The Hummer H1 is one of the most iconic vehicles ever created. I don't know if there is anyone who doesn't know this car, even though it premiered a long time ago. This vehicle has always been on my list to build, although at a very distant position. Thinking about another alternative to the 42177 set, I started to wonder if it is possible to build a Hummer from it. I managed to do it, although not without problems... The Hummer has a very characteristic design. The chassis is basically a frame, four wishbones and a V8 engine. The biggest challenge was building an independent suspension. The original set has a rigid axle at the back so I was missing one CV joint. However, I managed to build a custom one. I added a LOW/HIGH gearbox and a central diff lock. Due to the length of the wishbones and the two different diffs in the axles, it was not possible to make a rear axle lock. This is not a problem, because I wanted a realistic ground clearance of the vehicle, which is 6 studs. When building the V8 engine, I was inspired by the new Koenigsegg Jesko set. The design is very simple and compact but looks great. When I finished the chassis, it was time for the rest. The Hummer is quite large and I was worried whether I would have enough bricks to build the entire body. When I started building it a little after 8:00 PM, I got so caught up in it that I didn't take my eyes off the bricks until 5:30 AM the next day I already had a prototype of the body and I knew that there would be enough bricks. However, later I had to rebuild the sides of the vehicle. The prototype had angeled door pillars, but it turned out that they were problematic when opening the doors. The new version is much more solid and the doors open without any problem, and are additionally attached at the bottom and top. Hello everyone! I am a recently new EB forums member (joined in 2020). I am a college student in the US pursuing Mechanical Engineering. I really enjoy building vehicles and mechanisms with Lego Technic to help visualize the ideas in my head and the designs I learn about from other people. I wanted to create this topic so I can record my older mocs and have a place to keep some current ones and W.I.P.'s as well. I will start adding more old pictures to this topic as I have time. I hope you enjoy all of these old (some finished, some not) M.O.C.'s of mine from my passionate hobby in Lego:) To get started, here is one of my oldest mocs to date, the R34 Wasp Jet (I made that name up btw): I have some other mocs from that era that I will share pictures of, but I have to transfer them from my camera SD card to my BrickSafe:) First I will share some other mocs that I have uploaded pictures of to my BrickSafe already. Here is an old Hummer W.I.P. I never finished... lol. I was waiting to buy some of these parts for the front axle wheel hubs. (sorry for weird camera angles) (note the use of a technic bushing as a differential lock selector ) Here is my one and only Battlebot. It is powered by two PF XL motors with a 24:1 gear ratio (worm gear to 24-tooth). I designed it as a big version of the 2x3 slope brick, but I have no idea if I actually created it at an accurate scale ratio, lol. I could have added a caster wheel towards the front, but I never got around to that. I used it against my brother's Mindstorms EV3 bot that he created which was 6x6 and my bot worked excellently. The Mindstorms just kept losing wheels and could not tip over my bot. The downside was that I did not create any attack mechanisms, so was really just playing defense the whole time:) -
Set 10265 probably needs no introduction to anyone. A fantastic model with a great ratio of the quality and quantity of pieces to the price. Initially, I bought it with the idea of placing it on a shelf. Until the firas popped out with his rebuild version of the Mustang current generation. Despite a few shortcomings, his model definitely makes a wow effect, given that it's a rebuild of this shortcoming. I had quite a lot of ideas for making another car and all of them became a nightmare for me. I completely couldn't reconcile the quick-end bricks with the sensible look. For example, when building a BMW M3 E46, after using about 80% of the parts, I had only half the car. Fortunately, I quickly abandoned Shelby Cobra, discovering that someone had already built a pretty cool one. There was also supposed to be a Dodge Viper, but then it seemed impossible to reproduce them from the available bricks. I am currently doing a second try on the Viper and this time it should wiek. However, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't make a constructing anything sensible. The smaller scale turned out to be beneficial. Instead of the standard width of 16 studs, I focused on something at 14, or maybe 12. I considered a few off-roaders and finally I choose Hummer H1. A supposedly smaller model should solve the limited supply of parts. Unfortunately not with the car body. Doors and root i was made from rest of scraps. On this scale, it was also a problem to mount a torsion axle. Copied one from set dropped out because it is too wide. I managed to slim it down a bit, but it had a negative impact on the stability of whole the structure, not to mention the visual values. I gave it up and ended up with a dummy engine and shock absorbers. The cabin is also quite conventional. Fortunately, the model itself resembles the original from the outside, and nobody has any problems with recognizing what kind of car it is. The whole thing is stable and the model can be moved forward and backward. Real level expert. Hi folks, Just found this cool crations on Levi Movie channel. Looks like chassis and axles are based on 9398 model, may be i am wrong... And those bodies are detailed copies of real cars
