See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 The Green Dragon Inn Bustle at Treacleheim At the Gates of Budd-apest Rothgar and Constance made their way through the under-levels of Treacleheim. Constance was impressed with how much progress the dwarves had already made in clearing the rubble away and rebuilding the old city. Constance lost track of how many turns they made, but Rothgar seemed to know the route like the back of his hand, dwarven intuition it would seem. They finally ended up in front of a small monument where the dragon forged blade was being displayed. “This was built in remembrance of Dwalion, the first dwarf of Treacleheim to forge a bond with the dragons to enlist their assistance in forging weapons” explained Rothgar. “As you know, it has been many decades since the last dragon was willing to help forge blades. This may be the last in the city, and you are welcome to it. If we happen across any more I will be sure to inform the council at Dalig Ulv.” “One blade!” thought Constance, “What’s one blade going to do against the armies of the Algus!”

See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 The Green Dragon Inn It had been weeks since Wyndor had left Dalig Ulv on a quest to find a way to find a way to stop the Algus. Pjeter had his hands full running the city now that he was short 2 council members. Though having Rothgar and the dwarves back was a huge help as they were busy in their mines, foundries, lumber yards, and other businesses around the city. In addition to bringing more life to Dalig Ulv, a group of the dwarves had begun work on bringing Treacleheim back to life. After decades of being abandoned, most of the buildings were unlivable but being of dwarven construction it didn’t take much to make them habitable again. It was at one of the buildings not set inside the mountain that the dwarves had turned into a city hall of sorts that Natolyth, Chalin, Mattimeo and Constance found Rothgar. He was there talking about the future of both Dalig Ulv and Treacleheim with Pjeter. “The last letter we received from Wyndor and Valanice said they were on their way to Kaliphlin,” started Natolyth. “They have had little luck in finding information on how to defeat the Algus besides dragon-forged weapons, which we already knew about.” “That is what we feared, and what the elves where hoping when they agreed to the terms,” began Rothgar, “but surely you didn’t come out here just to give us an update.” “No,” began Chalin, “we’ve been taking stock of our weapons to see if there are any dragon-forged blades in our armory and we have found none. We were wondering if there were any that had been found in Treacleheim during the restoration process?” “You are in luck!” replied Rothgar, “I happened across at least one blade just the other day. I can take you to it now. Unfortunately I haven’t heard of any other blades being discovered, but perhaps if there is one, there will be more!”

Long ago in Treacleheim the Dwarves of Mitgardia used Ice Moles to dig their larger passageways for them. They were raised from birth by trainers and could be commanded with clicks and hoots. They are a rare sight in Mitgardia now. But some Dwarves still raise them and use them on the north side of the Mitgardian mountain range. More pictures on my flickr!

This flag was found on the path that runs along the ruins. We think the Blue Wolf Clan is involved.” “But this flag has a red border” answered Wyndor. “Couldn’t this be from a Wolfpack renegade? What am I missing?” “Well, at least with our interaction with them, the Blue Wolves seem to be called that not because of any standard or livery, but because of something that happened to their leader before he found them” said Pjeter. “Though mind you, most of our interactions with these ruffians has just been to see them fleeing from the scene. Stories circulate amongst the taverns here, but we don’t have many hard facts on them.” “Well,” continued Wyndor, “What do we know this time?” “Come with me and we’ll find out” was Pjeter’s reply. They set out eastward from Dålig Ulv towards the mountains and soon came to the outskirts of Treacleheim. Pjeter explained to Wyndor along the way that Treacleheim had once been as great a dwarven city as Omurtag but had been slowly abandoned over three decades ago for unknown reasons. When they got to the place where the flag had been found they stopped. “The farmer who brought this to me said he though he saw one of the ruffians running away from Bwali’s house” said Pjeter. “Is that what that small mound of rocks is?” asked Wyndor. They walked closer to the hut as Pjeter explained the history behind it. “Yes, Bwali the dwarf just showed up here one day and started taking different parts loose stone and rock from Treacleheim and made a small hut for himself. He wasn’t bothering anyone and no one bothered him about it so he just went along his way” explained Pjeter. “He would come into the city every now and then to sell strawberries, but that was about it.” They walked around to the front of the hut and found the body of Bwali, his eyes still open in shock. “What happened?” was all Wyndor could think to ask. “I don’t know laddie,” responded Pjeter, “But whatever it is we are going to need to figure it out before it happens to anyone else.”

Wyndor's Saga: See what happened prior to this: Returning Before leaving Dalig Ulv, Rothgar took time to visit the statue of The Laughing Dwarf found just outside Treacleheim. OoC: I really wanted to get a different feel for my statue than what had already been done. Let me know what you think of the result.

See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 No rest for the weary. As soon as Wyndor had returned home from settling things in Treacleheim, he received word from Pjeter. When the beacon of Dalig Ulv had been lit, Pjeter had expected help to come, what he hadn’t expected was the announcement that most of the guild leaders would be showing up in their town. With only a few days to prepare, the city cleaned itself up as best they could and began to welcome the important visitors. Lodging was arranged for the travelers in the largest, and best known inn of Dalig Ulv, The Green Dragon Inn. Wyndor personally welcomed the most important of the visitors including Elon Chorian, Glorfindel, and Steen. With the war coming to a close in Kaliphlin, many people felt the freedom to travel again, including a few important guilders from Nocturnus and Avalonia. Wyndor invited all the visitors to make themselves comfortable before they got down to discussing the business that had brought them all together. When beds were found, dinner was over, and old friends re-acquainted; Elon and the other guild elders caught Wyndor before he left for home. “Wyndor, I’m afraid we must detain you” he began. “I hope you’ve found your accommodations to your liking” said Wyndor who noticed that Steen looked quite unhappy. “Yes, the hospitality of Dalig Ulv is unrivaled. Unfortunately, I’ve asked to detain you for a less pleasant business” started Elon. “You see, these gentle-elves have come as more than just emissaries from Avalonia.” The elves just glared at Wyndor so Elon continued, “As you may have heard, certain clans among the dwarves of Mitgardia were found to have trespassed through the elvish territory of Avalonia against the express wishes of the council. These emissaries have brought word that the dwarves of Dalig Ulv were among those guilt parties who disobeyed the council. DeGothia has helped to confirm that these are facts and not elvish conjecture. Now, as a leader of Dalig Ulv and as the last human to have contact with the dwarves before they left there is a certain amount of responsibility on your shoulders right now.” “Please tell me,” interrupted Wyndor, “Is Rothgar okay?” Since the elves just continued to glare at Wyndor Elon continued explaining, “Yes, he and his men came to no harm while they were in Avalonia. They are being held in a prison not too far from the Mitgardian border.” “What can I do to free them?” asked Wyndor. “Please know that we are not saying you are guilty in any way” Elon said, seeming to direct the comment more at the elves than at Wyndor, “but it has been decided that if you will agree to be temporarily banished from Dalig Ulv and Mitgardia, Rothgar and his men will be freed.” Wyndor looked to Glorfindel for help. He hung his head and said, “I’m sorry Wyndor. This was not an easy decision for us to make. But the relationship and trust we have with the other guilds is a very important thing and everyone agreed that a break in that trust should require a reaction that shows dedication to upholding it. It was either this or allow the dwarves to face punishment by the elves, and we knew you wouldn’t want that.” “You’re right, I don’t” answered Wyndor. “You said ‘temporarily,’ when will I be allowed to return?” “As this is a punishment because of a the actions of certain members of our guild against another, we have agreed that an act that shows your dedication to protecting not just Mitgardia, but all guilds would be sufficient proof that restitution has been made” replied Elon. “Bring us a way to fight against the Algus and protect not just Mitgardia, but Avalonia and the other guilds too.” One of the elves finally opened his mouth to spit out, “Good luck, you would need a dragon to stop those beasts if the tales are true and a useful dragon hasn’t been seen for hundreds of years.” “I’m sure you’ll find something, and soon” said Steen. “We have faith in you Wyndor.” “You have a fortnight to get your affairs in order, and then you must leave Mitgardia” ended Elon. The other guild leaders touched Wyndor on the shoulder to show their support before they and the elves went back inside. Wydnor was left alone feeling that life was just not fair. OoC: Sorry, I know it's anticlimactic to the story, but I couldn't resist taking a group shot of all the sig-figs I made. I did not purposefully leave out those from Kaliphlin, though I guess it's fitting since their civil war is still going on. I also made a whole bunch of Kali figs awhile back and wanted to make those I hadn't yet. I'm sorry if I left anyone out who was hoping to be here. I tried to use mostly just my existing collection and couldn't make everyone.

With this spell we will wake them up with the knowledge of what has happened and the fact that we were the ones who freed them. That will convince them we are here to help them and will keep us from getting killed in some nasty ways. These aren’t creatures to talk things over first.” With that she turned her back and Leif and she and her sisters formed a ring around the Triad and started chanting. Leif, inpatient with it all and anxious to see all his hard work of giving away the dwarves secrets turn into power for himself didn’t notice three men rushing into the room until they were moving past him. Wyndor was about to cut off Edea’s head when Vincent yelled, “Wait! If you do that now with the spell unfinished, we could all die!” Wyndor halted in mid swing and brought his blade to a halt. Just then the chanting stopped and the three lifeless figures in the middle of the room started to stir. Edea and her sisters returned to normal and saw the intruders among them. Wyndor’s blade was at Edea’s neck, Mattimeo had a firm hold on Leif and Vincent was poised, watching the Triad. “No one move!” said Vincent. “They haven’t been fully released yet!” “Don’t even think about it Edea,” said Wyndor. “One false move from you or your sisters and you’ll pay the price.” Edea just laughed at him, “You think we didn’t prepare for this possibility? Now sisters!” Moving faster than Wyndor could see, Edea was outside his reach and within the circle. The Triad was most certainly awake and Edea’s sisters were summoning energy to attack them with. Wyndor and his friends looked like they were outnumbered and doomed when the Blue Wolves began to rush into the chamber! The fight grew fierce and bodies were flying about the room. Wyndor saw Valanice, Natolyth, Chalin and Liam join the fray. One of Edea’s sisters was the first to fall. Then the werewolf. Then Edea’s other sister. Then the vampire. Then the warlock. Then only Edea was left. “It’s over Edea!” said Wyndor. “We’ve beaten you!” “No!” she screamed. “This can’t be possible! The Triad should never have fallen to a group of weaklings!” “Looks like Dalig Ulv isn’t so weak after all,” said Mattimeo. “Unified, we have stood against this evil, and we have shown you that it can’t triumph here.” “I’ll never let you get out alive!” Edea screamed and then fire erupted all around her. Natolyth reacted the fastest, casting a spell that cut through Edea’s defense and felled her. The firestorm over, in the silence that ensued Vincent’s twang of his crossbow sounded ten times as loud as normal. The group turned to see Leif, a knife in hand and a bolt in his guts. The Blue Wolf he was about to attack dragged him out of the shadows. His life was quickly draining out of his body so Wyndor knew he didn’t have much time. “You, you were the one who was giving Edea the dwarves secrets!” accused Wyndor. “*cough* *cough* Yes, I befriended Rothgar and got him to trust me” Leif managed to get out around the blood. “But why?” asked Wyndor. “You haven’t tasted enough power yet Wyndor” he spat out. “Being a mere member of a city council is no kind of place for a man with my talents. I was meant to rule Mitgardia. The Triad and Edea could give me that power.” “I feel sorry for you” was all Wyndor could say. Leif looked at Wyndor with hatred in his eyes. “If it weren’t for you, and your sense of righteousness, I could have gotten what I deserved.” Then his eyes rolled back into his head. “I think you just did” said Liam. “He was the true monster here” said Vincent. “The rest of these creatures are foul, but he knew the people he was going to sacrifice, made friends with them, lived with them, and still he was willing to give them up for his own gain. My work here is done.” There seemed to be nothing left that needed to be said so Wyndor led the group out of the chamber. Treacleheim was cleansed.

Gather the men and meet me at Treacleheim.” “We will need Natolyth’s help too I think” civilization.f work dificult.se, ay awoken the Triad?"s the Triad, or all of Mitgardia could be under attack from both the Algadded Wyndor. He scribbled something a piece of spare parchment. “Take this to Pjeter, it will convince him that he should send help.” Wyndor handed the piece of parchment to the Blue Wolf and the man was off. The three travelers turned towards Treacleheim and hurried towards the abandoned dwarf city. They entered the city and descended to the lower levels. There they found another Blue Wolf who pointed out the direction Edea had gone. “Stay here and tell the rest of the men to join us as soon as they arrive” Mattimeo told the guard. They entered a large chamber with no visible way out other than the way they had entered. They walked towards the middle of the room as Mattimeo explained more about the Triad. “When the dwarves sealed them here in Treacleheim, they did so at great cost. They knew they would have to leave their city forever, least one of them get greedy and seek to re-awaken the Triad. They also couldn’t risk someone from outside finding out that three people of their power were able to be re-animated if you only knew where to find them. There is a lot of unity within Mitgardia, but there are still plenty of people who would be happy to watch it tear itself apart if they were allowed to be in power once the struggle was over. So the dwarves not only left their city, they hid the room where the Triad was sealed and they erased all knowledge of how to find it. Each dwarf was only left with a partial memory of the process so that no one of them could do it alone. It seems that Edea has been collecting those memories and now has the full knowledge.” They had looked all around the room but had found nothing. Mattimeo continued to wonder out loud. “This chamber is new, we’ve never seen it before, but there is no way the Triad and Edea could have left Treacleheim without our knowing about it. So what are we missing?” “If I may?” asked Vincent. “I’ve studied much dwarven lore and I think this room has a few secrets I can solve. There must have been much more to the process, but if Edea has indeed been here first, then perhaps she didn’t have time to reset all of the room, but only a few of the enchantments to keep unwanted guests, such as ourselves, out.” He started walking around the room and moved some of the objects. “See this shield?” he asked. “I’ve seen pictures of such shields and the design is supposed to be this way.” As soon as he moved it the group heard a shudder in the far wall. “I think we are getting somewhere” said Wyndor. “And these statues, they are of some of the ancient dwarven heroes, but their armaments are all wrong.” Vincent exchanged the dwarves’ items and a doorway appeared in the way. “And now for the hard part” Vincent said, “dealing with the monsters within.” Chanting was coming from the doorway and the three looked at each other. “Quick! We can’t wait for the others! We have to stop Edea!” shouted Mattimeo.

They had traveled with Beo and his family until they knew he would get away safely and then turned towards Mattimeo’s hideout. They stopped at a windmill near Dalig Ulv to catch their breath. “I know it seems like we have bigger things to worry about with the Algus on the move, but it will be weeks before their forces can move as far south as Dalig Ulv.” started Wyndor, “I need to know what’s happening in my city and I think it’s about time you told me what’s going on. Why are the dwarves being attacked?” “What do you know of Revelword?” asked Mattimeo. “Only what every Mitgardian knows, that he tried to take over Historica and destroyed many of our cities!” replied Wyndor. “Well, what most people don’t know is that he wasn’t alone in his efforts to take over Historica,” began Mattimeo. “There was a group of power hungry individuals who all were seeking the means to put themselves in control. Revelword was the craftiest of these people and sought to unify them all in their endeavor to overthrow the king. Most agreed with him that they could do more if they worked together. What they didn’t find out until it was too late, was that Revelword had only gathered them all in one place to make it easier to kill off the competition. The few who hadn’t gone alone with Revelword’s plan fled to distant areas of the guilds. Three of them ended up here, in Dalig Ulv where they promised the dwarves of Treacleheim great riches and power if they helped them in their pursuit of the throne of Mitgardia. These three, a warlock, a vampire, and a werewolf had agreed that taking over Cedrica was too much for them but they figured that taking over a single guild was within their grasp.” “So why isn’t Mitgardia ruled by this Triad?” asked Wyndor. “The dwarves who had at first been swayed by the Triad’s promises had a change of heart. But they couldn’t just kick the Triad out of Treacleheim, these were creatures of great power. So they got together their greatest mages and sealed the Triad within the city. The nature of the magic was fragile, such that if anyone disturbed the Triad’s resting place, they would be released. The dwarves, knowing that it was they who had made the first error in accepting the Triad’s proposal, left their great city, vowing to take its secret to their graves” explained Mattimeo. “Which it seems most of them have done” said Wyndor. “And if you haven’t been killing them, then that must mean that Edea has.” “Yes,” answered Mattimeo. “She has been quite meddlesome. When I found out that she was out to release the Triad, I had my men start following all the key dwarven leaders to protect their lives. Obviously we haven’t been doing a very good job of it.” “So,” began Wyndor, “How did Edea find out about the Triad?” “She studied under one of those who fled Revelword’s slaughter” answered Mattimeo. “The witch she studied under must have known about the Triad’s plans before they fled to Mitgardia and she to Nocturnus. What I haven’t been able to figure out is how she’s been able to get to the dwarves so easily. I’ve had my men watching them day and night yet every time she has managed to elude my men and get to the dwarves before they could stop her.” “Maybe she has a dwarf helping her?” inquired Wyndor. “Perhaps,” started Mattimeo. “But the dwarves are a close-knit race. It would take an exceptional amount of money to get one of them to turn on their own.” “Of maybe the promise of power?” asked Wyndor. “That could be,” thought Mattimeo. “But now we really must be going. We need to get to back to see if my men have been able to locate Edea. After that attack in the market, she and her sisters were spotted entering Treacleheim. I had done a thorough search of the city and couldn’t find the chamber where the Triad was sealed anywhere. But I fear with the knowledge she has gained from the dwarves she’s killed, she may be able to find it when I could not.” “Ok, so you are saying that we have to find Edea before she finds the Triad, or all of Mitgardia could be under attack from both the Algus and the Triad?” asked Wyndor. “Yes,” said Mattimeo “And what do we do if we get to Edea and she has already awoken the Triad?” Wyndor continued. “How do we take on Edea and these three creatures?” At that moment the door to the windmill opened and a dark stranger clad in red stepped out. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I couldn’t help overhearing your conversation” began the stranger. “My name is Vincent, and I specialize in hunting monsters and other unwanted villains. It sounds to me like you have a monster problem.” Mattimeo and Wyndor were a little startled, but Wyndor quickly responded, “We are in need of assistance with our ‘monster problem,’ as you put it. But who are you? It seems a little convenient that someone who has the skills you claim to have should be here right when we need him. How is that you come to be here and why would you be willing to help us?” “My story is a long and sad one” began Vincent, “I will not burden you with all its details now. I found it necessary to leave Nocturnus, where I am from originally, because it was becoming difficult to tell monster from friend. Makes my line of work difficult. I have made my way to Mitgardia because I have heard rumor of an evil approaching this land. I am willing to help you because I have experience with vampires, werewolves, and warlocks, and I imagine that you do not.” “It is true that we would be at a disadvantage facing the Triad,” said Wyndor, “But how do we know we can trust you?” “You can’t” was Vincent’s answer. “But maybe I can set your mind at ease. I know your brother, Natolyth. He and I were in Cedrica at the same time, staying at the Grand Griffon. He was studying the Drow and I was studying minotaurs in the libraries there. He spoke of his brother Wyndor, though I did not realize he had a brother name Mattimeo. I was actually on my way to see you when you stumbled across my path. I know Natolyth is not here to verify my story, but perhaps that will give you enough to trust me for now.” “Well, I know the farmer who owns this mill,” started Wyndor. “If he allowed you to stay here then he must have thought you meant no harm. That, and if what you say about meeting my brother is true, then it seems we have no choice but to ask for your help.” “Can you leave immediately?” interrupted Mattimeo. “Yes,” was Vincent’s reply. “I have nothing to pack. I travel light.” With that, the three travelers headed towards civilization. OoC: In case you were wondering, in the last couple of pictures, the windmill blades can turn without hitting either Vincent or the cart.
