The Marvel set 76297 “Dancing Groot” was exactly what I like...and under the Christmas tree this year. A little more movement in the arms and a few extras, but shouldn't be missing... Video Link:

Here is my review on LEGO Marvel 76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle: THE GOOD: Good looking jet and fun build consider the size of the set. Exclusive minifigures of new iteration of MCU characters. THE NOT SO GOOD: unjustifiable pricing. Based on the upcoming movie, Captain America Brave New World. LEGO once again delivered another Marvel set that is ridiculously priced. Put pricing aside for a moment, the set itself ain't bad to be honest. Given the size of the set, the jet has a pretty fun build with great use of parts to create some colour patterns & design. It also look pretty good, however how well it matches the one in the movie cannot be verified for now given the movie is not out until FEB. All minifigures are currently exclusive to this set. All have good qualify print, I particularly like Sam here. Although I do feel the earlier variant in CMF series is far more superior. Good to get the new falcon, I do feel they could use a better helmet as current design doesn't feel sleak enough. Red Hulk is good to have but it basically a green hulk figure in RED. Given the cotent of this set, if this was under $60NZD, it will be a great fun set. BUT, this set is currently retailed at $100NZD, even if LEGO gives me 20% discount it still overpriced. Unfortunately, this set is currently exclusive to LEGO Store in New Zealand so there is no chance to get discount at least for now. While as a MCU fan, this is probably a set you would want but due to the price, it's hard to justify the purchase. With the underwhelming reception from the trailer and a lot of negative reports surrounding the production, it's unlikely the movie will do well and this set will be popular. So there may be a chance this get a 50% off clearance in the future.

Here is my review on 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion: THE GOOD: Looks great standalone with lots of areas to make the set extremely lively. An easter egg on the famous Wolverine meme. Gambit minifigure. Great Sentinel build. THE NOT SO GOOD: The 3 half base plates configuration makes it difficult to transport given the the top levels not having any connection to the section next to it. Also have visible gaps some times between the section. If you own earlier version of the charecters minifigiures. the minifigs selection might disappoint you. Doesn't fit with other modulars in terms of its size. It's one of my most anticipated sets this year and while it has some issues, I still enjoyed the build and like the completed model. First as a standalone piece, it looks very good with tons of details both around the courtyard and the exterior of the mansion. It has lots of areas ready for some battle effects, and joints allow you to place minifigures to pretend flying. This allows the build to look very lively. Personal preference is to have it more static, and you can easily do that by replacing some of the bricks. The interior is also packs with details and easter eggs despite it does feel a bit tight with the spaces. Highlights for me are the lab, main hall and the danger room. The dorm & class room are just a bit too small but still have some cool references. And rarely for a D2C set, it also features some exciting play features like the exploding roof. The building experience is not at expert level and is quite straight forward but the moment you noticed a reference it increases the enjoyment. Now, if you place this next to a standard modular, or even all the marvel ones, it does feel the odd one out. But if LEGO decides to go with same scale, I do not think the 3 x half base plates configuration would work and it will significantly increase the piece count and price. The minifigures are great, it's nice to finally have Gambit, unfortunately his cards are stickers which is not helpful if you keep switching between effect or simply holding in Gambit's hands. I did not buy the X-Jet, so I'm very satisfied with the minifigs included, for some this could be repetitive as you get Cyclops and Rogue again despite the versions in this mansion have more details. Some of the noticeable flaws apart from lack of rooms and space, is the 3 base plates configurations. While the middle and the section of each side are fairly secured with some techniq pieces hidden in the foundation but because the playability as modular, the upper levels do not have any connected bricks which made this set a challenge to move around and also depending on how you place it, there might be visible gaps between each section. At 550NZD, it does lean towards the higher end of the price, with the Cerebro GWP being independent to this set, and this is likely to be available from retail stores, I would suggest if you are interested, try hold off until you see a sale. Otherwise if you desperately need some of the fig or the mansion and a fan of X-Men then this is a set for you,.

Here is my review on LEGO Marvel 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron: THE GOOD: Nearly perfect recreation of the iconic scene from Age of Ultron. One set and get the full Avengers line up and they are all excellent. THE NOT SO GOOD: Building experience is a bit bland. Frustration with the Barricades placement. Still no Quicksilver. As a MCU fan, any sets depict iconic scenes from the movies will immediately catch my attention. I have to admit, while I was building this set, the build wasn't the most exciting as I felt it just your typical super heroes sets. There were parts even frustrating to build like the Barricades which are a pain as it's quite lose. However, once the set is completed, I ended up liking it very much. Because it really recreates the iconic scene from Age of Ultron extremely well. The use of clear elements is smart and the way it makes the jeep tilt is also brilliant. On top of that, you get the full Avengers line up! The minifigures are excellent, I particularly like how well Hawkeye and Black Window were done. It does lack play feature though but again I believe this set is more like a diorama. And if you remove the jeep, it gives you lots of space to do whatever you want. And could be perfect to utilise to recreate a scene from Deadpool v Wolverine. At $180NZD RRP, this is not cheap but if you a like me able to found a deal like 25% off then it suddenly makes this a very good deal especially if you don't have and want the full avengers line up. And if you love MCU, definitely get this if you can. The only things I was disappointed with this set is that there is still no sign of QuickSilver ...

Here is my review on LEGO Marvel 76232 The Hoopty based on The Marvels: THE GOOD: At its size, the Hoopty is a nice spaceship with great finish and somewhat different building experience compare to your usual spaceship. Great minifigures despite missing some leg prints as per usual. Surprisingly packed interior details. Never say no more LEGO cats. THE NOT SO GOOD: Ridiculously overpriced. The opening mechanism means it needed to leave a gap at where the roof connects. The closing of the roof doesn't work as smooth. It's really hard to review this set because without discount, the price is ridiculous. Before I start, anyone actually bought this set full price? So put the pricing aside, assuming this is a $50-$60 NZD range set, it's a decent spaceship with an unique building experience, great exterior finish, surprisingly packed interior and great minifigures. I particularly like the engine thrust and the back window created using orange transparent pieces. Despite the small size, it has a very busy interior with some nice sticker utilising both stickers and mini builds. The scientific equipment builds are simple and great to be reused. It does lack play features as it only has 2 studs shooter and the opening mechanism for you to access the interior. This also leave a gap before where this connects and the rest of the roof, I accept that a some kind of vent. The opening works well but the closing of it is not smooth as the side of the front can sometimes hinders the canopy, and needed some intervention for it to close. The minifigures are great and the main reason I bought this set. As usual not all minifigures have legs print except Ms. Marvel. Both Carol and Monica are great update except I wish both has an 2nd face to show their power. Ms. Marvel is definitely the best of the 3 with detailed print on both torso and legs. Unfortunately, mid size legs might makes more sense but doesn't deny the fact the minifigures on its own is excellent. By including 2 kitten and 1 cat (Goose) as the Flerkens is great as I would never say NO to more LEGO cats. Now, back to reality, despite a 40% off deal, it still felt expensive. I just don't know how LEGO put a RRP tag of NZD$170 on a set of this size, they even use a BIGGER size box to makes it feel like a more expensive set lol. Because of the ridiculous price, I just can't find reason to recommend this. Even you are a MCU fan like me, the only time I recommend you to buy this set is when you get a very good clearance deal. No doubt the minifigures will be getting more expensive (especially Ms Marvel) as it's very unlikely we will see these characters in upcoming sets until any Secret Wars tie-ins. So if you are really into the minifigures and manage to find a good deal, then better get it now.

Here is my review on LEGO Marvel 76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure: THE GOOD: Surtur is surprisingly well done and allow you to take his horn out to create iconic scenes from the movie. Great minifigures. THE NOT SO GOOD: none. This set is a nice surprise. Originally planned to buy this just for the Fire Demons and a cheap way to get the new Thor's cape but Surtur is surprisingly well done. It looks menacing and fun to build. It also has lots of articulation points which makes it very posable. And the way the horn are designed allows you to take it down to create iconic scenes from the movie. Seriously, Immigrant song is playing in my head while I was building this. The minifigures also does not disappoint, love the fire demons and only realised after the Thor minifigure is actually exculsive to this set. And it's really a budget way to get the new cape piece which I found it works better than the fabric ones. Yes, RRP at $55NZD is probably more expensive than other LEGO sets of the same size given the Disney License but with a 20% off discount, made this set very appealing/affordable. It's actually a great small set, totally recommended if you love the MCU.

This is a modified version of the flying car LOLA from LEGO set 76077 (Detroit Steel Strikes) which is based on a vehicle the Marvel's Agents of Shield TV show. The car in the show is a 1962 Corvette sports car from the C1 generation with flying mode added, probably by Howard Stark. I redid the color scheme a bit, added the correct quad taillights of a Corvette, and strengthened the design everywhere I could using parts not available in 2017. Flying mode activated! The front of LOLA in driving mode. The inside of the car was redone in white to better contrast the red bodywork. The rear of the car. Turning the left and right dark bluish gray knobs 90 degrees folds down the wheels for flight mode. Both left and right doors open and the car seats one figure. Sadly, Agent Coulson is very expensive on Bricklink, so he won't be driving LOLA anytime soon. (although I have a way of making an approximation of him when funds allow) Thoughts?

Hi everyone, I participated on a contest of LowLUG. The contest was to build something what has something to do with: in fire and flame. Maximum 16 x 16 studs and 20 bricks high. The first build was Ghost Rider. I created the motorcycle, which is a bit too big. The street and house was realized quick. Unfortunately I did not have the parts to create a better lamppost. For more pictures visit my Flickr album Ghost Rider. Questions and feedback are welcome. Sander

This is my MOD/MOC of the Milano. I originally did it just after seeing Vol. 2 in the summer, but I thought you guys might appreciate it. https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/od/klexr6mv7nks.jpg I originally planned just to swap colours and update the cockpit, but as I worked I decided to improve and expand more parts of the ship. https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/a0/i07c2bn732n8.jpg More Guardians meant even more accessories, so I added cupboards and holds under the wings. https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/mu/u1xh6xfggzzh.jpg https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/hx/emkpmq1cnis3.jpg How could I not represent this bit? https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/at/tffc8rt332q2.jpg The updated interior. https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/ni/9mz9ryc29g34.jpg And of course, the stereo saw some updating! https://us.v-cdn.net/5015319/uploads/editor/ig/48andfbglhyp.jpg I hope you liked it! One of my favorite movies is Guardians of the Galaxy. I still remember sitting in the theater in total awe of the ship that Peter was flying, the Milano. I knew that if LEGO ever came out with a set that I HAD to get one! And then..there was more...and more...and then Tyler Clites revealed the UCS sized version. OMG....now that's a build. So, when LEGO came out with set 76081 after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I got one...enjoyed the build. I hadn't realized that they came out with a larger build for the original movie, set 76021 which for some weird reason has bright orange accents instead of orange. I also picked up the mini Milano too. After that, I found the instructions for the UCS by Tyler Clites. I decided to go for it and shortly after that, I found the micro sized version also by Tyler Clites. I decided to replace the bright orange pieces on set 76021 with the proper orange accents as well as modify the windshield to match the others. And so, this is the result of my madness! The only thing was that I wasn't able to put the lime green "accent" piece on the micro version because it wouldn't fit without making contact with the other "claw" pieces. Any suggestions on what to do there? I have noticed that when I visited LEGO's shop@home to buy the Phantom set, it was discontinued, then I looked at a set released later on, the Wookiee Gunship, also discontinued. Is lego discontinuing sets early now?.

What monstrous threat could bring together a wizard, a kung fu master, and an immortal valkyrie? The journey of the Defenders is about to begin. I started developing this earlier in the year, and actually shot quite a bit of it before the summer. The Defenders was originally going to be one brickfilm, but as I started working on the script I realised it had the potential to be a series. This is deliberately quite fun and comical, as the series is an homage primarily the original Defenders comics from the '60s that I had been reading at the time. They're quirky, full of mystical weirdnesses, and heavy on needless exposition, all of which I've tried to make fit in this series too (to varying degrees of success). Having recently bought the Spider-Man Bridge Battle set, I thought it would be amiss not to display it and make a chaotic diorama out of it. IMG_9275 by J G, on Flickr I'm not much of a MOCer (at least not anymore), so there's not much modification apart from the Sandman's 'sand hands', taken from that awful Sandman/ Rhino set. IMG_9282 by J G, on Flickr I'm glad the bridge comes with a birds nest on top, so I could make this lame joke with the Vulture. IMG_9292 by J G, on Flickr Ben Reilly's having some trouble keeping this taxi out of the water below, though his troubles are far from over. IMG_9285 by J G, on Flickr Whilst Spider-Girl faces off against the Scorpion and Kraven, Deadpool follows in the footsteps of the Great Oily Lord Ainsley Harriott and gives his meat a good old rub. Hey everyone! Pretty new here, but just finished building out a giant expansion of 76038. Took me a few months and did it in three steps--for the first, I just bought a second set and added another floor with more Iron Legion launchers. Then, after discovering BrickLink, I sat down and with the POWER OF MY MIND and an excel spreadsheet, I attempted to add four more floors and widen the whole thing by 6 studs. And uh... that was somewhat successful? Ended up with a bunch of extra pieces and a few sections where I was short pieces and was basically very confused during the build what the hell I had planned during the planning stages. Which lead to phase three, me learning to use LDD, and building a finished model (...well... technically there was phase 3.5 when I realized I had exposed studs where I wanted tiles, whoops). Anyway! After a whole lot of work, it's finally done, and I'm pretty happy with it. Apologies in advance for the photo quality--got a tiny New York apartment, so no room to build a real photo set up. Anyway, here we go! OVERVIEW Side views of the full tower, closed. 8 floors, 2 balconies. Aunt May, in her natural habitat--stuck to a wall with webbing, in mortal danger. Also visible: Quicksilver running fast enough to scale a wall, and Spider-Woman (custom). The exposed brick is reserved for one of the Spider-People from the Bridge Battle to stand on, using the new web piece to be saving Aunt May. On the other side, Black Suit Spidey (custom), and some visitors from another world, hanging out and battlin' on the side of the tower. BALCONIES Top balcony, with an attack by Ultron, against the MCU Avengers team. I try to keep only one of each character on display (duplicates and variants are stored on the first two floors), but I made an exception for Ant Man, since I want to have micro, mini, and Giant sized versions all out, and for Spider-Man (who I justify through handwaving that Spider-Verse is happening sooooo sure, buncha Spider-people are out.) So, you can see the microfig Ant Man on the roof taking part in the main defense, and mini-fig Ant Man being overwhelmed by Yellow Jacket behind the drone tower thing. Also back there, but not super visible--Loki, Dr. Doom, and MODOK. An alliance that manipulated Ultron and Hydra into doing the main brunt of the attack? Sure! That's definitely what's going on, and not that I wanted those guys out and didn't have another place to put them really. Lower balcony, with Hydra agents (led by Taskmaster and Crossbones) scaling the walls and overwhelming the SHIELD agents there. Iron Man, War Machine and Nova are providing air support, with Miles swinging down to assist. INTERIORS - FRONT Full tower, open. In addition to hinging open like the original set does, I added the ability to pull out the front section of each floor for floors 1-4. Like a series of drawers, making getting into each floor way easier. Floors 1 & 2 are storage for minifig variants. Each floor can store two trays of sitting / small leg figures, with the top tray storing 25 minifgs, and the bottom fitting 26. So, room for 102 minifigs total. Still have plenty of room for more minifigs, so... eventually will have to add another floor for storage as we get more variants. But hopefully not for a few more years... Floor 3 - Science Labs! Doing Science! are Tony Stark, examining Loki's Staff, Hank Pym working on some micro-scale suits (a display case holding all the micro-figs), two generic scientists doing Flasks near some microscopes and computers, and Pepper trying to figure out what's wrong with this Iron Man (is it that it's a custom, because an authentic SDCC figure is way outside what I can afford? It's probably that). Also present are DUM-E with the suitcase armor at the ready, and a deactivated Dalek ('cause uh... I guess you should study some other killer robots if you want to figure out what's up with Ultron, maybe?). Tools are mounted on the walls and in a stand in the middle of the room. But not on Tony Stark's side of the wall, which is displays and some controls, and oh yeah, a big 'ol sound system. Floor 4 - Item storage. Center table has the Infinity Gems / Stones in display cases (plus the Eye of Sauron and One Ring because ehhh why not), plus helmets. Mounted on the walls are a whole bunch of guns, and the Avengers weapons--Cap's Shield, Thor's Hammer, Hawkeye's Bow, Star Lord's Elemental Pistols, and Rocket Raccoon's big eff-off gun. Also, deactivated Chitauri, Han Solo in Carbonite, The Collector (custom, because again, can't afford the real thing), and Portal 2 items--a modified Turret, Companion Cube and Chell. Shelving unit is two stories, although I don't have anything (except Aladdin's Genie Lamp) to put on the second level. Yet. Floor 5 is the Iron Legion Launchers. Has room for 12 Iron Men. Floor 6 is War Machine Launchers. Room for 9 War Machines. Includes a custom War Machine made out of the Cyberman body since I wanted to have all the windows filled out while still being able to have a War Machine out and about doing stuff in the main display. Don't have a good image of Floor 7 (you can kind of make it out in the image of the lower balcony), but it's Maria Hill and Dum Dum Duggan at some controls INTERIORS - BACK Back rooms of floors 1 & 2 are storage for Big Figs (plus Dr. Octopuses with tentacles). If you ever wonder why I don't want many more Big Fig variants to be released... well, hey, I only have room to store one more. Back Floor 3 is the medical bay, with three of the medical beds from the original set, occupied by The Mandarin, Aldrich Killian, and the Extremis Solider. Tony's just trying to help them get better. Also, the MCU Hydra soldiers I have because I need to hide them somewhere, and sticking them behind the paramedic fig works? Anyway, the medical bay is paired with the science lab in the front. Back Floor 4 is intentionally left blank for now. I'm planning to try to fit the Dr. Strange set into this space, which just counting studs in the released images... I think will work? If I can't get the portal beast in there, all the mystic junk in that set should fill this space out. Either way, Dr. Strange Mystic Junk Storage will pair with the more science-y Storage Room in the front. Also, you can see what it looks like when the floors are pulled out of the main building. Also, you can see the cut out I made for the 2x16 plates that support the floors of each floor. This is where I intially messed up in stage three of building, having these studs exposed without realizing that would mean I'd only be able to pull out EVERY floor all at once, instead of having the ability to pull out each floor individually. Floors 5 & 6 are Armour repair / construction. Floor 5 has the Space / Scuba Iron Man variants in the front, and the Iron Spider in the back, Floor 6 has the Iron Legion drones in the front and Ultron Prime in the back. They're paired with the Iron Legion launchers in the front. Floor 7 is the SHIELD command floor--Nick Fury is at the center command, flanked by SHIELD agents definitely doing important SHIELD things and not playing Galaga. Pairs with Maria Hill and Dum Dum Dugan at their control in the front. Floor 8 is a bar, staffed by Mary Jane Watson. Leads out onto the balcony, where the Avenger's party was interrupted by Ultron (that dink). FULL COLLECTION Moved the rest of my collection over to get a group shot. I've got a complete collection of everything released in the US so far, with customs of the Comic Con exclusives and Dark Phoenix and Misty Knight (because I don't have super high hopes of getting official releases of them too, and they're AWESOME.) The rest of my Marvel collection, in their natural habitat on my Comic's bookshelf. Avenger's Tower, in it's natural habitat behind my workstation. Giant Man and Hulkbuster at the base. And a final easter egg: A minifig version of my fiance, as a SHIELD agent, having a great time and ignoring all that attackin' happening just outside the protective glass... Thanks for looking!
