  1. The possibility of a plague is something Avalonia cannot afford, and one of the first measures taken was to set up road blocks at regular intervals to prevent scared villagers (scared of the plague or the drow, or both) from making matters worse. The roadblock at the ruined tower of Ker Tazal, near Calder, is not the most impressive. In fact, it could be said it is one of the worst, a simple ladder blocks the path. But it works. The soldiers do as they are told and question travellers, wear protective cloth that covers their mouth and nose, and also keep an eye out for drow. Anders and Paul, on duty today, have had a rather quiet morning with few travelers. Right now they have just stopped a man and a young girl, travelling with a dog. It does not look like they will be much trouble. He says his name is Arthur and they come from Brevis. They seem look honest folk, and healthy, even if a bit weary of a few days in the road, but orders are orders: they will have to wait here for a patrol and be taken to Calder.
  2. Aiding the Refugees Peter and his aunt Marian have been stopped by a blockade, put in place to hinder the spread of the plague. As Peter is still weak after his sickness, the Avalonian soldiers refuse to let them through afraid that he is ill with the plague. A Kaliphlin merchant helps them to persuade the soldiers so they can continue on their journey. It's a wonder what some Kaliphlin gold can do to make things go smoother in Avalonia. This is my Challenge II, category A entry for Team de Gothia. Previous entries in the same story: A Black Day House of Healing
  3. Searching for a Cure When Lasvor heard about the plague in Avalonia, he rushed into a town near the Mitgardian border. I physician friend of his lives there, who let Lasvor into his lab to help finding a cure for this terrible sickness. He's been working for weeks, doing countless experiments using blood and other body fluids from the patients. There are still many combination of herbs and other ingredients he hasn't tried yet, so maybe the liquid that is going to be condensed into the bottle will be the one...
  4. The Lighthouse of Barqa Situated on a small islet outside the mouth of the Arkbri river, this majestic lighthouse has guided the vessels entering the port of Barqa for centuries. Fuelled by refined Naphta, the smoke is usually barely visible. At the moment, all ports of Barqa are closed to general traffic and a quarentine put in place to stop the plague from spreading to Kaliphlin. Therefore unrefined black oil has been added to the fire to make a smoke signal indicating that all ships must hold and await permission to enter the harbor, after sufficient time that anyone with the plague on board either has died or recovered. The only exception is the lucky few to be admitted to the Hospital of the Black Brothers outside the city, who have persuaded the City Council of Barqa to allow them to accept as many as they can into their care. Gideon has brought his young protégé Elijah de Gothia to the lighthouse to watch the naval traffic. Integrated ligting made of 4x2 PF LEDs. (sorry for the bad photo quality with all the noise, the exposure time was 50 s to get this effect ) Closeup of the water, my first attempt at making water from loose round plates. This is my Challenge II, category C entry for Team de Gothia. I'd like to claim the following UoP credits for this build: Waves [Hydrology] Lighted Builds [General Building]
  5. Treating the Sick The Black Brothers are devoted to caring for the sick, and are among the finest healers in Historica. At their convent close to Barqa, the city council of Barqa has allowed them to take care of some of the victims of the Plague in Avalonia. No one promised that being treated would be pleasant Despite the Black Brothers being masters of healing, not everyone can be saved... There are still plenty of pharmaceutical supplies. Caring for the sick is hard work. This is my Challenge II, category B entry for Team de Gothia. I'd like to claim UoP credit for Interior Design [General Building].
