  1. Previously... New buildings and enterprises are going up in Elizabethville quite often these days. New settlers need to get to Lacryma and get established before the winter season sets in. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Townsend had arrived with the group of settlers that landed on May 20th. They had been working to build a house and a business for themselves since then. SAM_7499 by SilentWolf Legos, on Flickr SAM_7502 by SilentWolf Legos, on Flickr Mrs. Townsend had brought some unique equipment and supplies to the colony. She had realized that in a new settlement like this food could be a scarcity as the growing season comes to a close. As a lady with a green thumb, she brings knowledge of preservation of food. The common technique that she has worked with back in Eastern Halos. However, she had discovered a technique where she could preserve food without pickling. She placed vegetables or meat in a glass jar with a salt brine. The jars then have a rubber ring placed on it then a metal lid lightly screwed down. She then places the jars in a boiling pot of water. This creates a vacuum inside the glass jars creating a seal that keeps the food from going bad. She had attempted to promote this idea in Eastern Halos but the companies that already provided food for the masses didn't want to change the methods they had used for so long. Here in the frontier settlements, the need for food outweighed technique. She also has been experimenting with a sealed pot that put the jars under pressure. It had not yet been perfected but showed great promise. Mrs. Townsend had hired one of the native women to help her in learning about the edible foods on the island and the natives methods of food preservation. Together they with the occasional help of Mr. Townsend were preserving and storing various foods for the good of the settlement. The cellar was just starting to fill up. 2. Lord Alexander Prio had sent out a call for mercenaries to come and aid him in fighting a native uprising on the island. The WETEC decided to dispatch The Alexander with extra troops to aid Lord Prio. The mercenaries were paid for their work, and the WETEC received a plot of land upon which they could construct a residence. The Lord Prio soon after declared independence from his king and set up his own nation, The Grand Duchy of Prio. The WETEC decided to stay on the island and aid in the battle for independence as long as they were paid for their services. It also gave them an opportunity to test and refine the troops they were training on the island of Lacryma. Though they did not expect that the war would enter such a stalemate. The WETEC's commanders on the island are discussing options to hurry the war, as now two of the company's ships are tied up on the island and the Flying Colt is leaving soon. Commander Henry Austin, has called together the his commanders of the infantry, cavalry, and scouts to discuss future plans. The cavalry commander is just now arriving, and the other two are already in the secure Green Room. 3. Corrington, being the orderly country that it is, does not let its citizens go unrewarded for the services rendered to the crown. The need for more ships in the Sea of Storms had caused the Crown to call for companies and individuals to refit captured ships to prepare them to defend the nations shipping and settlements. Wolf's Equine, Trading, and Expedition Company had refitted four of these captured ships over the last several months including the HMS Hunter and HMS Bagg of Bolton. In gratitude for WETEC's services, the crown had granted them right's to two of the warships that had been captured in May. The first of these is setting sail. I introduce to you, the Don Obello. Formerly owned by a pirate who apparently had a desire for his ship to be extraordinarily fancy. Even with its flashy looks, the Don Obello was a very fast craft that should easily run down the average pirate. Boasting 16 cannons it would give even the larger ships in the Sea of Storms a sturdy battle. (If only the pirate had worked as hard at preparing his men for battle as he did at making his ship fancy it would have seized several merchant vessels rather than being seized.) The Don Obello is a 5LA as it is a warship.
  4. Elizabethville is holding its very first mayoral election today. The WETEC decided that Sergeant 2nd Lieutenant Bolton would not long be able to manage both the military and civilian aspects of this quickly growing settlement. In order to encourage continued cooperation and participation in the village, the company has allowed them to vote for someone from among their number to lead them for the next year. The people have brought various foods to share with each other while the votes are being tallied. The meal is looking quite delicious. Surprisingly, but with good reasoning due to the low numbers of settlers so far, the standard process of one vote per household has been replaced with a vote by each adult man and woman. The town had been working to create a cobblestone path through the settlement. So far it has only reached the end of the warehouse that Bolton added behind the dockmaster's house which was formerly the barracks. The warehouse holds all the important supplies that the settlement might need, as well as the trade goods that are being shipped from Lacryma to the old world. Ensign David has been smitten by the lovely Alexandra, and he has been practicing his bow and hat sweep all week. She is smiling so that is a good sign. Some of the kids received peppermints from Arlinsport. Maybe Nathaniel should pay attention to his little brother on where he should be fishing. This is not starting out as a good day for Gabriel Sudworth. In his attempt to impress the single girls, he stepped in the mud and helped his sister and sister-in-law around it via the narrow section of firm dirt between the ruts and the mud puddle. Apparently the center of the mud puddle was a little deeper than he expected!
  5. Second Lieutenant Bolton (for he was recently promoted due to his tremendous success at training the new Dragoons on Lacryma) has been working hard to make sure the newly established Elizabethville is properly defended and sustained. As the highest ranking military officer, he has the duty to erect a fortress of sorts for the defense of the city. He used the trees that were being cleared from the new home sites that were under construction. The wooden fort would not be able to sustain a siege by a well armed vessel, but it would provide a sufficient defense against any smaller sailing craft who attempted to do harm. Armed with a 24 pounder cannon and a 9 pounder, it could command all the waters approaching the bay. Second Lieutenant Bolton had already requested to receive infantry at the island as the Dragoons' training was not in stockade warfare. When in their dress uniform, the officers of the Dragoons were noted to be very flamboyant in their dress. Particularly in regard to the decorations on their hats. This morning they are preparing for the local election of the first Mayor of Elizabethville.
  6. Last month, Garvey boldly sailed out fleets of privateers and several set upon Corrington vessels. Admiral Mercedes' fleet had a run in with several of the Corrington vessels. This resulted in the capture of the Garvey vessel, Hunter, by the HMS Pandora. Being badly damaged in the battle the Pandora was sent for repairs and refitting of guns. Now as the month comes to a close she is sailing out of port with the HMS Bagg of Bolton to defend merchants against all such pirate and privateer attacks. HMS Hunter is commanded by the newly commissioned, Captain David Townsend. Previous Stories
  7. The Corrington warship, HMS Bull Shark, captured the pirate vessel, Bagg of Bolton, during last month's merchant runs. Due to the losses the empire suffered, Her Majesty has commissioned that some of the captures be refitted with all haste in order to defend the merchant fleets from the pirate scourge infesting the seas. The WETEC aided in outfitting several ships. HMS Bagg of Bolton was one such ship. Due to the need for haste, the ship was left with the cannons it was captured with even though the vessel would have been better fitted with smaller guns. Captain Bryon Belton was given command of the ship and assigned a suitable crew to man the ship and its guns. HMS Bagg of Bolton sailed out of harbor for the first time with the HMS Hunter which was also a captured ship. Previous builds
  8. The WETEC's largest ship the Golden Filly, while sailing its maiden journey, was set on by a fierce pirate named Gregory Decker. Fortunately, the Lady Jacqueline was able to attack Gregory Decker and seize some of his fleet. However, she was unable to rescue the Golden Filly and her crew. Gregory Decker furious over his losses wished to gain as much money as he could. He set up an auction for the Golden Filly, and sent a letter of ransom to WETEC for the crew who were still alive. They were waiting on a secluded island for a reply from their middleman. There is quite a lot of wildlife on this island. Previous stories.
  9. Captain William Chase had taken command of the HMS Whisper at the end of March with the mission of protecting the merchants sailing under the Corrington flag. The HMS Whisper's first month at sea was rather uneventful. However, during its second month it ran across some pirates attempting to seize merchant vessels. The Blind Jack attacked the Dancing Dogfish but Captain Chase brought his warship to bear and forced the pirates surrender. With the prize in tow, he sadly discovered that one of the other merchant flotillas had not been as fortunate. He was able to rescue some of the survivors of the ships, HMS Otter, The Morning Rose, and the Nightingale. Captain Chase was almost taken captive when a Garvey Privateer seized the vessel unexpectedly. However, the merchant vessel Belson came to the aid and was able to save him from the disgrace of losing his vessel to privateers. Back in port the Wolf's Equine, Trade, and Expedition Company, had to decide what to do with the newly captured Blind Jack. The loss of their long waited Golden Filly on her maiden journey had been a financial blow to the company. They decided to put the Blind Jack up for sale in order to raise funds for the various ventures presently underway. Fortunately, a good buyer, Captain Genaro, was found and a price negotiated. Micah is waiting for his arrival with the negotiated payment. Captain Genaro received a deed of ownership. He could then present it at the docks upon which he would be able to take command of the Blind Jack and deliver it wherever he desired. Previous Stories
  10. Backstory During the three months that Sergeant Anthony Bolton and his platoon of militia have been on the island they have been working on preparing the land for a new settlement. The WETEC partners had chosen a good location to found the new settlement and promised to send some settlers and more supplies to the area. Sergeant Bolton and his men were responsible for building some residences in the area as well as a dock for small boats. Since there are no great harbors on the island, all the ships have to anchor out and tender supplies and people in. Thus the dock needed was suitable for small vessels and rowboats. Today, May 20, 616, the Alexander has pulled into harbor with the first true settlers to the island straight from Wolfhaven. The Flying Colt was believed to be only a few days behind with more settlers from Belson. Among the ones arriving today was the family of Oliver Sudworth who is a widower. He formerly raised cattle on land he was renting in Wolfhaven. He has come to this new settlement so that he might have his own land for his own cattle. He is accompanied by his children. The eldest, Craig, is married to a redhead named Bridget. The second born is his daughter, Laurel. The youngest son is named Gabriel. Along with the settlers and supplies, the Alexander also brings word that Her Majesty has given an official charter to WETEC to found a settlement on this island that shall henceforth be called Lacryma. The WETEC has written up a charter for the settlement including rules of government and naming it, Elizabethville. (The company had settled on this name since two of the partners had the name among there heritage, and Micah of course finds it the best name for everything.)
  11. Read previous entries here. Sergeant Bolton has been busy negotiating with the Onondaga people for long term trade relationships. Chief Otetiani has responded the most favorably to Bolton's trade discussions and friendship though the overall perception among the natives has been favorable. One of the things Bolton has been learning is what the Onondaga people have to offer in trade. In the present, they have the ability to provide housing to the early settlers. They also have great knowledge of the agriculture that grows and the animals on the island. In the future, they wished to trade furs, bead jewelry, and meat with the Corlanders. The younger generation learning how to string beads. Some haven't quite gotten it. The Onondaga admire the horses. Preparing hides Local garden Cooking for the tribe Hunting party leaving while younger boys wave and girls play with cornhusk dolls. Second Overview Edit: Total brick count of 8256. It kept crashing once I got about half of the fences up so I had to delete one of the longhouses in order to help out. Though in the end I just had to work a few at a time and resave. The large renders took on average 24 hours each in POV Ray, but the smaller scenes I used Bluerender on and they would take 20 minutes tops.
  12. For the backstory read here particularly challenge 2. Sergeant Anthony Bolton and his platoon of militia were busy training the horses on the new ranch into war horses. They were also training themselves to become the first platoon of a company of light dragoons. In addition to those duties, they were tasked with both continuing good relations and establishing trade with the natives. So far things had been going well. On this occasion, Sergeant Bolton and one of his men, John Hollins, have been invited to the longhouse of one of the nearby chiefs. The event was a meeting of the chiefs of several villages to discuss trade and ongoing relations. Showing the wisdom that had earned him this post, Sergeant Bolton brought with him a gift of a sword and an ax for the local chief and as an indication of the goods they were capable of trading for the good of the area. The meeting included a delicious feast of apples, root vegetables and wild game cooked on spits over the fire. The women of the tribe were busy preparing the meal when the Sergeant and Hollins were ushered inside by the guards. The children were busy frolicking about trying to catch the frogs that were just now coming out of hibernation. The weather though warming up was still brisk so a small coal fire was warming the inside of the longhouse where the chiefs and elders were gathered around. Upon entering, Sergeant Bolton was pleased to note that several of the chiefs there had decided the Corrington headgear they had been gifted was the best headgear to wear. Relations were going well with these villages. Hopefully the ones further inland were also amicable toward the Corrington expedition.
  13. For the referenced backstories read here. The Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List may have calmly listed the capture of the war schooner, El Bellos, without emotion. However, the capture of such a fast pirate ship was heralded as a great distinction of the sea superiority of the Corrington Navy. Captain Henry Isaacson of the HMS Mars was invited around to many of the houses of influence in Corrington due to his capture of El Bellos. It was through these dinner invitations that Micah was able to speak with him. Micah was in Belson dealing with the settlement of his late father's estate. He ended up being seated across from the brave Captain. It was here that his nickname, Silent Wolf, became apparent as to its meaning. Normally a quiet man, Micah knew well when to interject himself into a conversation for the good of all present. Like a wolf's howl, his speech always was opportune. In this case, he interrupted the conversation when hearing Captain Isaacson mention that though the ship was captured it would need some repair before it could be sailed for Corrington. Though the crown wanted to do so, it already had several ships in shipyards being repaired and built. Micah interjected that a businessman such as himself might easily be able to get the ship repaired and outfitted before the end of the month. Since the Captain had the audience of those higher in command it was not long before Micah and his company received an offer of one Captain's commission and the honor of first capture if they might outfit this new ship before the end of the month. Micah immediately saw that the funds were delivered to the shipyard that was building his own schooner. He prompted them to haste by a promise of a bonus if both ships were done by the end of the month. Both ships set sail for Arlinsport, and on the 27th of April, 616, they both left the harbor to do a 20 mile maneuver to ensure that the ships, equipment, and crews were ready. George Knight was granted command of the ship and the captaincy bestowed by the crown. He stood upon the deck inspecting soldier and sailor alike. As a former mercenary, he was well versed in the art of war, and he was certain that this ship would sail swiftly and fight bravely for Her Majesty's honor. Fitted with sixteen 9 pounders, the ship was well armed. Two guns were fitted on the stern, while there were 7 on each side stretching the entire length of the ship. The troops were also well trained as was Captain Knight's custom. SAM_7391 SAM_7398 SAM_7397 SAM_7405 SAM_7394
  14. To read the backstory go here. One of the first things that Silent Wolf and his partners had done when they originally decided to set forth on an expedition together was commission a brand new ship from the best builder in Belson. Though they did not have the funds to fully pay for the vessel of their choice they did make a down payment with promise that they would pay more soon. After their return and with the secret discovery of gold, they were able to pay the balance of the ship as well as aid the crown in re-outfitting two captured ships. The HMS Whisper was able to sail out of port at the end of March. However, the Schooner they had requested for utmost speed and trading ability, and the war schooner the crown had seized both launched today, the 27th of April, 616. The recently formed Wolf's Equine, Trading, and Expedition Company, or Wolf's Horses for short, was the proud owner of the Golden Filly. The command of the ship on its maiden merchant voyage was granted to Arthur Kellogg. As a businessman and one of the partners, he would oversee all the merchant fleet of the company. Micah sailed with the Golden Filly from Belson back to Arlinsport. There they began equipping her to meet the rest of Corrington's Merchant Fleet. Micah and his fiancee Elizabeth, boarded the Golden Filly with one of the natives the company had brought back to Arlinsport. They then put her out 20 miles and ran a test inspection of the ship making sure all was ready. The soldiers and sailors were indeed ready. They sped over the water at incredible speeds as the company fluttered at the masthead. SAM_7420 SAM_7416 SAM_7415 SAM_7383
  15. There is a reason why the coat of arms of Elysabethtown is a "Lancer". Elysabethtown is well known for its regiment of dragoons stationed there. As horses are such an important part of life in the Eslandolan colony, the Horse Ranches are of significant importance. Just outside Elysabethtown, the Horse Ranch of Pierre de Fokker is located across a small river. Guarded 24/7 by MAESTRO soldiers against the unknown threats there possibly are. A commercial place selling the finest horses of Terra Versa! --- Note: as I never collected green plates and as I spent a large amount of brown bricks in my latest fort, I decided to build in LDD... Building with real bricks is way more easier! This will be licenced as Large Commerce property. C&C welcome!
  16. Charles was a man of meticulous detail. He kept detailed records of every horse owned by Lord Alexander of Wolfhaven. These records enabled him to decide which was the best combinations of stallions and mares to breed to get the perfect horses. Some horses were bred for calmness in order to be ridden by children or women. Others were bred for strength in order to pull plows and wagons. These horses are coming into high demand in the new settlements. Recently, though they had been increasing their efforts to breed war horses. The goal is to create a horse that is steady on its feet and that exhibits the courage that prevents them from scaring amid battle sounds and smells. They will be very valuable should they encounter a hostile nation behind the line or if their becomes a conflict with former enemies. The main office has become established in Arlinsport on Amelia street a few blocks down from the Coyle Shipping Company. The Arlinsport location was chosen due to the vastness of land nearby enabling them to raise their horses. Today Charles has a customer in the office who is looking to buy a good pair of plow horses. His young apprentice, Gregory, was sent up to find the records for the pair that the customer was considering to buy. They were in the middle of their transaction when a messenger entered bearing a letter addressed to Micah of Wolfhaven, the son of Lord Alexander. When he was informed that Micah was not yet at the office this morning, he demanded that it must be delivered to Micah at once. The letter's seal also begged for urgency in delivery. Gregory was immediately tasked with running the letter next door to the home that Micah resided in when he was in town. 17. Hidden away on a remote island is a so far undisclosed new settlement. Micah and his partners have founded a horse ranch there with the intention of raising military horses for future exploration in the newly discovered lands. They also reason that if war breaks out the horses will be a deciding factor in battle. They have also discovered that the natives of the islands will be willing to trade goods and services for access to these fine mounted steeds. They know though with the present climate and rush for discovery, the law does not always reach as far into the sea of storms as one might hope. In order to guarantee the safety of their venture, they have built some basic fortifications. The thatch roofed watch tower serves as a overlook both to the land and sea. It also enables accurate measurements for the aiming of the two 12 pounder cannons left behind to defend against any attack whether by land or by sea. A small force of militiamen, led by Sergeant Anthony Bolton, have been left in charge of protecting the horses, as well as operating the every day aspects of the ranch. They are also training to become a new mounted light dragoon unit ready for service for her majesty when she might call. Today one of the natives has stopped by to see what horse might be available for his purchase. Other than that all has been calm. Little did they know that danger lurked nearby. 18. To review previous builds, check out this link, or to specifically follow Elizabethville, read here. The core of the WETEC is their extensive horse ranches and the sales of the best steeds anywhere. Lacryma has become the new headquarters with the wide open plains suitable for large herds of horses to be raised and trained. Though Micah owns the horse business, with the other four holding a share of the company, it was his father's vision that made their ventures profitable. Alexander of Wolfhaven, rest his soul, was an avid horsemen who bought and bred the best horses he could find. In his honor, Micah had commissioned a marble statue from Belson. Upon its completion, Micah had it loaded upon the companies newest ship, the captured war brig Soupfish. They sailed straight from Belson to Elizabethville. There the statue was placed upon the pedestal built for it. The dedication ceremony consisted of a military parade of all the troops who are being trained on Lacryma, as well as the 12 marines from the Soupfish. The cavalry are expected to be deployed soon to Prio to help end the stalemate that has taken place over the last several months. The divisions are mounted and ready for combat when called.
  19. Elizabethville has been growing in leaps and bounds. The efforts of the WETEC in enticing new settlers to the settlement has been paying off. They have seen an influx of people which has necessitated various industries and services. As any good Corrie would know, education was the key to progressing in the world. With this in mind, Micah had convinced Aaron Jenkins to settle in Elizabethville, and found its very first school. Due to the work needed to be done to settle the land, the class time is in the evenings. Schoolmaster Jenkins has set up a small classroom in the front of his house. During the day time, he has taken up his favorite hobby the most important discipline of recording the happenings of the present so that history will be preserved for the future. He has been several works in progress, including a history of the Corrington Empire. However, his newest work is tentatively titled A History of the Corrington Settlement on the Untamed Island of Lacryma in the Sea of Thieves and the Relations with the Natives There. (He is after all a true historian who would never use few words when more would suffice.) He intends to use this book in five years to teach the younger children. Today, he has been writing about the agriculture that has been taking place on the island. Feel free to open the pages of the history of Lacryma. Notes: This is going to be licensed as a large education build. The book was built as an entry to the Texas State Fair. The books measures 57x38 studs (just under 18x12 inches) with a height of 12 inches. This is by far my largest physical build. The log cabin was the second version attempted which proved far stabler than the one used in Those Smelly Pig Farmers... Oh Bacon! Here is an overview shot of the book. As always, complements, criticism, and suggestions for improvement are welcome.
  20. If you are old enough you may have owned this toy. I loved this as I was a little child but my mother did not buy me this (LEGO neither, of course). Since then, this toy ran out of my memory until last Saturday I discovered it in a toy museum. Now I have the money to buy this toy but nowhere I can buy... The only alternative, perhaps, is to build this. As expected, it brings lots of joy to my kids. Video:
  21. This MOC was built by my 12 year old brother. He's very happy with how this build turned out, there are full interiors in the buildings too. The dragon that Kendrick and Basil had heard about was ravaging the countryside. Targeting no specific kingdom his attacks were feared by all: More pictures can be seen here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=543185 He would appreciate any C&C
  22. Actual set, or just Western parts pack? We're looking at… Set Title: Getaway Glider Set #: 70800 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 104 Minifigures: 3 Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 13 Browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION This set always looked enticing. Not because the glider was great, but because the western minifigures looked terrific, it comes with a horse, and there are some neat rare parts like the cow horns and chicken in metallic. So is this anything more than a minifigure and parts pack? Let's see! BOX The box is small and boxy, with a nice western background. It's a small set, so what you see is what you get. And what you see looks enticing. On the back it seems that the glider is true to its name; it helped Emmet get away. But for some reason the robots ditched their weapons. The top gives us our character names - it seems the sheriff is trying to fool people about his mechanical identity, while the deputy doesn't care much. INSTRUCTIONS The instruction manual is small and comes folded over to fit in the box, both of which you'd probably expect. Plain color scheme, easy to follow, yada yada. Apparently I didn't take a picture of the sticker sheet, but you'll be able to see the four stickers on the finished model. MINIFIGURES As it often happens in small sets, the minifigures are a real highlight. The two western figures are terrific - the sheriff has an awesome new hat mould with extra-folded sides, and a wonderful new gigantic mustache piece that goes around his neck, like most beards. His torso and legs are also wonderful. The deputy also has terrific western printing without any grey skin showing, so it can easily be used for human minifigures. He features the Lone Ranger-style hat, exclusively in brown. Both robots also feature exclusive faces, which help diversify the evil bots across this line. I found it interesting that LEGO reverted to the old pistol mould (as opposed to the megabloks-ish Lone Ranger one), but it's great, since the old mould is really much better. The deputy has the new robot gun that appears in this line, a nice new addition to the LEGO weapons arsenal. Everybody has some appropriate back printing as well. EXTRA PARTS The extra parts are actually worth noting in this set because you get an extra cow horn (and this is only its second and appearance), and an EXTRA MUSTACHE! That's right, an EXTRA MUSTACHE! I was truly thrilled to see this. SET - HORSE & CACTUS In my opinion, one can never have too many horses. The more people you can mount on rides for a MOC, the better. So it's great to get horses in small sets, as that makes them easier to build up in great number. As usual, this one comes with bricks to "make it nude" and a saddle for the sheriff. The cactus is a cute little build, and green is always a desirable color, so I like it. SET - GLIDER Now for the "meat" of the set: the glider. Honestly, it's kind of cool looking, but I think most AFOLs would agree that the parts are more interesting than their sum. I mean, we're talking about five of the new 1x2 slope in dark brown, two of the new clip with hole for rod pieces in grey, two cattle horns, a dark brown barrel, and a metallic chicken. That's some great stuff for a small set. Even the four stickers are useful for western builders. I can't help feeling that this set was actually made for AFOLs craving some western stuff to help build western MOCs. I'm sure it wasn't actually, but it kind of feels like that with all the great parts that are worked in. Not much to see from the back. Plain and simple backside. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION Terrific minifigures and a terrific small parts selection for a low price. Need I say more? If you like western at all, go buy this set! It's that simple.
  23. Everything may be better with ninjas, but I don't think this one is too happy about having to muck out the stable. Hope you like it. The sides are purposely left open, as the inspiration for this is a row of stables. Say 6 or so side by side, with the end ones having closed walls on their outer side. I think he missed a spot.
