  1. Quest for the Egg Part 1 Quest for the Egg Part 2 Intelligence Gathering: Ever since making their way into the central Rakath Mountains, Sdair Zuuree and Kynkayd Hernbolnd have had to backtrack to avoid patrols of Desert King forces. Their search for the home of the wraith elf Driz Urdon, to further their Quest for the Egg of the Armored Eagle Goddess, has been seriously impeded. According to Sali Dahlib, Driz Urdon had once been a Drow, but the map including the elf's home he sold them wasn't very accurate. Today, though, events will put them firmly on the path once again. --------------------------------------------- Sdair and Kynkayd had passed this dense mud hole the day before, and viewed the remains barely buried here with a blase that was usual among their kind. The Nestlands Clans don't bury their dead, but generally leave them for animals to feed upon, hopefully birds. Kynkayd made an off-handed comment about the uses of a place like this. That evening they came upon two Desert King soldiers, one young and one older (clearly an officer). Both were sound asleep, and with just a few drops of restorative (for drunkards) each was bound and carted off with ease. The Desert King soldiers would sleep through being buried up to their necks in the mud hole of the previous day. The soldiers' effects were inventoried, important maps and correspondence were kept for later viewing, and the remainder was left at the soldiers' campsite. It was mid day before the soldiers were awake enough to be interrogated. Sober now, these men could fully appreciate their predicament. "A' 'ight now, lad," Kynkayd drawled, "'ere's de sitchiashun. Yer gonna die. Dere's no helpin' dat. Iffin' ye tell us whats we wants ta know, we kill ya quick. Iffin' not, we leave ya here. Maybe ya die o' da heat wit no drink. Maybe ya die frum de animals. Maybe ya get lucky an' die frum sum rain floodin' dis hole. It could be days afore ye die, though, 'cuz no-un's goona know where ye are." Kynkayd underscored his point by scratching the young man's face. Kynkayd's blade. enchanted to inspire fear, had the lad panicking to the point of urination, darkening the soil around him. "Please, please, anything," the young man whined. The older man growled at the breaking of the younger. "The lad is a new recruit," the officer scoffed, "He can't give you much, and I won't break so easily." "Aye," Sdair replied, "That much is certain." Kynkayd's threats were utter falsehoods. He and Sdair had no intention of killing these men. The animals and elements wouldn't get the chance either. The ground being cool, and their headdresses intact, mitigated them dieing from heat, at least for today. There were no clouds in the sky, so rain was unlikely. Furthermore, the patrol these two were to meet up with should be passing through here just after dark. If the men had realized this, they could be yelling for help, but it wouldn't help much. The mountains surrounding this hollow spot would bounce the sound. While Kynkayd was getting the lad to talk, Sdair decided on a different tactic. He began singing a quite lewd song in green elvish. Not three bars in, the older soldier began chuckling. "Aye," Sdair stopped singing to say, "Ah thought so. Ye tried ta recruit de wraith elf. Ye failed, so ye get stuck wit de lad." "Alright," replied the older man, "I met with him. What of it?" "Ye've got a proper map," Sdair encouraged, "Ye tell me which of dese it is, an' ye get ta live ta go soldierin' another day." It took the old soldier several minutes to make up his mind, but he eventually replied, "Alright, it's the map done in red ink. But I don't think he'll talk to you any more than he would to me." "Dat's it den," Sdair exclaimed, "Eh, Kynkayd, we've got what we need. C'm on, it's time we be gettin' dis quest done proper. Ye can use de speakin' stone ta relay what ye learnt dis evenin'." As Sdair and Kynkayd were walking away the old soldier yelled, "Hey, aren't you going to let us live?" Sdair turned around, and walking backwards replied, "Aye, ye are. Ah left most of yer gear at yer camp wit an arrow pointin' dis way. Yer Desert King's patrol should be dere by mid-affernun. Iffin' dey're smart, dey'll be here jus' after dark. Later." Sdair and Kynkayd were finally on their way to the knowledge they needed to complete their quest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- More images: The look of the round stones made Sdair think there must have been some grand structure here once, possibly made by dwarves. The detail of the stone behind Kynkayd. Looks like some unlucky soul got buried the other way. -------------------------------------- CCC
