This secluded shrine is one of many in a large monastery complex nestled into the Heavenly Mountains of Mitgardia. This is my 5th entry into the Colossal Castle Contest XIV, for the Ice Castle category. Burg Eltz castle in Germany is one of my favorite castles, and that castle was my main inspiration for this build. My model stands 84 studs tall, and features a full interior via 2 hinging walls sections. Harburg Castle is located in the mountain range near the Nocturnus border in Mitgardia. The lord of the castle, Karsten Storrar, receives an unexpected visit from his brother Sir Glorfindel. Inside the castle the cook prepares some fresh baked goods while a few guards take their mid-day meal. "Karsten! It is good to see you again!" "Likewise, but what brings my famous little brother and Dedan the hunter to Harburg?" Karsten asked jokingly, though his tone soon shifted as he posed another question, "New tidings of the Algus in the North?" "No, the Kylma Katsella and new fortifications seem to be holding back those foes. It's danger from the east that brings me, as we've heard many reports of the Black Spire's influence in Nocturnus growing stronger. Naturally, Harburg's location on the Nocturnus border makes it an important position to have well defended. We've come to warn you and other towns and villages that their defenses should be strengthened in the face of this possible threat," Glorfindel answered. "Yes, I've heard these rumors myself and tried to prepare accordingly. Unfortunately, many of the neighboring lords and jarls feel that these rumours are unfounded." "Which is why we've come to you first," Dedan interjected, "we hoped that your influence in this region of Mitgardia might help to convince the others." "Well I'm happy to do what I can, though of course you understand the difficulty of the situation. The recent Algus threat has already weakened most towns and villages, as they sent supplies and men to fortify the North. But enough of this gloomy talk, come! The twins will be thrilled to have a visit from their uncle, and I'm sure Karin will be pleased to see you as well." And with that, the group headed into the protection and welcoming warmth of the keep. On a white backdrop: There are plenty more pictures on brickbuilt. I had fun experimenting with the cross bracing below the platform, and trying to simulate hay bales around the targets Even in the snow, Mitgardian archers continue their practice. I thought the polar bear Chima figs fit well in Mitgardia, particularly the Frozen Beyond, so I built a ice/snow fortress for them. "Svellbjorn" means ice-bear in Norse. The corner stone technique was borrowed from Andrew JN. The Svellbjorn are natives of the Frozen Beyond in Mitgardia, though their tendency to rarely venture outside their territory keeps their existence relatively unknown. Some hunters are bringing in a shark. And a fun shot, with a bit of glare off the 'ice': There are a few more pictures on brickbuilt. I may do more with the Svellbjorn in the future, I imagine them to be enemies of the Algus. C&C welcome

A commissioned model for one of the Skyrim game designers. It is based off of the actual Proudspire Manor in game, which is located in the city of Solitude, just like my previous General Goods, and Windmill. The model uses many of the same techniques as my previous Skyrim models, but I changed the stonework technique in this creation to be more parts efficient. Proudspire Manor is the home of the respected Proudspire family, in Daydelon. Plenty more pictures on brickbuilt. All C&C welcome

After building Chenonceau, I was in a bit of a micro mood, and thought it would be fun to try my hand at a micro siege workshop. The whole build is only 8×8, and includes four micro siege weapons: one ballista, two catapults, and one siege tower. Dwarves in Mitgardia have long been masters of creating devastating siege weapons. With new demand for armament to battle the Spire, these Dwarven craftsmen have put their forges to work forging powerful ballistas, catapults, and more. Just a quick 30 minute LUG speed-build that I liked enough to take pictures of and post. One of the main things I wanted to try with this build was the transition from tan to dark tan on the edges of the path, to give the impression of slush. My main goal for this little build was to experiment with some less common colors in the buildings, and a few new techniques. I’m pretty pleased with how the SNOT design of the dark red tudor building worked out. Credit for the cobblestone technique goes to Mike. This scene is my second entry into the Colossal Castle Contest XVI, for the Fantasy Siege Weapon category. I took inspiration for the landscape from the style of detailed model bases you often see for things like Lord of the Rings scenes. Mitgardian dwarves are masters of warfare, and their powerful ballistas are feared by all enemies. See more pictures on Brickbuilt. Once I figured out the ballistas, this scene came together quite quickly, and it was fun doing a larger landscape again. C&C welcome

This is my first entry into the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. If you haven't already seen it, you should really check it out. It runs through the end of December, and this model of mine is one of the prizes: The castle room interior category caught my eye this year, so I started off with that. After looking up some medieval kitchens I decided on including a series of stone arches connected by wooden rafters. The loosely connected floor tiles were inspired by Cesbrick, while Matthew Oh’s build gave me the idea of forced perspective stairs. I tried to pack in plenty of kitchen details, so be sure to check out all the images. Like most castles, Harburg has a large kitchen to produce the substantial amount of food required for the staff and castle inhabitants. Eryl and his mother, Lady Karin, visit the kitchen today to check on the preparations of a feast for some visiting dignitaries from throughout Mitgardia. While Karin is shown about by head cook Svein, Eryl takes a turn cranking the spit of meat over the fire and chats with one of the young kitchen apprentices who is about his own age. The warmth and cheerful bustle of the kitchen makes it one of Eryl’s favorite rooms in the castle. Additional pictures can be seen on Brickbuilt. Comments and criticism welcome

Before setting of from his village and family, Yngvi Arnesson accompanies his young son Erik up into the summer pastures high in the mountains. Erik is probably still a little young to be tending the families small herds alone; so Yngvi will stay with him for a while and help him settle in to his work. They are staying at one of the many huts that dot the landscape above the tree line. These huts are used in the summer time by town people from the valleys who migrate up the mountains each summer with their livestock. Made of solid stone with a grass covered roof; the hut, while being basic, is still comfortable. The rear of the hut contains a large fireplace to keep the occupants warm and prepare food. Even in summer the nights are cold at this attitude. Inside are two beds and a table. It's not much, but most of the time is spend outdoors with the herds anyway. _________________________ Hi everyone, here is a build to accompany my sign up. Hopefully I've got everything right so far. The grass roof was really the inspiration behind the build and was the first thing I built, everything thing else just sort of followed. The stonework is a technique I haven't tried before and I was hesitant at first. In the end I think it turned out really well, I like the chunky, rough feel it gives the building. The base... well I wish I had a stack of olive plates, but I don't so I tried bricks... not too sure about the result! Unusual for my builds I also did an interior, which was another nice change. Anyway I really enjoyed this build a lot, hope you do to. Any comments/criticism are very much welcome. Some additional pictures:

See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 -What Has Past- It finally felt like summer in northern Mitgardia. Wyndor knew it wouldn't last long, but winter was long enough in the north. No sense thinking about its return until you had to. While Constance had been busy in Kaliphlin and then with Charlemagne he had been busy shoring up the defenses against the Algus. This included building a fortified manor for he and his wife, Valanice. He didn't want to worry about his wife while he was off defending others. The result was Grevling Manor. Built on the outskirts of Dalig Ulv, it provided a refuge whenever he had a break from civil duties. The main gate allowed access to and from the manor, but when the snows were deepest a back door was utilized to keep from having to shovel out the gate every day. While most official business was taken care of in town, sometimes Wyndor would welcome visitors at his home. If you're ever in the area be sure to stop on by and experience good Mitgardian hospitality!

This was one of my small contributions to the Guilds of Historica display at Brickworld 2018. Kevin had extra space on his island, so I built this and one other house to fit in an Avalonian setting. We had some lights left over after making our realm for the Tree of Worlds, which allowed me to throw some inside this house to light the stained glass windows. Despite the plentiful timber in Avalonia, stone is a common material choice for the more expensive homes.
