For the first time in about 5 years I am building a Technic set, the 24 Hours Race Car - 42039. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed building Technic sets. In 2008 when I started LEGO again I was building mostly NXT constructions and Technic sets. The last Technic set I built was the 8258 Crane Truck. Wow! That was a great set. Then I discovered the Cafe Corner and I was seduced away from Technic by Modular buildings. Then for the next 5 years I mostly bought and built modular buildings, Winter Village, an occasional Star Wars set and a random selection of other themes, then Monster a Fighters mostly for Halloween. Several years ago I even sold many of my Technic sets... I had an unopened Crane Truck, a front loader and an 8043... All still in box, I was convinced that I was done with Technic, so they were sold. I even sold a a Crane Truck and Off Roader that I had built. The one I miss the most is the Crane Truck. I don't want to own it, I just want to build it. I have quite a few a Technic parts, and I recently bought the 42009, 42042, 42037 and the 42039. I must have enough parts to build the Crane a Truck, maybe not in the proper colors, but I just to build and disassemble it anyway so it doesn't matter. Who else has been seduced away from one LEGO theme by another LEGO theme only to later find that they missed their original theme? Are you now building in the theme you "left for good"? Or are you still having an affair with a new LEGO theme? Well now I am going to get a balance between Technic, Modular Buildings, Winter Village and whatever other short term LEGO affair comes along. The New Century Corner, a display of five modular houses inspired by early 1900s architecture which I love. This was built for a LUG collaborative modular town in Model Expo 2016 that took place couple of weeks ago. From left to right: House of Two Whistling Geezers, House of Two Sisters, House of the Bat-Lord and Three Sinners, The House of Secret Society of Aviation, The House of Golden Frogs. The houses were built by first tablescrapping some interesting bits and the creating the rest of the building around them. That's what I usually do, anyway. The first of the houses (Two Sisters) was built in last November and the last (Bat-lord and sinners) was finished couple of week before the event. I might expand this to a whole block in the future, with four corner modulars and several houses between them. More pictures and talk on the blog.

After highlighting several of the buildings in the strip mall we thought we should post up a few shots of the whole strip mall together. The mall is situated around what will be the Main Street Plaza Hotel and since the hotel is obviously not done the mall as a whole has a few more pieces that need to be put into place but only after the hotel is up. Just making excuses for the unfinished nature of the layout area. For more feel free to check out our Flickr feed.

Hello All, I've kinda tried to go out of the norm and try to give an in-depth introduction about my passion for Lego. My name is Dan, and i'm just starting to get back into Lego. After a lull of around 9 years. I stopped buying and assembling Lego as a teenager. And have recently started picking it back up again. I'm a huge modular building fan and love how so many different existing parts can be used to create intrinsic and delicate elements. I guess Lego has helped shape my career in construction and also made me come back to this incredible hobby. I became a big watch collector but have stepped away from it in the hope my childhood/teen hobby can reinvigorate my imagination and my roots of Lego instilled in myself. I'm based in Sydney, Australia. So shout out to anyone located nearby! What attracted me to Eurobricks? I quite like the staff structure and hope one day i can move up the hierarchy. Heres to a new beginning and a 2nd chance with Lego. P.S Please be kind as i'm not very new with the terms and only just starting to pick them up!

Hi! I recently bought and built my first modular building. I chose the Pet Shop for a number of reasons; I prefer residential buildings to corporate or municipal ones, I loved the vibrant colors, detailed interior and assymetrical design. Overall it was a really pleasant build. Now I am ready to go for the next building and I am having a hard time choosing which one. The two modulars I like most judging from pictures only are unfortunately Green Grocer and Café Corner which are not available anymore (and I'm not going to pay $500+ for a used or brick linked set). None of the other buildings are really appealing to me thematically, I would actually prefer another residential building. Going by looks, I guess the GE is my #1 choice. However, the build seems a bit repetetive as the second and third floor are almost identical. Also, the interior is lacking (which I could MOC I suppose). Now I'm starting to think that maybe I should build my own residentail building instead, or someone else's MOC. If so, which of the current buildings would be the best for parts? Thanks for any input, Björn

My studio cabints, desk and shelves are supposed to be installed next. Now I am trying to decide which modular to build to inaugurate my studio. I have alredy decided that he first build will be a modular. I have in my inventory four (4) to choose from... The Fire Brigade, The Pet Shop, The Town Hall and The Palace Cinema. Of those four, which did you have the most fun building and why? Thanks, Andy D P. S. The Cafe Corner, Green Grocer and the Grand Emporium are built and waiting for a space on the shelves.

So, I'm not much of a poster here, but for once I've had a productive week in terms of MOC'ing, or rather designing such in MLCad. So, I figured I'd share my designs here as well. Sadly, they all lack proper interiors such as furniture, curtains and whatnot, but I figured I'd put all that in once they are done IRB. First up is one I designed way back in November, after a spurt of inspiration at a local event; Mocca House. The two shops at ground level are meant to be a pair of competing coffee-bars, which are both accessed from the central corridor. From here entrance to the central staircase is also possible, with a single, large appartment at each floor. For me the modular building series is all about unorthodox building techniques, or challenging oneself to certain limits, and as easily seen on the second picture, the challenge here was to place the walls at an odd angle, in this case nine degrees, and keep it consistent all the way up to the top floor. The next one up is a building I've simply named Cream Flats, because of the tan color. This is more a planned re-use of parts for a trio of buildings I've already built, that I'm not satisfied with (lacking details, way to boxy design etc.), plus attempting to use basic colors as well. Middle floor is repeatable, meaning I can build several identical ones and they will all stack together without problems. I was experimenting with tile-patterns for the interior - with different colors, those might stay. Shops at ground floor are at the moment planned to be a florist and a... Well, I'm not sure. Something. And finally, a design that I started on today, and which ended up very different from how I had planned it. Still, I'm very pleased with: Chocolate Corner. The initial idea was to somehow integrate this piece into a modern corner building design, and as the design progressed, it was kinda left out, and ended up looking like a much more classic and older building than what was intended. The ground floor is planned to house a confectionary, and the building's colors are themselves supposed to mimic the different variations of chocolate. Again, there's not much of an interior other than inner doors and walls, and a staircase leading up to the two appartments. I've got a few more pictures on my Flickr-account, in case anybody wants to have a closer look. Other than that, what do you think? Edit: Make that a quartet! Here's a more recent building; Bianca's Bikes. It's a simple, lime green box, with a bike-shop at ground level, but I'm pleased with the result. It's heavily inspired by AlienCat's Harry Hardware Store, but I just couldn't keep myself away from designing something similar. The wall technique is the same as on Mocca Corner, but here it's far more visible how it works. I've tested using the 3x12 wing plates as I've done here in this model, and it's a fully viable building technique. The gap between the floor and the wall closes nicely without any gaping holes or stressing the bricks.

This time I went for a different approach in modular building. Heavily inspired by the Haunted House, I wanted to create a stand-alone building with garden. From the start of the project, I was working in parallel on both of the houses, hence I am presenting them together. At the back of the house, there's lots of space that wasn't filled with details. The plan is to build a railway track in the back for the town layout of our LUG's upcoming exhibition. However, I wanted to add details to the back to see more life in town. There's a small barbecue at the back of the grey house, and a small siting area with wooden table and benches. The houses were built in similar style. It's obvious the sand green one is a MOD of Haunted House, while the grey one followed in style. My favourite details of both houses are the entrances. It's obvious, again, they were made by the same 'architect'. Both of the houses were made in modular fashion. The floors can be lifted to see furnished interiors. To start with the sand green house, there's a lovely corner just under the roof, in the bedroom actually, where the floor is in different levels, to make an easier access to the window, as well as to create a sitting area or just to make room for extra decorations. In the middle floor, there's a reading corner, to enjoy afternoons with a great book and relaxing in a quiet space. The other side of the floor is a bathroom - probably the most challenging build in the house. As it's crammed in a tight space, there's not much room for details. It has the basics (a bath, toilet and a sink) and a few pinkish decorations - it's a girls bathroom. The ground floor is the main area, there's a kitchen partly hidden under the stairs, and on the opposite site is the dining area. I'm quite happy with the kitchen, as I tried a ''different'' look. It gets hard not to repeat yourself with details. The dining area is parallel to a sitting area with a small couch and TV. There's also large glass door to the side porch and a view of the garden. The garden is small, but green. Also, it's facing away from the neighbouring house, so it's a nice and quiet place to relax. On the side, the grey house is more lively, with both colours and life. There's a similar floor arangement, with kitchen, diner and living room on the ground floor. This time, a TV set is hidden under the stairs, and a nice view of the garden can be enjoyed from the couch. The terrace is more open, and is only partly covered by sun shades. From the terrace, the garden is easily accessible. The terrace itself is one of the two favourite parts of the house. My other favourite part of this house is the daybed on the middle floor. It's next to a large window to enjoy the view. It's easy to imagine myself lying there, reading a crime novel, enjoying a hot cup of tea and watching snow falling down (or just daydreaming). There's a bathroom on the middle floor as well, a small one, and similar in style to the bathroom of the sand green house. The top floor is modestly furnished. It's a bedroom, so there's not much to see. My favourite detail is the bed with a book shelf included, that was inspired by one of the Ikea's models. If interested, a few more pictures can be seen on my Flickr.
