I think words are a bit redundant here? I got to break a reddish brown brick. It was crispy like bread. I was a little sad because it was a printed brick so I didn't want to throw it away. Welcome aboard the little narrowboat! Hi everyone! Haven't been very active lately, but I do lurk . Anyway, after 2 years! I've finished another custom modular building, my thirteenth! This model began from wanting to have a modular that you can easily interact with. My models have rarely had much motion, so I wanted to have a go! I chose to build a lock because I love all kinds of infrastructure and because I could come with with a nice industrial cityscape, something I had wanted to build for a while. Coming up with a good layout was quite difficult because there are a few limiting factors. You need to connect to other modulars on either side with a continuous pavement, while having to go over the canal, leaving enough clearance for the boats and leaving space under for the mechanism. Finding a reliable and compact mechanism took a lot of work. I ended up with a design with design four vertical worm gears that activate an axle lift with bushes. It can get jammed from time to time, hence why the gears are easily accessible. Mechanism: If you want to take a closer look at it, I have the CAD uploaded to Mecabricks. I take suggestions as to how to make the mecahnism simpler, because it's currently quite gear-heavy. Interiors: The ground floor of the building has a little ticket shop in front and the exposed mechanism for the lock behind, so both minifigures and builders can access it! If you've seen my models previously, you know interiors is something I can struggle with, especially when I have too much room to work with. This is probably my favourite interior of mine. It's a cosy cinema, with a camera build I'm quite proud of. The grandpa and kid seem to be playing a Lego version of Casablanca. I wonder if it's a reference to anything... Finally, under the roof, there is a bit of a cluttered mess. This area is accessed via a retractable ladder from the cinema, so it's only natural things get forgotten up here! I quite like the candle build here. I've also always wanted to add cobwebs to a modular, but never had the space to do it! Architecturally, it takes cues from industrial architecture in England (such as the Camden Lock, the Birmingham Canals...), America (such as the Distillery District in Toronto) and especially architecture from the Hanseatic cities in northern Europe (Speicherstadt in Hamburg, Lübeck..., the first being a major inspiration), but as usual, I get the gist of the building without copying exact details from the reference material. I've uploaded the model to the Bricklink Designer Program. This is the fourth time I've tried it without much luck, so I'm not too hopeful, but we'll see! I was already designing this when the oportunity came up, so I thought, might as well! I genuinely think this would be a great product. The techniques are interesting, and the end result is sturdy. A modular with as little building as this would not get released as an official model, but maybe through this program it might! Hope you like it.

Hello everyone, I would like to share my recent build that I put together last minute for the ongoing contest on Lego IDEAS called 'Moments in space'. It is a large scale brick built 'minifigure' of an astronaut. It is inspired by these big brick built figures appearing in several lego sets (as for now I only recall big antman from the Marverl Super Heroes set, but I think there was at least one more). This contest is supposed to help TLG design their next space-based promotional polybag, so I designed something that I would actually like to get as a freebie, and I hope other would as well :D If you like it, you can see more pictures and vote for it HERE! I don't have very many friends on social media that I could lure the votes from so my chances are low, but each vote definitely counts so thank you! (plus if you feel like sharing with your fellow lego enthiusiasts, that's beyond my wildest wishes :D) Of course all comments and criticism are also much appreciated. Footnote - I haven't yet checked the part availability in used colors so I am not 100% sure whether it is currently buildable or not (probably not). I plan, however, on revisiting that, making necessary changes and releasing the LDD instructions so if you'd like to build your own Brick's'tronaut, stay tuned :D

EDIT: Apologies to Captain Braunsfeld, After doing a search on "Brick Bounty" for more ideas and insight after posting this thread, I had found he had done something similar with his MoC Brick Bounty. A glaring oversight on my part as I posted this thread, and apologies to Braunsfeld. To your credit, I feel that yours is the superior build upon reading the thread. ;) EDIT THE SECOND: Another three mast configuration, and the THIRD appearance of Billy the Pirate. Also, I love the extra details BrickOn put into his Bigger Bounty as well, including a bed for the Captain, and Bunks below decks for his crewmen, and a vastly superior Galley build. So looking online, I found a video I fell in love with, Where the Author took 3 of the stock Lego Pirates 2015 set, 74013, The Brick Bounty, and made this formidable looking freighter. Citing the author, specs include room for 14 Cannon fixtures, 8 below deck, and 6 topside, and it's fully rigged... with... rigging... I myself had dabbled with two copies of the Brick Bounty myself, after seeing a thread where some builders said that they had difficulty putting a whole ship together with two sets, because of it's piece count. I have procured a third copy of the set, and conspire to merge it into my own MOC. This thread is mostly for the sake of posterity before I tear it down and build it up again, but more than anything, I want to share what changes I have made to my Bigger, Brickier Bounty. The first thing I want to point out is that I extended the hull by one extra segment, and I gave it a third mast. While it does look impressive, ultimately it's difficult to maneuver the figures during play. Also, the plates on the port and starboard sides flanking the bow was a bit of "Cheating" on my part, those red angle plates serve to conceal the awkward connection between the two bow segments. I made it work, but ideally, I'd have used brown plates instead of the dark tan ones. I would have loved if you could stack multiple bow extenders on top of each other flawlessly, but I was able to use plates and studs to make a sturdy, legal assembly. Also note the added sail at the bow of the ship as well. And the working compass inside the Nest in the bow! I've also modified the Anchor mechanism so that Minifigures can manually raise and lower the anchor as well. "Blast it Billy, quit hitting that bottle and give us a hand!" A group shot of the entire crew, featuring several transplants from the CMF series, a couple special figures, and some customs. My personal favorites are the Captain, of course, and a modified "Cookie" ( He has a hook hand now, and is armed with a Meat Cleaver from the CMF series 6 Butcher, and he also has his hat as well) And the exclusive Minifigure from the 2015 exclusive "Pirate Adventure" set, who I have come to affectionately call "Billy" on account of him/his particular face, while common, bears a striking resemblance to a certain famous Celebrity Pitch-Man. The other pictures enclosed are just miscellaneous shots around the ship. Cookie, hard at work in the Galley located near the bow of the ship, as happy as a clam, while another satisfied customer walks off with his Hamburger "Oh my! But Rodrigo, you know I am betrothed to Captain Roger!" "So you are... But what the good captain does not know, will not hurt him, Chere!" Swordsman Samir, the newest addition to the crew, takes his job as the Captain's bodyguard very seriously. Inside the cabin, as Captain Roger II, esquire is enjoying some surf and turf, Bonnie Lass tells him of Rodrigo's treachery. "Arr, I'm not worried, Lass! Men like him be all spark, and no steel! The only reason I keep him around is for Fodder for the Imperial Guardsmen! Plus, it's funny when Samir stares him down!" Other things of note: I've also, through official stock parts, as well as pieces from my own collection, extended the Captain's Cabin by one whole brick, making Figures with hats and embellishments (Roger II's Captain's Hat with Feather, as an example) able to stand comfortably without hitting the ceiling. I will keep you all updated as I make enhancements and improvements on the ship's design.

Custom Part - Hexagonal Brick

Just played around with some ideas for a new hexagonal part you could use for tabletop-games like "Settlers of Catan" etc. By the way: Please support my "Life-Sized Human Skull" project on LEGO Ideas (if you haven't done jet)! :-) https://ideas.lego.com/projects/142026 Thanks! --- UPDATE 01 --- Some more experiments with my hexagonal building bricks... @DraikNova: As you see above you can easily extend the distance between the "bases" by inserting plates or bricks inbetween them (so you could easily place a 4x4 round plate or brick on top of them). By using bricks with side-studs (as the green one in the bottom-left corner) you could also add extra playfields you could step or build on. The spacing betwen the hexagonal bricks would also allow to make "impassable gaps" (as you can see at the blue brick on the right side). --- UPDATE 02 --- Slightly updated my design by "drilling" holes in the side-studs and changing the connection on top of the brick (1 stud instead of 4, so the 2x2 round plates can rotate freely). As Eurobricks-user Philo mentioned there might be a little problem in connectiong the pieces directly, but if you build "bridges" between them, the connection should work just fine - and you can also place different bricks on the inside of the triangular spaces (in this example a 2x2 round brick with plate on top). -
Is there any way to remove any scratches or other blemishes to restore shine from any LEGO part by means of using a suitable polish for plastic? Usually when I find mixed parts in bags/boxes at thrift shops for instance, they usually have scratches as a result of being moved or shaken.

Back when Bricklink allowed you to sell custom instructions, I bought some plans for a small 2-6-2 Prairie-type steam loco from @SavaTheAggie in January 2014. I devoured them, used the techniques shown to make me a better builder. Now, exactly ten years later, I've revisited the model: I built it in LDD, (with some stand-ins for BBB parts) then went to town making it into my style, and now it's done in the real world. You can see Sava's original MOC on his Flickr page here. I changed the boiler to be studs-up instead of SNOT, and removed the squeaky old tiny wheels from the model, and made space for XS Big Ben Bricks wheels instead. (this actually was easier than I thought it'd be!) I added a bigger headlight, and a different stack along with heavily revising the piston / side rod assembly. As for the tender, different wheels were added and a 'painted' box put on the sides. The engine is numbered 119 and lettered for BRS (Brick Railway Systems), my original LEGO railroad that I began when I was in late-stage elementary school nearly 20 years ago. (Man, how time flies!) I also gave it the original black-and-red paint scheme of my first train MOCs from the early 2010's, as a nod to my past. This loco was my third set of instructions I purchased from Sava back in the day, although I had never built this one until now. (I did build the 4-6-0 and Berkshire I bought in 2010 and 2012 respectively, but oddly not this one from 2014) The inside of the cab. Thoughts? (Updated with new 7 wide tender 1/29/24) -

These buildings were inspired color scheme - wise by set 7222 and the steam locos of the 12v era, which later became Brick Railways Systems main colors. This model was originally built by my father around 2005 / 2006 for an old-style MOC steam engine we built together based off set 7722. It was three tracks long and one track wide at first, but recently I reworked it to be five tracks long and two tracks wide, and with a completely new removable roof. This model can hold any of my steam engines (okay, maybe not the western one, as it is pretty tall), although it is probably too short in length for my diesel units. The rear of the shed. The building is 5 tracks long, which is 80 studs in length. The maximum side clearance is good enough for a 10 stud wide model while the trains can be no more than 11 bricks tall. The original model's roof is permanently attached, while the remake features one large removable section. My father built his original old grey water tower way back in the 1990's back when 9V was king. When he built my first LEGO train (it was a set 7722 inspired steamer, which gave me the idea for my red & black color scheme) in 2006, he built me the water tower to go with it. It wasn't until 2014 when I built myself a long-awaited coaling tower using inspiration from the website called LGauge (link: http://lgauge.com/ ) Anyway, these models are built to be sat the correct height for most official engines, such as the My Own Train series, along with all my custom engines such as my 4-8-2 "Mountain", 2-8-2 "Mikado", 2-6-0 "Mogul", 4-4-0 "American", and so on. The coaling tower features a movable chute to load the (imaginary) coal into the engine's coal bunker or separate tender. The Forgotten Daylight 4460 is a oil burner, so it does not use this particular tower. The girders on the rear of the coal tower are supposed to represent real-world idea of housing a bucket-conveyor system to load the bin inside the tower. Here, in LEGO, it is just for looks. The water tower features a movable spout to fill up the engine's tanks / tender. Here are the LDD files for the buildings so far: LDD file for the double track shed: shed with doors ldd file LDD file for both refueling towers: refueling towers file NOTE: This thread is a W-I-P: the shed parts have been ordered as of 2/3/16, but the switch tower is a ways off into the future. I should have the shed built by this time next week or the week after! EDIT 2/22/16: The shed is finished, while the switch tower is pushed back some.. it won't be built for a while. EDITED 1/14/17: As of January 2017 the shed now has opening engine doors which are colored to match the red stripe on the walls. They will be added to the real life model as soon as funds allow, but there is a sneak peek in the latest post! (The LDD file has been updated as well with the doors.)

I am sure this has been done in various variations over the years after Lego ceased production of train track crossing (last produced in 1999 for 9v tracks). I only have PF train tracks so I made my own version. Below is a Bluerender rendered version I put together in LDD and below that are actual brick built. Note that the track requires to be raised as a result, by a brick, or at least 2 plates. Update: Here is the updated crossing only image that has a center tiled section to help with 2878c01 train wheels which have a narrower wheel spacing. A manhole will also lead you to the attic to blow the cobwebs away and, who knows, sport a new IDEAS creation! This whole house will be just 1590 pieces including furniture! Kitchen?’ Nothing to worry about, a hardcore AFOL doesn’t need any of these and even so there will be some other modular building next to this one where you would seek help. Hello everyone, some days ago i was looking some projects on kickstarter and i found this: It is called "Flexo", and it is thought to add many new ways of building to Lego, it consist in 2 parts, a custom brick with connections, and a tendom-like part which enables movements as flexing, twisting, bending and bouncing: This project could give more awesome functions to normal buildings, which wouldn't be posible or easily achieved with normal bricks, with the Flexo parts you can make small vehicles suspensions, suspended bridges, trampolines, catapults, brick built conveyor belts and many other things. This building is inspired by 2011 Harry Potter set 10217 (Diagon Alley), specifically the Borgin and Burkes shop that is technically not on Diagon Alley in the HP universe. (it is instead of a neighboring street where evil wizards / witches dwell) Here is the front of the building. The number "1887" goes on the four studs above the middle second floor windows using printed number tiles. That year was the year the building was built, by the way. The new rear half of the building features a back door and a couple windows. This model will serve as my fictional railroad's headquarters on my town, and as such has a miniature model railroad inside. (just for the heck of it) The building also features a tower, two story fireplace, and staircase to the upper floor. The lack of other interior furnishings is intentional, as I haven't been able to think of a single piece of early to mid 1900's furniture for the offices of the railway president and the accompanying secretary. The building has hinges to allow for it to open up to 90 degrees, but no further due to the wall ornaments being in the way. As usual, the building is locked together by a friction-less Technic pin to allow for easy opening and shutting. The original building from set 10217 has 14 dark green windows I need for a updated train (seen here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=138020 ), so this building will be built sooner rather than later, probably next month, if possible. (I really don't know, as I'm juggling about five possible next-builds at the moment. All will be built eventually, but whatever's next I don't know for sure!)
