Location: C06 Hyreal Tags: MANTIS, land vehicle, spying Double D's log 27: I must be going crazy. First I forget all of what happened in two weeks aside from a strange relic thing, and now I feel like I'm back in time, but in the future...sort of? All I know is my mission: to continue punching holes in Kawashita's barrels that hold water for their experimental hydraulic plants here on Hyreal. The barrels were the ones being extracted from Kawashita's extraction and purification plants. It seems that Kawashita decided to spread out its merchandise so that they wouldn't have single-point targets. The hovercraft, which my friend accurately called the 'hoverchair,' that I get to use kind of bounces as it moves, and it turns in a drift-like motion. It took a while to get used to, but it's now natural, and even quite fun to drive! It is much faster than any steam powered ground vehicle, and the uneven landscape didn't cause any trouble but rather made my getaways a snap! Kawashita uses landships which are far too slow to catch up to my advanced, one-person hoverchair. Once I spotted a tank, I was out and away, leaving a bunch of empty barrels behind me. Thankfully, the MANTIS™ Spyglass© really made spotting Kawashitan equipment easy as it made anything red stand out from the other colors. In fact, depending on the angle of the crystal, the spyglass could highlight most ranges of color - a real breakthrough in spying technology! I was also equipped with a sweet pistol that shot extra-large lead bullets which were perfect for making holes in all of Kawashita's barrels ~ DD out

Location: F03, Forring Tags: MANTIS, spying, land vehicle Double D's log 26: The last few weeks were a blur, but all I could remember was diving, some sort of amazing room, and then I remember appearing back at the MANTIS base.... Must have hit my head or something. Anyway, I was sent to F03 on a spying mission. Apparently Octan started some subtle operations on E01, so I was to see if I could gather any clues from Octan. I was to hack into their speeder computer systems so that we could get inside one of the Octan buildings with the security code. It took a long time to set up a signal that could capture the signals what the Octan speeders were sending. I had to get very close to the zooming speeders to catch a glimpse of a signal and then after a dozen or more speeder scans, I could piece together the signals into one code block that would open up gates and doors to Octan buildings. I liked their speeders...a lot....but I didn't let myself get too distracted from the mission. It only took 5 hours to copy the signal. Sure, I normally get things like this done in an hour, but those speeders......so sleek.... so.... fast! I need one. ~DD out

Our current mission has us documenting and planting tracers on Octan Driller Drones that are releasing pockets of Awesomenium. This isn't a difficult mission as these drones are not manned or secured, typical Octan arrogance. We were able to locate and track seven drones without resistance. Location: A06 Guinevere Tags: MANTIS, spying, military building Desert Diversion Double D's log 47: The Kawashitan commander told us of 'safe zones' where they could have temporary rest from being on the run from the Alien. We immediately hurried to one of these 'safe zone' where we were to discuss the situation.... Commander: "Hurry, get in!" Others: "MANTIS is here?! This could be our way out!" Commander: "Keep your voices down!" Dave Daring: "So what what exactly is this alien you've been talking about, and what does it do, and why are you all here?" Commander: "We don't really know. The Alien seems to be immune to blasters, yet has its own weapon, powers, I don't know, that wreaks havoc all over the place. Somehow the Alien has made a communications dome around this MANTIS facility that sends out signals of normal operation, when in reality it hasn't been operational for months. Actually, there hasn't been any activity on the planet other than normal operations for more than 5 months! According to the global records that is. Anyway, the communications dome also intercepts all outgoing messages (like the one you tried to send back up to the orbiting MANTIS Spaceship a while ago." Dave Daring: "How'd you know I sent something to MANTIS?!" Commander: "Easy, one of the Alien canisters started sending out vibrations, alerting the Alien to your general location. Thankfully, I was in the area and was able to bring you here before the Alien found you...." Dave Daring: "What does the Alien want, and why would it attack?" Commander: "That one is not so easy. Though it probably has to do with whatever the Alien is doing on the West Wing of this GU-Labs and Weapons plant. Probably making sure no one knows whatever it's up to..." Dave Daring: "The West Wing huh? Great....that's the weapons section." Commander: "You got the hologram to work! Is that for all MANTIS facilities? Having the West side the Weapons side?" Dave Daring: "Hey now, that's classified, and so is how to open these holograms." Commander: "Whatever. Anyway, we need to figure out how to get out of this communications dome to get backup." Dave Daring: "You still didn't answer my question of why you all are here." Commander: "That's classified....." Dave Daring: "Fine....why don't we just walk out?" Others: "The Alien has the perimeter armed so that anything that enters or exits the dome notifies the Alien of the enter/exit location. Dave Daring: "So why weren't we attacked then? Are you just messing with us?!" Others: "......." Commander: "Look, you were smart when you came in, you ran to different buildings expecting something to jump out at you. You didn't stay put, so you managed to escape his notice...at least, managed to escape his physical eyes." Dave Daring: "....." Commander: "Well, what about the Alien flags and canisters! If you still want proof, then.... Scout: "Sir, we're picking up a moving Alien signal about 3 warehouses away." Dave Daring: "I thought you said the canisters stop any signals?" Scout: "No, just inbound and outbound signals. They also have a relatively small radius that also detects movement. Signals that stay within the dome aren't caught by the Alien, else we would have been found already and safe zones such as this one. If only we could get word to the outside, or find a bay full of speeders! Dave Daring: "I think I might know of a way....The West Wing you talked about earlier. There is a large antenna there, probably strong enough to get through this dome." Scout: "There's no way! The Alien kind of lives at the West Wing! He'd need to be out of there for a long time for someone not to get caught." Dave Daring: "You've got two MANTIS operatives here now chief. All we need is a diversion. I'll head towards the Alien signal, and when you hear me running around here, then you know it's your time to head for the West Wing. My friend Chad here can get you there. DD out! Several minutes later....... ~ DD out To be continued! ---------------------------------------------------------------- More photos in the spoiler --------------------------------------------------------------- It was great to do a larger build again for AG and make a MOC that is viewable from all angles and include an interior. Location: A06 Guinevere Tags: MANTIS, spying Double D's log 46: Before I could report about my findings and get a group of MANTIS operatives to explore the mysterious building on Illustria, I was sent to Guinevere of all places. I was to find out why MANTIS operations have been slow to the West of the volcanoes because Kawashita now has the competitive advantage of gold mining, and we aren't sure why MANTIS equipment isn't as effective as it should be. It's not like we're in conflict in Kawashita, even the CEO noted the planet's apparent peacefulness. So far the outposts we inspected were running at full capacity, and the employees had high morale, so we moved further West towards the GU-Labs and Weapons Center. From a distance it was immediately apparent is that there had been an attack of some sort on the facility! What's more, sand was beginning to dust the surfaces of....well, everything! That means it had been like this for quite a while now. There were flags of black, white, and azure blue, and canisters of matching color in various places, but MANTIS equipment seemed to be scattered around almost as if for survival. Then I noticed helmets used by Kawashitan forces. Before my rage could surface, I heard the distinct voice of the Kawashitan general whom I retrieved planned fleet paths from back on Crentium. "Be very quiet and cautious with your steps, or you will be found by the Alien." "Aliens?" "No, the Alien. This destruction you see, it is the Alien's doing. The azure canisters you see, it's the Alien. Now that you've entered the GU-Labs complex, you're trapped with us." "Us?!" To be continued! ------------------------------------------------- Woot! I finally have a story arc going!

Octan moved it's fleet in what seems like a retreat back to sector H03. I was able to hear them very clearly due to MANTIS spying technology coupled with the very expensive equipment put into my helmet. In his conversation with some Octan guards, I overheard them talking about Octan's fleet and future strategy, but no specifics were given except that "everything that you need to know is in this file, now go, before Double D catches up to you." Was this a challenge? Well then, I accept!

Location: F03, Forring Tags: MANTIS, Spying, Military Building Double D's log 36: This week I'm on Forring, and I've been sent to gather more information about Octan (who else ) and their new chemistry experiments on accelerated plant growth. Little John was able to recover some information from his mission on E02. Unfortunately, Octan started to keep a higher profile about these plant experiments and what chemicals were being used, so more stealthy methods were required. That and the fact that Big Sal used up all of the samples John collected (maybe that's why his beard grew so much?). The chemicals in use aren't too dangerous because they are pushed around in open carts. I've yet to locate where these chemicals are being tested, but If I can follow this guy I hope to find that out. ~DD out

My mission was go to with Wheelie and stall their cameras and then paint them in MANTIS colors. A few hours later when Octan recruits came to check on them, they thought that we replaced all of their cameras with MANTIS ones, so they actually destroyed their own equipment! Location: E02 Time: 0900 hours Tags: Land Vehicle, Spying Octan has decided to transfer highly sensitive information by a fast and lightly guarded speeder. Fortunately MANTIS Secret agents knew this and were lying in wait. The MANTIS agents laid a trip wire to flip the speeder. As an extra precaution, the trap location is surrounded by additional armed MANTIS agents. [imagine that this now is the other side of the wire.] The speeder flipped over the wire, broke apart and caught fire. The orders were clear: eliminate all enemy units. MANTIS HQ never said we couldn't set the jungle on fire, though. Agent Sally takes the suitcase with highly sensitive information. The valuable information is of course the whole reason for this trap.

Location: E02, Jurin II Tags: MANTIS, spying, water vehicle No Escape by David FNJ, on Flickr Double D's log 32: Well, I think after this week Octan will finally get the message that Jurin II ain't theirs anymore. I followed the new recruits from last week and noticed they were checking a lot of small island equipment. So, I took a team with me and we followed them from a distance. Of course, it wasn't too hard with our spy tech - the stealth technology is fully integrated into many of our vehicles and computer systems. Our watercraft being a type of airship helped too because it is nice and quiet. Once we overheard the Octan recruits say it was "finally, our last stop," we made ourselves known. It was hilarious, they scrambled and ran into each other, making the confiscation of their weapons easy. After sinking their small watercraft, we then proceeded to let them know that we had followed them for the day and hence knew where all of the (unguarded) islands with that type of equipment were. We even let them be first-hand witnesses of what a few MANTIS blasters could do! We left the island and the two recruits on it. We told them we'd be back for them in 32 hours just in case Octan doesn't look for lost employees. ~ DD out ----------------------------------------- One cool feature of the airboat is the bomb-deployment. Location: E02, Jurin II Tags: MANTIS, spying, land vehicle Spying in the Lab Ruins by David FNJ, on Flickr Double D’s log 31: I was continuing my main mission about make things difficult for Octan, but this part of the mission was more subtle than last week's. Ocean seemed to be moving its weapons around the planet, and I was to find out where such weapons were being moved to, and why. I came across an inexperienced bunch who were leading a small automatic cannon that used Octan maps and sensors to move and fire at targets. Ha, obviously their scanners aren’t that great when trying to find MANTIS spies. I followed the presumed new Octan recruits through the ruins of a MANTIS lab that was destroyed when Octan first took Jurin II many months beforehand. It provided nice cover, and even creeped out the Octan recruits! “I feel like we’re being watched” “I know the feeling, but it’s by Octan satellites, so we’re safe…” “But MANTIS agents are everywhere!” “I haven’t seen any, have you?” “No, and that’s what worries me! We’ve never seen one, and they’ve slowed our operations down more than we expected!” “Well, if everyone does his part and brings our weapons to the more fortified locations instead of trying to mine in many places on the planet, not even the MANTIS spies will be able to stop our advance. Plus, our fleet is waiting on E01 for when we finally take back this planet from those bugs.” “But what if we don’t get all of our weapons back to the fortified mining facilities? Our fleet can’t penetrate this system until we have a secure place to let them land!” *scratching noises* “Um…wait! Did you hear that?” “Stop teasing me!” “No, for real this time!” I fired up an old generator that sent an eerie hum throughout the ruins, and the sound could not be traced back because the noise bounced off of the broken walls and equipment in every which direction. *eerie humming noises* “Let’s hurry and get out of here! It’s said the ghost of Big Sal lives in these ruins!” “Really?!” *CRASH* “RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" It’s too late Octan, it’s too late. ~ DD out Set remake of Shipwreck Defense for MANTIS pirate week! Location: E02, Jurin II Tags: MANTIS, spying Double D's log 30: With Octan's Fleet safely at bay, I was sent to cause some setbacks for Octan who thinks it can out-smart MANTIS and push into its newfound territory. I made defiant paths of foliage destruction and toppled Octan communication towers. Any guards were temporarily immobilized by my shock gun, and when they awake a few hours later, they will find their equipment destroyed. Share the Awesomnium planets. Okay, let's do that. Guess Jurin II wasn't part of the plan, and now Octan has declared open war on MANTIS. Let them come, let them try, let them see the power of MANTIS. Sure, I was outnumbered this mission, but that's no matter, MANTIS has the best spies around, and our new tech makes us more deadly than ever. Our cloaking devices are strong, and I can practically walk up to an Octan tower without being picked up by their radars. ~ DD out

Location: F03 Forring Tags: MANTIS, spying, land vehicle Double D's log 29: Well, the first few spying school lectures were as boring as Professor Bland's monotone speech. The only thing good that came out of it so far was the opportunity to test out some more new vehicles! I called first dibs Unfortunately we aren't up to the big stuff yet, and I was assigned to go with a hover vehicle. I picked the fastest one. The tank was sort of like a tank, but it had less armor and a lot more speed. It's great for just running through some outdoor facility and blowing up a bunch of random equipment. Okay, it doesn't really explode stuff, because this weapon melts away (by this green fire stuff) what it hits because it fires a gooey substance with laser-cannon accuracy. Overall it takes longer to destroy something, but it does more damage because the goo seeps deep into the equipment. I was lucky enough to be sent on a real mission on Forring. The Lazer-Goo Hover Tank did its job well! Why it's spelled with a 'Z' is because it's not a real laser, so they went with the z when making the name. ~DD out

"Indeed, there was somewhat of a shortage of bricks in the regulation Octan colours when we built the town I'm afraid. Though I like to think of it as cosy, rather than small." "...Some might say uncomfortably so...." "Sorry, what was that?" "I was asking why you wanted to see me sir?" "Ah yes, I wished of course, to discuss the super-secret awesomnium survey and production schedules for the next quarter. But first, do you have any issues you would like to raise?" "A couple of points if you don't mind. Firstly the change of the traffic light order from red, orange, green to orange, green red. Are we absolutely sure that was wise? There has been a 349.2% increase in traffic incidents over the past month." "Are you really suggesting that adjusting the traffic lights to the corporate colour scheme was a bad idea? It will ensure all employees truly understand and live the Octan brand!" "...or die in a hovertruck crash....Secondly, there appear to be a number of MANTIS droids and vehicles roaming the town?" "Yes, I put a street cleaning contract out to tender as, until the science boys get the gene-tailoring on the trees correct so they bloom corporate instead of yellow, pink and green, I won't have their blossom dirtying my streets. MANTIS undercut all other bidders by 20% and their JanDroid model cleaning units are most impressive. They even agreed to begin painting them Octan colours as of next month." "But aren't you worried they could be spying on us?" "Nonsense! See our security droids outside, what does it say on their uniform?" "Super Secret Police...." "Exactly, now point me to where on those MANTIS droids it says; 'Super Secret Spy Force'?" "Erm...it doesn't sir." "See, nothing to worry about! Now, the awesomnium schedules..." *Sigh* "Okay Sir, our main survey sector is ZZP-9ZA, which has shown exceptional..." Don't believe him no matter how convincing he is. Remember shoot first and don't ask questions! Goodnight..... Only 50 credits?! That's just insulting. Nevertheless, we can't stay in M.A.N.T.I.S. space. Someone will catch us eventually. Yeah... I have some... contacts... in Octan. Maybe we should hide out in their territory until we figure something out. Ok, but I need to be able to contact my people in M.A.N.T.I.S., assuming they're still loyal. I know of a remote Octan radar station on Freegate. If we can hack it, we should be able to bounce our comms through it and stay in contact with MANTIS space wherever we are in Octan space. That would be a good idea... if the M.A.N.T.I.S. fleet weren't currently in orbit around Freegate. Relax Long! I told you, this ship is theoretically completely undetectable! We'll fly right past them! I can't believe that worked. I told you! Completely undetectable! If that's true, why didn't we land next to the radar instead of at the bottom of the mountain? Err... never hurts to be careful... So you decided it was safer for us to freeze to death riding the world's slowest lift to the top instead? Much safer! There's far less chance of anyone detecting us this way. I mean, it's not as if this dumb robot is going to tell anyone about us, right? ... ... ... I feel like that was unnecessary... Finally! That took forever. It's getting dark already. Well, how was I supposed to know it had legs?! I thought it would just be at the top of the lift! There, I've attached our comms device and hacked it into their systems. At last. I hope you know how to make the lift work without that robot... Thanks for reading! C&C welcome! Pr Thaum : I will start the test right now, you only have to circle the planet Hadvice... Pr Thaum: ... the radar is in charge of the scanning. : Professor, my proximity sensors have locked something orbiting Freegate too, the scan reveal its awesomium covered, nearly the same speed and trajectory than ours, and it is very close. : We don't give a shit of this spot Hadvice, we have a radar to test ! : LOOK !! Professor look at that !!! Seems to be an Overshadowing Moth !! : an Overshadowing Moth !! You're a Bonehead Hadvice ! It is endemic of Mynderis, you must be wrong ! Hadvice : Look professor we're on it ! It's really an overshadowing Moth, with the wings filled with awesomium Pr Thaum : Incredible, you were right, What hell is it doing here !!! Quick, Hadvice, we have to catch up with it !! Hadvice : Full Throttle, it will be easy ! Hadvice: Hu ! but... but... Hadvice : It's an undercovered spaceship professor !!!! It's not an Overshadowing Moth !! Pr Thaum : What a pity !! Hadvice : However, it tries to escape, strange for a fighter who seems to be well armed. Pr Thaum : No, it's logical, it can't attack us, we're too close, if we explode, it will too, don't let him go Hadvice Hadvice : Gosh !! It's diving into Freegate Atmosphere, shall we Pr ? The ionosphere is very cloud cluttered... Pr Thaum : Yes Hadvice !! Yes, let's go ! Hadvice : I'm on it ! But a little bit too close i'm afraid... I'm just over it... Pr Thaum : upside down Hadvice !! upside down ! Hadvice: and now, professor ? Pr Thaum : diplomacy Hadvice, diplomacy... Hadvice : Greetings ! Pr Thaum : watch the birdie ! KLIK !
