimble. Although large at 160m, the ship can last for some time without resupply, and is a frequent sight patrolling colonies and trade routes on the galactic rim. Few pirate raiders can last a pound-for-pound tussle with the Pennyroyal, which have made it a firm favourite amongst it's crewmen. However, with no fighter compliment or missile loadout to speak of, the ship can be overwhelmed by many small craft. Crew: 63. Armament: 2 x flak turrets. 1 x double plasma turret. 2 x STS cannons. Computer: Rolls Royce X-31.

Greetings! Finally finished my Bluecoat frigate. Don't have a name yet - that's proving to be difficult to settle on, but I have some ideas. I based her on plans and paintings of French frigates from the mid-18th Century, and the build owes a LOT to the "Build A Frigate" tutorial, as well as quite a few gorgeous ships I've seen posted on this site, so thanks to everyone who posted pictures of your ships! Here is the overview. The ship is about 66cm tall and 87cm long, and is the largest ship I've built. Fully Rigged Ship, Three Masts 20B The figurehead is a little dull. I haven't settled on a name for the ship yet, so the figurehead probably will be changing. 2nd Battalion of Bluecoat Marines. The ship's launch. A Bluecoat infantry officer hitching a ride. The capstan does not work, but I'll probably change that soon. I kinda like the way the masts turned out, but even with reinforcing inside of them, they are way too fragile for the ship to be played with. Since my goal is always playability, I'll probably change the masts soon. I do enjoy making custom flags. Come on, now - I'm not the only ship builder here who likes croissants. It was not easy to get the tumblehome to line up with the part of the cabin that juts out, but I like the way it turned out. I really like the way the outside of the captain's cabin came together. I tried quite a few different looks before I finally found one I liked. And of course you know I'm going to have a binnacle. I love binnacles, but I don't like trying to build them. Deck comes off to expose the captain's cabin. Brunch is served. I wanted to do a tiled pattern for the cabin floor, but did not have enough pieces, so hardwood it is! I kind of like the way it looks. I might also change the ship's wheel. This one is okay, but I can do better. I don't think the ship's cook is as French as he claimed on his résumé. The ship's bell again - it was a little challenge to build it with a clapper, but I like the way it turned out. I haven't made the sails yet. I'm going to wait until I know whether or not I'm going to redesign the top masts, and I'm also going to make all the sails for all my ships at once. Thanks for looking! ~ Plaid Beard
