  1. Ever since building my Classic Dump Truck from two years ago, I felt like it was a model that could be greatly improved upon. The original model was built at a relatively small scale, though I was able to put a good number of functions in the model. This will be the sequel to that model, and at a much larger scale. Stud.io model so far: I've immediately put a good amount of electronic components in the model. This model will use Control+ elements; a large angular motor is used for drive, which is 4WD on this model (unlike the previous smaller version which was RWD). Thanks to it having an output on both the front and rear, it is able to easily form a longitudinal driveshaft while oriented vertically. Note the extendable CV joint in the driveshaft - this will allow the driveshaft to be easily disconnected to access the Control+ hub battery compartment. Hopefully it's not an issue when the drivetrain is under stress, especially with the gearing down at the differentials. I also included a flat-6 piston engine connected to the drivetrain. I initially used 14:22 heavy duty differentials and planetary hubs, but found the resulting speed to be painfully slow so I changed it to 12:28 differentials and wheel hubs without gear reduction for a good speed/torque balance. As for the design, the model will have a yellow cab built mostly using Technic but also with some System details. I initially wanted to make the cab orange again, with the same color scheme as the previous version, but I found the large yellow mudguards from the 42114 set to be a perfect fit for this model. So far, the design looks pretty good in Stud.io, and it definitely gives the classic pick-up truck vibe. Stud.io model with bodywork hidden: Current progress photos:
  2. Hi Guys! I'm happy to present you my (first) alternate model of the Mercedes G500 (set 42177) into a classic Defender 90! A classic Defender has been on my todo list for a long time, I have tried it with set 42110 as well, but certain details just did not work out (oversized fender pieces relative to wheels), but with the G500 set I finally went for it as the parts are quite okay for making the iconic details of this model. Due to the orange color, the model was heavily inspired by modern variants in classic shape, such as the Heritage version, which does exist in almost exactly this color. Let me take you through the design process as well, but to start off, here's a video to showcase all the features! Features 4-link live axle suspension on both axles all wheel drive with central and rear differential lock 3+R gearbox in an H pattern working inline 4 piston engine working steering wheel and HoG openable doors with functional locks, including the rear clean interior with seats and classic benches in the rear section numerous accessories such as roof rack, reflectors, toolbox, cans, ladder, spare wheel, snorkel, spade and axe Design process Bodywork As already usual for me with these kind of models, the design started with the bodywork to see whether it is possible to make a good looking model using the parts of the source set. This was done in Studio to be able to easily build in the air. Certain parts were key, such as the trapezoid panels to be able to make the hood (actually I already suspected this possibility when I heard about the G-class as it has a similar hood shape). Then I tried the front face / lights / grille. Luckily the source set has an unusually high number of 1x2 grille tiles, just enough to make the entire large grille (which had to become even width because of the 1x2 part). Also, enough clear parts to make the light cluster, even the luxury of choosing from 2x2 and 3x3 dishes, somehow the smaller ones looked better for me, but they are actually exchangeable. Next was the fenders. This was critical, since the Defender has a distinct shape of fenders, with angles / curved shape that are different from the 4x6 angled beam used in the G500, so using those parts was out of the question. Also, the set did not have enough 112.5 degree angled connectors, which would have been perfect for the job, so I had to resort to different technique to make the angle. Luckily, there were just enough black connectors in the set, which could be used with some tricky mounting points. Another key detail was the curved slope running through the sides; to see whether there's enough material for that and whether it can all be connected firmly to the rest of the body. Especially the door are was tricky, where I also had to pay attention to allow it to close easily. The new angled connectors also came in handy to add that small but important detail to the side windows, which is best seen on the rear view. So slowly the sides and front got together, and using the curved black panels, I just managed to put together a convincing roof shape too. Last I made the rear door/windows, where I also managed to model those little side windows while allowing the door to be openable. At first I did not want to bother with door locks, I did not find them very convincing on the A model, but then I saw that all alternate builds do it, so I thought I had to give it a try, and I am happy I did. I tried to make a more realistic and smooth mechanism than the A model, and I stumbled upon a simple way that opens by pushing the handle down. It works like a charm, and I managed to replicate it for the rear door too. Chassis, drivetrain, suspension Once the body was looking nice and the dimensions were known, I started thinking about the internals. First the suspension. The rear suspension was the part in the A model which was the most underwhelming for me. Even though there is a ton of space at this scale, the linkage geometry is just unrealistic; it even binds up if there is no weight on it because of too much constraints (triangulated upper links plus a Panhard rod constraining the axle at different heights is just physically impossible). The use of that new suspension arm feels out of place, a simple parallel 4-link with long 9L links and the Panhard rod could have been much simpler and realistic at the same time. Another thing I don't like there is the chassis rail geometry and the spring mounting. The chassis rails are unrealistically tall along with the springs which end up being in the middle of the trunk. Again, I was thinking, at this large scale, in a manual model, it should be possible to make something more realistic. So that's what I aimed for, if even with the part restrictions of the set. In a chassis with live axles squeezing in the 3x19 frame is a bit more difficult as longitudinal space is a luxury because the axles need more space, but it turned out to be just okay. So I aimed for a solid but slim / flat chassis railing that does not protrude into the bed area in the rear. As for the suspension linkage, I used the short ones on the front, and for the rear, I used longer ones to allow the lower ones to pass under the frame. I also moved the springs out to keep the bed clean. In this model I did not aim for long travel anyway, as I wanted to keep the body lowered on the wheels, to look more realistic, unlike the overly lifter G500. I mean it's nice to have that long travel, but when it comes at the cost of obscuring both the chassis / spring geometry and the fenders at the same time, then something does not feel right. I think the core of the problem is using these short springs all the time instead of bringing back longer softer ones. With these short ones it's not possible to build live axles with realistic geometry unless the spring ends up in the middle of the chassis / trunk, which is no good. Once the suspension geometry was sorted, I moved onto the drivetrain / gearbox. The most challenging part. To make something true to the real world model, I definitely wanted an H pattern gearbox with a reverse gear. On one hand the availability of the new 12T clutch gear in the set made this possible, as it allows to move one of the 4 gears out of the connected gear-train and reverse it without effecting the others. On the downside, the set is quite short on various gear sizes (no 24T and 8T gears typically used in 3+ speed gearboxes), so actually making the 3-speed part was more difficult, I had to use a longer train of gears which made things harder to route and brace, caused some weird friction issues as well, and also I used up most of the gears in the set. The inclusion of a central differential with lock also complicated things, so I just settled from a bottom operated lock, as in case of the rear axle anyways. Another difficulty with a 3+R gearbox in an H pattern is where to put the reverse gear. The problem with the more obvious / favorable 1-2-3-R positions is that the reverse gear gets opposite to the 3rd gear, which means it will naturally become similar speed as the 3rd gear, which is unrealistic. So I went with the R-1-2-3 pattern, which allows the reverse gear to be similar speed as the 1st gear which is realistic. On top of all, the HoG steering axle also had to pass through the chassis. Luckily, I could avoid routing it through the middle, colliding with the gearbox, rather on the side instead. This is because the steering is based on a linkage, as in case of real live axles, which is actuated from one side (where the steering wheel is) to the other. It turned out, that I had free space on the right side of the gearbox, which was lucky, because then I could put the steering wheel and the HoG routing to the right side, which is just a good match for the Defender being an English brand (interestingly, mirroring the gearbox would not work because then the H pattern would also get mirrored which would be unrealistic for the gear sequence). In the end I ran out of gears, so I had to use some tricky linkages to get the steering wheel move. I even had to resort to using the 20T clutch gear on a friction pin, which works okay when using the HoG and it moves the steering wheel in the cabin, but the steering wheel could not be used to steer the model (though can be fixed by swapping that green gear to a proper 20T one). An interesting thing about the build is that the actual gearbox submodule turned out the be a single piece dropped in between the chassis frames. Interior and accessories The final touches were the interior, and some extra accessories to make the model more interesting, less plain. As for the interior, besides the usual front seats, I definitely wanted to make sideways benches in the rear section. Luckily enough, there was enough DBG material to make these happen. As for the extras, an obvious one was the spare wheel and the roof rack, but I also added a ladder on the side, making sure that it (and the spare wheel) still allows the rear door to open. I also took some inspiration from the Icons Defender to mount some tools (spade and axe) to the hood, and add a toolbox and some cans on the top. Also a simple snorkel mountable to the A pillar. Here are some photos to showcase it in real life. More images are available on Bricksafe. Building instructions are available on Rebrickable. Let me know how you like it! Cheers, Viktor

  5. Hello Chevy and Speed Champions fans, The 1957 Chevrolet is a car that was introduced by Chevrolet in September 1956 for the 1957 model year. It was available in three series models: the upscale Bel Air, the mid-range Two-Ten, and the One-Fifty. It is a popular and sought after classic car. Its image has been frequently used in toys, graphics, music, movies, and television. The '57 Chevy, as it is often known, is an auto icon. This model is based on one of my favorite Matchbox as a child. Building instructions are available on the following links: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-87788/_TLG_/57-chevy-matchbox-version It is a studless model in the new, 8 studs wide Speed Champions style, and it is an update of my earlier design, because some new parts have become available since the first release which was in 2021, therefore I was able to build a cleaner, less pixelated flame decoration. The use of stickers is minimized to keep the flexibility of the used parts in further builds, therefore only two standard vehicle registration plate stickers are used. My intent was to keep the width-length-height ratio of the real car and this size makes it possible. I wanted to build the model as accurate as possible in this small scale, therefore it contains lots of details: for example the brick built flame decoration, the emblematic front bumper with the vehicle registration plate and front lights, the side view mirrors and the rearview mirror, the tiltable seats etc.. Maybe the most challenging one was the brick built number on the trunk. I tried to fill every unecessary gaps and therefore some tricky build techniques are used. The model has space for two minifigures on the front seats. There are some space before the rear seats too, but it is enough only for a minifigure without legs Thanks for visiting, _TLG_ '57 Chevy (update 2024) - INSTRUCTIONS 1 by László Torma, on Flickr '57 Chevy (update 2024) - INSTRUCTIONS 2 by László Torma, on Flickr
  6. Hey all, we'd like to present another alternate build from the Lego 42154-1 Ford GT set. This was the best I could do out of the Ford GT! Honestly, I'd just like to hear if you guys liked it :) A 1/12 Scale Technic Ferrari F40. When designing this model, we wanted to preserve the Ferrari's iconic features and looks to make it a worthy replica of the famous sports car. The limited parts available in the Ford GT set proved challenging, making a functional car that looks accurate and performs as a good display piece. I want to say that when designing the model we built it to act as a shelf princess with some extra features. Our Instagram for more photos: InstagramNow let's dive into the features Features: Accurate and detailed F40 V8 Engine (working) RWD Suspension on both front and rear axles (limited in the front) HOG steering Interior with steering wheel and seats Opening doors Accurate F40 exhaust design 1/12 Scale (same scale as Ford GT) Tilting Hood Pop up Headlights A tilting Rear section that exposes the engine, rear suspension and exhaust Full independent suspension
  7. I created this upgrade version of this 1987 space set using only pieces found on the Classic Space theme. Now the spaceship can split into 3 modules, the two cockpits plus a speeder that is the mid secton of the ship. This is the set we should gotten back in 1987!. 8. Ezzel a kis csónakkal járta a környéket. Nem ment nagy távokra. A terve az volt, hogy seftelni fog az árukkal amíg nem találkozik egy régi cimborájával vagy nem tud lopni vagy venni egy bárkát, hogy tovább állhasson. [ENG] After Steve survived the big battle and found a place to settle down, he was determined to get the attention of a ship and return him to civilisation. Every day, he sailed the sea in his little raft, so that if he saw a ship, he would have a chance to get in its way or signal it somehow. One day luck smiled on him and a small fishing boat picked him up. From there he was taken to Porto Brick, where he left in a small sailing boat a short time later. But he grew fond of his little hideaway, so he returned there from time to time in this little boat to land his contraband. He used this little boat to travel around the area. He didn't go very far. His plan was to seft with the goods until he could meet an old mate or steal or buy a barge to keep him going.
  9. Escape from the Imperial Trading Post On just another day in the Caribbean Steve, the Merchant, arrived at the Imperial Trading Post on his trusty Cutter sailing for profit and adventure. Soon after disembarking his vessel, Blue Coats of the Imperial Soldiers raided the Imperial Guard’s Trading Post. In the Chaos of the attack his ship was seized by the enemy. Wishing to avoid becoming a prisoner of the attacking Blue Coats, and with no other means of escape, Steve decided to accompany a few members of Captain Red Beard’s crew, as they scaled the cliffs down to a waiting Dingy bound for the Skull’s Eye Schooner. 10. Introduction; I believe that many among us have made a MOC that they like, but think that something is missing and want to change it somehow to make it look better or emphasize in the story-telling. Among them, here I am! This MOC, follows my previous attempt and continues my story from where it was left! The Story; "...In a galaxy far, far away, somewhere in a corner of it, there is an unknown and isolated planet. Despite the initial disturbance from the clatter and thunder that unsettled the inhabitants of the planet on that festive day, the strange visitors became especially beloved by the local population. Our beloved C-3PO, despite speaking over 3 million languages and dialects, had a hard time getting in touch with them at first, but eventually succeeded and thus added another language to his database. The time was passing pleasantly as our 2 robots tried to find a way to repair their pod so they could continue their journey, enjoying their walks in the blossoming nature with the inhabitants of this isolated planet, until once again a bang and a thunder shocked the calm atmosphere that was prevailing..." I am looking forward for your comments! You can find additional pictures of my creation on my FlickR
  11. Hi there! Phew, the Caribbean Brig closely made it in time into port to enter the contest! (for category New LEGO Pirate set from the 90s era) Although the hourglas on the webpage seems broken, my Kalender still states 25th august so the deadline should not be closed! I present you the Carribbean Brig: (the ship I saw in the official caribbean clipper, though it was way to small to be the flagship of Gov. Broadside!) UPDATE (for full Infos see my latest comment) Old Topic Entry: It is a fully square rigged brig, proudly sailing the seven seas in search for Captain Redbeard. It is equipped with 3 Cannons on the main deck. Two of them are the feared royal cannons (in blue). The lower deck is fully equipped with 6 cannons, 3 for each side. The stern has 2 cannons as well, which can be swiveled. When you remove the last bit of the handrail, these cannons can rotato fully to the sides, but I would let this modification to the kids themeselfes, as I did when I was young. I am a bit late to the contest, so there is not much time for criticism and changing something, but I created some slighly different sterns with 1 or two flextubes. (Please give some feedback, even when the contest deadline has passed, it is always interesting!) The maindeck is removable and the sides of the cabin can be opened: This gives a better look in the cabin, as well: The figurehead is a small dragon: The anchor and the crane have working winches for play. Check the Flickr-Album for more pics! I hope you like it and to fully upgrade the blucoat set wave, I build the Eldorado Bastion as well. Both can be combined well, check it out here: Eldorado Bastion All the best and good luck to all contestants, there are already so many marvellous builds. The new Eldorado Fortress and the contest really brought back old pirates in the forum and some new sailors as well! Awesome!
  12. This is my entry for the 'Moments in Space' contest on Lego Ideas: a supersize XXL Classic Spaceman! He's around 16 cm high and contains 211 parts. 13. Introduction; This MOC is my first attempt, specified in landscape, of this size. The Story; "... In a galaxy far far away, somewhere in one of its corners, there is an unknown and isolated planet. In the center of the area where life has been developed, lies its oldest structure. A stone column with unknown carvings. But this is not the only peculiar thing about it. Every year, it lights up on its own and an abrupt hum is emitted. The next moment, something magical is happening! It's like the whole planet is coming alive - a heady aroma is overflowing everywhere, the flowers bloom, animals wake up and everyone enjoys this magical moment. This day has arrived, and all three tribes of the planet have gathered to celebrate the day of life. Everything rolls pleasantly, until a clank and a thunder shakes the calm atmosphere that prevails ... " 1. Honoring the Monolith MOC by George Patelis, on Flickr 2. Crashing Site 3. Crash Crater 7. 14. In the monorail system that I have been developing on and off since 2013 (from the Hidaka monorail that uses a City prototype of the Osaka monorail), I have built a Classic Space monorail train. The train has a new drive-train and is geared down 5:3 so that the heavier train will climb well. It is still based on a train motor but I stopped using belt drive. The average speed is up to 0.57m/s. The lights on the right-hand axle will flash when the train moves. This uses the other channel of the IR Receiver. The battery box (AAAs or LiPo) is behind the Space logo and is easy to change. There is a removable module system. The module on the train unfolds to become a scooter. There is a medical stretcher module and a power module on the ground. It has proven to be reliable on my loft layout. I will do a video in due course. I need to get the lighting right as it was too dark last time I did a video in the loft. As well as a second Classic Space train and a 2-motor goods train with extra wagons, I have prototypes for Futuron, Blacktron and M-Tron trains. More pics of the system here Mark
  15. Alright then. It's almost here this twenty-eighteen...and time is ticking on the vote for favorite classic set of 2017. I was lucky enough to visit GB this past summer with my daughter and visited the flagship Leicester store. Like a pilgrimage to my youth, I was astounded by the lineup to set my feet into the shop. Once inside, the muscles in my neck grew two-fold as I was awed by the displays. I managed to pick up some goodies there...about a case full...and was impressed with the classic creator building box #10703...still not available to us in North America. I have to say, it is by far my favorite classic set of seventeen. I ask my fellow members, what is your favorite?
  16. All, After more then 2 year without working on a new Technic MOC I am now ready to present my new project: A classic roadster based on a Jaguar XK120. I managed to built it in white and separate the frame and the bodywork completety. Due to this there is also a frame version with full RC. It can be build in red and black as well without major adaptations. More pictures, video and instructions to follow.... 17. When I got the green baseplate 16x32 I knew I need to build small diorama on it. From some time I wanted to build something in Dark Bluish Gray colour for testing purpose. I am going to build bigger castle in that colour. I also had returning idea of creating hanging bridge. And that's how this fast MOC evolved. 18. I just finished doing my Classic Spaceheadz. More pictures to follow once yellow's and blue's air tanks have arrived.
  19. This Classic Space ship was built for my brothers' fleet by me. The windscreen is not available (yet), but it does come on a 2017 not-yet-released Star Wars set. I believe I am the first to use that cockpit for a CS build. This ship features six guns and five crew members, with seats for each inside the easily accessible interior. The front of the ship should feature one of this print. The model has two smaller boosters and one (quite large) engine made of 20 smaller ones. The front canopy and the middle roof lift away individually to reach into the crew areas. Each of the five crew members has a seat. Behind this leaded glass resides the nuclear fusion reactor, the heart of the ship. The five brave crew members, one of which should be wearing this uniform instead as the ship's commander. The LDD file is available here. As usual, comments, questions and complaints are always welcome! I don't know if this one will be built in real bricks, to tell you the truth, as my brother may or may not ever build it. (But if he doesn't I will someday!)
  20. This classic-styled UFO is just a fun little project I came up with while messing around with the new slopes that came out on the London Bus / VW Beetle. I have had it pointed out to me it looks somewhat similar to the car in some cartoon TV show I don't watch called 'Rick & Morty." I don't know for sure, but looking at pictures online, it seems like I could have been subliminally influenced by those video ads on Facebook I've scrolled past recently. The ship has two engines and an opening cockpit with seating for one figure at the controls. Meet Norma Alley, who goes about everyday the same way, for her whole life. Get up alone, got to work where no-one knows you, then she gets to a bar where her crush doesn't even know you exist, and finally go to bed in your tiny apartment with your cat that couldn't care less if you came home at all... only to start thew whole process over the next day. (Man, that was the most depressing and sad thing I've ever written, and was partially inspired by the Paul McCartney song "Another Day".) LDD file included here for the ship and it's pilot figure. Any thoughts, questions and complaints are welcome, though i don't know if I will build this one in real bricks. It is possible to do so, but as this is just a table-scrap, I probably will not built it.
  21. 4 wide is the good ol' desgin we all probably had played with quite a few years back. However, due to limited space and options, i found designing some accurate cars not that easy. I still just gave it a try to see how much detail i can crank in there without it being unstable. The aim was too keep the spirit of 4 wides intact, yet have the car recognisable. I decided to go 5 wide (allthough the inside chassis is the classic 4x10) since supercars tend to be a lot wider than regular cars. I did two variants for two brands. Perhaps this is to someones liking - instructions are availiable. (per mail) and yes, they fit a minifig! ...there is also some detailed dashboard and steering wheel inside.
