Ahoy! I had some spare time recently, so I decided to play with Bricklink Studio and build a soldier's ship - this is how the "Royal Navy Frigate" was created. It consists of 1293 bricks; dimensions are 59.5 cm x 44.1 cm x 21.8 cm. Main features 3 cannons that can be quickly moved to both sides; an easily removable deck that provides access to the ship's hold; an anchor on chain controlled by a rotating mechanism – the front part of the ship can be also entirely taked out; a furnitured captain's cabin accessible from both sides thanks to hinged drop-down walls; additional space under the stateroom, which can be used as a berthing or prison cell for captured pirates; 5 minifigures: admiral, two officers, and two soldiers. All elements except those in metallic gold, one in dark bluish gray and minifigures were already in production. As for sails – these are parts #87675 and #87676 – with new printing design. To be honest this post is bitter-sweet for me, because I also wanted to invite you to Lego Ideas to support this project - unfortunately today it was rejected due to the fact TLG released Pirates of the Barracuda Bay in LEGO Ideas line. The comment I received was reffering to "commonality of design between galleon and frigate style ships", so "this build would fall under this concept category and sadly overlap". I don't see any possibility to change it so I am not going to resubmit it. Anyway, time for images

Minerva is a fast frigate whose sole purpose is to keep the Oceans safe from those Pirates, and dare I may say a ship that has been sorely missing in the LEGO World. She comes with 12 Minifigures and one small cat to keep the food supplies safe from rats. Please Vote Now () at BrickLink.com if you would like for her to be produced as part of the BrickLink Designer Program: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-4/1451/Imperial-Frigate-Minerva Minerva is a highly efficient design, which is to say that it does a lot with its 4000 pieces. Although the design is ambitious, I have paid close attention to making it as buildable as possible. What I can definitely guarantee is that you’ll come across plenty of interesting techniques as well as those sweet moments where sections come together and fit just perfectly - just have a look at Minerva’s stern. Minerva has several features that make her highly playable and friendly to Minifigures, as demonstrated in this video: Please Vote (): https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-4/1451/Imperial-Frigate-Minerva Thanks a lot!

I was never a huge fan of this ship... but once I started modeling, I couldn't stop. It's a unique ship in terms of shape, and, at only 39 studs, it's at a very manageable scale. Same scale as @Kristof's Venator. This is one that I plan to build, and I'm confident in its rigidity, despite the skeletal structure. Admittedly, the gray 3x3x2 dome top (pn 88293) is too tall for the rear armor plating, but I didn't like the blocky aesthetic of the alternatives. A 3x3x1 dome top would be ideal, or even a wedge 3x3 variant of pn 43708, but, alas, we can't have everything in life. Renders UPDATE: Here's a shot of the build next to Kristof's Venator. More images of the Munificent build can be found in the replies.

Another one of my long forgotten vessels finally presentable. (started ~May 2017, forgotten since 1st September 2017) Having lost the Cardinal in the Battle of the Five fleets, replacement was needed. With the funds available, it was quickly decided that another frigate, maybe a bit faster and lighter, would be needed to replace it. Farrucio Paraja quickly came up with a design; due to various delays a sistership of the Cardinal itself had been finished much faster then the new vessel. Now, half a year later, the delays have been resolved and the vessel been finished. Now that its done, it is time to head out to hunt pirates... To load more cargo, the ships boats had to be dropped off. Lots of various pieces of cargo were being loaded aboard the vessel. Quick overview over the whole vessel: Fishing issues, already noted a couple days ago, popped up once again. With most cargo loaded, it was time to load the small boats - 5 of them, if we ever need to get to any island with the whole crew it would certainly be possible. Waving goodbye:

The busy Eltina shipyards has yet delivered another vessel to the colonial squadron of la Royale. Such speed is only possible with the affluence of new settlers, indeed, the recent event at a former Mardier island has forced many of the "Royalists" to flee to more hospitable lands. This extra of manpower allowed our shipyards to run 24h on 24 to satisfy the thirst of la Royale for mooaarrr ships. Meanwhile, to exploit further the labourers, the owner of the shipyards, Knight Lagaufre, has decided to launch a new frigate, a heavy one. She's built with 5 midsections, length-wise is comparable to a class 7 two-decker, but since she only has one full deck, I plan to license her as a class 6. C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi!

Class 6 Heavy Frigate "Lightning" Coppered hull Ship by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr My most recent ship build is this copper hulled heavy frigate which I have dubbed the "Lightning". It's got 40 guns in total. It has 20 24-pounders on the bottom deck and 14 9-pounders on the top deck. There are 2 24-pounders and 4 9-pounders facing backward. It has a copper hull for speed and maneuverability as well as 3 square-rigged masts. Crew size would be around 15ish. It has a small cargo hold/powder mag and has a weapon storage to arm the crew in case of ship boarding. The colonial squadron of la Royale is ready to welcome a new member, a smaller one this time, designed for reconnaissance and escort missions. Here she is, the class 6 Licorne (unicorn),flying proudly the ensign of Oleander navy: Class Cost Stats Points Range Maneuver Firepower Crew Cargo Hull Sum 6 560 24 5 4 6 4 0 5 24 The above is the proposed stats repartition, with emphasis put on range and maneuvrability, as we can expect from a frigate. The origin of this ship is unclear, the official story says she is a renovated warship, without further details, but some say there was a secret meeting and there's even an amateur artist who has drawn a sketch of a ship who ressembles vaguely to our Licorne. The photos are a bit dark, hope you can see the small guns from the hole. All the parts above the gun deck have been redone. Figurehead, the brown thingy is supposed to represent an unicorn. Thanks for viewing. C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi!

The tales all tell about captains brave enough to challenge larger and more heavily armed opponents. And succesfully defeat those opponents by witty tactics and superior maneuvering ... However, those are the tales. When you face reality, reality in the shape of an English frigate facing a French 64 gun battle ship that is, all kinds of heroics are reduced and everything becomes a simple equation taking into account the relevant numbers. A bold move of the English captain but a stupid one, one full broadside of the French 64 was enough to blast him back to reality. A cooperation with Captain Greenhair.

Here's something familiar from The Clone Wars to share with you - the Munificent-class star frigate. This one is seen throughout The Clone Wars series and in Revenge of the Sith so it was on my Must-MOC list for a long time. I wanted to make sure it would look somewhat suitable in scale when displayed with the Venator 8039. There's likely no hope of TLG ever doing this ship. There's not much to it but a shell of a hull with some guns around it - I was hoping to place an interior somewhere but there's barely any space. I recycled a bit of familiar parts - that sticker from the front slope pieces are from the Mandalorian speeder. The black strut in the front is there only to keep the ship upright. I had a version without the ventral fin but it looked wrong. I also got some inspiration from stark mark 5's sweet build here: Comments welcome. I can see now that I have to fix those engines. Next build.

(Moderators, please note: These ships are inspired by Star Wars vehicles / sets , but they are not linked to star wars in any other way. As such, please do not move this thread to Star Wars forum. Thank you!) also, sorry for the blurry pictures. These are the best I could do. The Nevermore was commissioned in 2009 as the second ship of the "Vanguard" class of Star Cruiser. The ship's only sister vessel, the Usher, was destroyed in 2010 by a Blacktron strike force while the Nevermore was just a skeleton-frame and a yard number. (The Usher was enroute to the Unknown Regions to confront a Fleet of Blacktron ships headed for the Imperial shipyards, located on the world of Titan IV) The Nevermore was finished at lightning speed and was launched the week before the Blacktron arrived in May 2011, and soundly beat the Blacktron fleet with the help of a prototype Ion Cannon attached to Titan IV's surface. After chasing the Blacktron from the sector, the ship was christened the Nevermore by his Imperial Highness himself, with it's symbol being the Raven. In August 2012, the ship set off with orders to join up with the Imperial frigate Lenore and two Assault Carriers named the Avenger, and the Impervious (among with several dozen support ships and fighters) to from the Home Fleet. Name: Nevermore Owner: Lego Empire Model: Vanguard Class Star Cruiser Designer: Imperial Design Dept. Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 16 Twin Ion Engines (TIE) Max Speed: 1,850 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 60% speed of light The Nevermore features 16 engines. As you may have guessed, this ship is a modified version of set 9515: the Malevolence made into Imperial Gray-scale. The command bridge of the Nevermore features Admiral Oswald Lyons seat (on the right) with Lt. Commander Eliza Burnside (top seat) and Doctor Andrew Sinister (bottom seat) Right: Admiral Oswald Lyons Middle: Dr. Andrew Sinister Left: Lt Commander Eliza Burnside The Lenore was built during the last Blacktron War in late 2010. It was built with an experimental engine system which super-charged the regular TIE reactor into a BO-TIE ultra-reactor. This will make the regular Twin Ion Engine obsolete... once all the kinks are worked out with the design. Until such time, the cream of the crop in reactor technicians and their associated equipment are stationed on the Lenore should anything go wrong. This ship can go faster at light-speed than the Nevermore, though it trundles along at slower speed when not at full throttle. (It's sort of like a conventional turbine: works well at full speed but it's not so fuel efficient at lower speeds) Anyway, the Lenore is currently stationed in the Home Fleet the Star Cruiser Nevermore with two Assault Carriers named the Avenger, and the Impervious, among with several dozen support ships and fighters. Name: Lenore Owner: Lego Empire Model: Poe Class frigate Designer: Imperial Design Dept. Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 3 Boosted Output Twin Ion Engines (BO-TIE) Max Speed: 1,300 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 65% speed of light rear view featuring the 3 BO-TIE engines. Right: Captain Patricia Romanov Middle: Dr. Edward Jekyll Left: Lt. Commander Landon Williams Both the Nevermore (top) and the Lenore (bottom) are in scale with each other. ...and here is the symbol of the mighty LEGO Empire. Well, that's all for now. What do you think? Comments, Questions, & Complaints are welcome!

Happy Force Friday everyone! The frigate is one of top ships for screen time during the Clone Wars, and also seen in Episode III, but it has no LEGO model, so I made one for it! It has 2 Separatist stickers on the side, and I think it works great on this scale! This is actually one of the only scales that will work since you need the shape of those 2 large front pieces, so I'm glad they exist! I also love the tiny details on the buildings on top. This text is mostly credit, previous ideas and rambling, you may just look through the links and at the pictures. Recently I've been thinking about how one could build a ship with smoother lines than usual - CGHs building technique might be great, but there are always some steps in between the different modules. Then there is Sebeus I's prefab technique, which requires one to basically build one broadside of a ship and clip it onto it. This might be smoother, but still - it misses some of the curves most of the ships in the Age of Sail had. Part I: In a Lego store I stumbled over a bunch of Harry Potter Wands in black; I picked up a few hundred of them, hoping to do something with them. So, there we have the very first part of my journey - a mini-scale first rate, that I still consider a WIP, even though it is currently disassembled: Now, this technique may work for that specific situation, but I just couldn't see how to apply the technique I used for that one for a minifigure-scale (or illusion scale as it is often called) ship. So put it aside. A few weeks later, Kurigan reminded me of the organic ship from Sebeus (I'm totally stealing that name for this, sorry;)), which brought my interest in this back, but I didn't really want to use that technique - while it might be a great technique, I just can't see it being stable enough, nor cheap. Part II: A few weeks ago a small conversation about a different interior than exterior colour on ships happened - this somehow ended with me going through the ship index (the one for BOBS) and finding the Matterhorn by Mr Townsend - coincidentally build with tiles on the outside and the option to have differently coloured plates on the inside. It still has the steps on the outside - I want to go without that. Part III: Sunday, last week. I had an idea which involved bending a snotted broadside (the idea about bending a broadside I also heard from Kabel), which I quickly turned into a mockup build - and I think this is the idea I'll continue with. So, here is the mockup: Excuse the mess. Part IV: Heard from kurigan about another ship built using a very similar technique, the Revenge by MayDayArtist; the technique behind it seems to be way more advanced, and "more of a one time thing" (not so accurate quote from kurigan). ________________ So, that's basically the story behind this concept. To show it versatility a bit more, I've quickly done a mockup for the tumblehome of a first Rate, and, for comparision, a small, 14 gun, brig: The first rate I'm not going to do more with - it was just to show that you can build basically any ships center hull using this technique. The brig - I'm not sure, I think I'll first build the project I'm starting now, and then maybe look at that brig again. So, let's get started on the WIP, which will be a 42 gun fifth rate frigate - 2x14 guns on the gundeck + 14 guns on the upper deck. The upper decks armament may still change. The stern will be on the right of these pictures, just for perspective. I started by building the length of the central hull; I did this in 3 parts, as I want to keep a ship this size somewhat modular and the broadside can't be easily split using this technique. You can see the tan tiles showing the future positions of the gunports. How it looks connected - there are only 5 technic pins connecting these parts, to allow disassembly later on. Next, I'm using a bunch of 1x4 tiles and 1x6 plates to build another simulated broadside - this is just a part to help me "draw" the lines of the ship. Using some more plates of different length I mount these - note that the last and first gunport still line up; this means that the long line gets streched a little bit, which may not be great, but so far I haven't seen any damage done to the bricks. I think here it makes some sense to show the parts I'm using - some technic pins, technic bricks, old style (!) hinges and some inverted 2x2 brackets. I use these to follow the technic bricks to remake the curve (very roughly) I laid out earlier. I place the brackets with the hinges in positions where the hinges won't obstruct a gunport (I leave 1 stud on either side of the hinges up the gunports). Next, I place these broadside mounts instead of the temporary plates and tiles; I made sure to place them in a way that allows the entire thing to stay modular. Now, I reinforce the lower parts using a bunch of plates (you won't see these later, I just had a bunch of dkb gray around) Here I prepare a bunch of black tiles for simulating the lower part of the hull. Sadly I own very few 1x6 tiles in black, so I had to use 1x8 and 1x4 tiles - 1x6 tiles would be just perfect. These stripes are the full length of the broadside - 6 studs longer than the outer hinges are apart. I'm placing them a little offset from eachother to simulate planking. if one would want to make this even more realistic he could try to angle this part a bit downward too - that was a bit to much for my first model using this technique. Quick view from ontop to show the current state - I think I may have to make this ship a little bit thinner, maybe 2 or 4 bricks? I would be glad about some feedback about that. In the last part for today I'm preparing the lowest part of the angled tumblehome - a long line of 1x6 tiles supported by 1x4 plates. I'll need a lot of these! For now these are just mounted on the further outwards hinges using some plates behind some tiles. All my black 1x6 tiles are currently in the 1st rate broadside that I need to tear down. _________________ So, that is what I have so far. Now I need some feedback and some help - should I make the entire thing a little bit thinner (note that bow and stern are still missing), or maybe change the curve a little bit? So, now to the part where I need help. I'm not quite sure how I'll build the bow, I have a few ideas using hinges and / or flex tubes, but thats all I have. I would be very glad if some of you would try to give me some ideas for that part or just follow along the build. I would also be honored to see someone building along with me - this would also help develop this technique. Thanks for reading! ;) Edit: List of ships/building techniques mentioned in this topic: CGH's technique Sebeus I technique (example) Organic ship by Sebeus I Matterhorn by Mr Townsend Broadside bending by Kabel (visible towards the stern) Revenge by MayDayArtist Bumblebee by Kurigan El Gran Grin's by CGH Dunkleosteus technique

Hi, LEGO pirates fans. This is my next creation. To build it I combined 7416, 6286, 70413 It seems, there are no stairs in any pirate sets in 2015. LEGO designers were more attentive to such details before. I know it because I've been collecting LEGO sets for more than 25 years now. Every time I create something, I wonder how other LEGO fans like it. If you like my creations you can support them in LEGO ideas. C & C are welcome You can find it in LEGO ideas. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/144478 http://www.us.lego.c...ee4d26d?index=1 I updated the ship in LEGO Galleries. Hope you like it. Waiting for your comments. https://lh3.googleus...gCCo/s576/1.jpg I updated it in LEGO ideas. Waiting for your opinions I made it longer and it has 12 guns now. C&C are welcome

Hello and welcome to the presentation of the latest acquisition of MAESTRO! Due to the increasing size of our fleet we felt like it was time to have some more bigger armed vessels to protect our convoys. So I sent my engineers off to develop a frigate that could carry a decent amount of guns for us! In a very short amount of time they managed to put together this ship, which will sail under the command of Captain Ben Zwitsers, who is under the command of Lady Elysabeth of the House of Drondil(Titus V). Lady Elysabeth has also decided to name our first Frigate Dragon's Revenge, more about that later. ________ A few days ago I had given myself the challenge to build a frigate in under 24 hours - and I think I've succeeded in about 19. That's 6 more hours for improvements I might make once I have time to build again:P So, here are the pictures: Sailing' with the wind! Ready to fire a broadside? The stern castle closed gunports and a view at the rigging - I think I did pretty well considering I was limited in time and ran out of string:P As I don't own the Transferata I can only picture the Dragon's Revenge with one of Titus V ships, the Arkady. And together with the other of my ships - well, the smallest amount of them are actually in my hands:P Sorry for terrible editing, I just wanted to have them all in one picture. So, a quick overview over the facts: 11 hours building the ship 4 hours rigging 3 hours sails 1 hour crew 20 guns on the gundeck 6 smaller guns on the upper deck 2 bowchasers Captain Ben Zwitsers Owned by Lady Elysabeth(Titus V) Build by the Monezterrell' Shipyards (might be coming at some point in the future :P) Trade company MAESTRO current crew consists of 25 men, but could easily go into the range of 40 For now we'll license it as a class 5HA, but likely upgrade it at a later point to a higher class once those are public; I expect this to be a class 7(L)A, even if I would have to add a few more guns for that :P Some notes: the masts and rigging are not entirely accurate (2 sections instead of 3, rigging going to the sides of the platforms instead of to the masts; also the curve for the gundeck is a bit to strong. Those are the things that I'll definitely not fix in the remaining 5 hours, but if you have any other suggestions I might make use of those once I have time again.

Hey folks, This creation was finished in 2012, among with the rest of my fleet of 8 vessels. 6 of these ships have been built in parallel using some exciting new techniques that I boldly labelled "nextgen" as it took build quality to a whole new level. Essential features are a innovative hull technique (that essentially show I could have done it without prefabs, retaining only the lower parts), complete accessible interior, and drastically improved sails and rigging. For some reasons I never posted any of these ships, so tonight I just took my smartphone and made a start. Concorde is a 32-gun Frigate which was modelled after French ships from roughly 1760-1780. The colour scheme, sail plan and size and gun count are roughly historically accurate. However, she still offers herself to all kinds of play and postures, because I believe a Lego creation should be good for more than just first looks. Enjoy!

I would like to present my first ship, out of what will hopefully end up as a fleet of many more! Her name is L'Aurelié, she's a 44-gun heavy frigate. On her lower-deck she carries 28x 24 pounder long guns. On her upper deck she carries 16x 18 pounder long guns, interchangable for carronades! (Not yet designed). Of these cannons, 2 of them are in bow chase and another 2 in aft chase configuration. Overall she is about 110 centimeters long with bowsprit included. On the waterline she is about 80 centimeters long. At her tallest point she is 72 centimeters tall. Thematically I went with the flags and ensign of the Russian navy in the 18th century, as I just thought these flags looked cool and fit the colours of the ship quite well! The printed flags on top of the masts I got from Brickprint in the Netherlands, the large flag at the rear is just a small table flag I took apart with only the flag part remaining. Sadly, she has no sails and will not get them either, as due to the place she is displayed is right below my AC-unit, meaning that whenever it's blowing air it would essentially mess up or even rip off the sails in the worst case scenario... As such, I have decided to not do sails on her. (Which fits my "agenda" anyways as I don't have proper sewing capabilities to make actually nice looking sails anyways) I hope you guys enjoy her! She'll be sailing around the Brick Seas too over at the BoBS page, for her story, please click this link! L'Aurelié L'Aurelié L'Aurelié L'Aurelié For some more pictures, please see the album below, if anyone wants more close-ups or anything, let me know and I'll happily take some more! I'm aware some pictures are quite dark, the lighting is sadly never really good here in my apartment... :( It's either full sun so the glare is way too extreme, or too little sun, resulting in some darker images... https://flic.kr/s/aHsmVP4s9L

Hello! It's been awhile. But I am back at it again. This time going back to a previous build to build it in real bricks. I give you my SHIPtember(ish) progress (if years of no activity in a single build count LOL). So far I have 90% of the stbd side complete. It was more a matter of organizing all the 7000-something bricks I got for it. My last point working on it was making the Warrior drones and one engine back in 2019. Stopped as I got burnt out. But near the end of August I started building again after buying 3 hardware organizing boxes. Separated all I had into those and things sort of flowed together as I figured out how to use the instruction setting in Stud.io. Enjoy! Oilskin Johnny was nervous. More than usual. Apparently he was Captain of the Ship. He was pretty sure captains shouldn't be afraid of their crew. The casual violence, greed, and maybe the worst case of scurvy he'd ever encountered. The Captain's quarters were cozy. Johnny was sure the crew would make themselves at home. He planned on sleeping in the dinghy. La Rongeuse was a pretty ship with an impressive broadside. The chains were an early attempt at a simple beakhead. Stern shot. I really like how the rat detailing turned out. As the time for his cruise approaches, Oilskin Johnny is wondering if he can somehow avoid the whole business. I have not licensed the ship yet; I'm interested in trading the ship license for a large property. Let me know! You can check out more pictures (including guns out/in shots) here IRL Build discussion.

A 20-gun frigate assigned to hunting those pirates! Also carries a treasure chest, for those who dare... Or perhaps the appearance of a ship like this has forced the pirates into hiding? This is an extremely ambitious design with a smoothly curving hull built on a sturdy technic frame and a detailed, Minifigure-friendly, interior. I have built many sailing ships in LEGO before, and this is my best work so far, including all the techniques and features that I always wanted to include. Vote now if you want this design to be officially produced by LEGO as part of the BrickLink Designer Program: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-3/1167/Imperial-Frigate-Concordia The 16 brick-built cannons on the gun deck can individually slide back and forth and all the gun ports can be closed when the cannons are in the back position. The capstan is also attached to a string reel and can be made working. Further details below deck include the galley, storage compartment and captain's cabin. Most of the top deck can be removed to access the gun deck. Minifigures can stand below deck and all gaps in the hull are filled. I also made a video to show the building experience, including the entirely brick-built & smoothly curving hull: More pictures can be found on the BrickLink submission page: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-3/1167/Imperial-Frigate-Concordia VOTE NOW

Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 9 Twin Ion Engines (TIE) Max Speed: 2,670 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 57% speed of light The rear of the ship features two movable arms to increase the amount of engines from five to nine, bringing the vessel up to it's full speed and maneuverability parameters. THATCHER - assault carrier (set 75106 MOD) Name: Thatcher Owner: Lego Empire Model: BKY Class Assault Carrier Designer: Imperial Design Dept. Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 3 Boosted Output Twin Ion Engines (BO-TIE) Max Speed: 2,770 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 63% speed of light The rear of the ship features three supercharge BO-TIE engines (Boosted Output Twin Ion Engines) that are cutting edge when it comes to light speed percentage. However, they are temperamental and have never been tested to their full power of 63% of the speed of light... usually they cap it at about 56% to keep the fleet moving at the same speed as it's slowest member. NOTES on the fleet In reality, these ships were originally Lego sets remade in LDD on Eurobricks that I modified either a lot (set 9515 The Malevolence) a little (75106 Assault Carrier), or somewhere in between. (75158 Combat Frigate) They were originally recreated by these Eurobricks users: ADHO15, (for the Malevolence in the middle) ArmstrongYong (for the assault carrier on the right), and TheNerdyOne (Combat Frigate on left) before being modified by me. No LDD file will be made available for now, but the real life pictures (and the file) will be put up as soon as I build them, around the start of November. That's all for now, and if you have any thoughts, complaints or questions, feel free to ask!
