DoubleT Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 The first movie im going to review is the movie Troy. Its with Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom and Peter O'Toole. Whats the movie about? Well the battle of Troy ofcause lol. The movie starts with Paris (Orlando Bloom) and Helen going to Troy, to escape from Helen's husbond. From there the action starts, I will not write any spoilers, so you better can enjoy the movie :) Brad Pitt is fine as Achilles. But its Eric Bana that steals the screen as Hector. I hope come oscar time he get an Nomination. The soundtrack is really good. James Horner is the composer. Very greek and Beutiful. The movie it self is not as great as Gladiator, but is great entertainment. I give it 3 Euros out of 5. Best Dialog: Hector: No son of Troy will ever submit to a foreign ruler! Agamemnon: Then every son of Troy shall die... (Foto credit MovieWeb) Quote
ApophisV Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 i heard that the movie isn't that great how it is advertised... the battles are superb, but the story isn't... but that are only rumors of others, i hope to see it in the next days and weeks (the problem is, that our big cinema center had to close because of a lack of money, so we have only two small cinemas left here in aachen... :( ) i'm really interested in the topic troy because i read the book "Die Feuer von Troja" by Marion Zimmer Bradley (translated "the fire of troy", but i'm not sure if this is the original title....) several times and its one of my all time favorite books!!! ;) Quote
jonfett Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 The trailers and reviews I have seen of it look brilliant but again, I have not had the time to go and see it yet. The battles look really great but would yo say they are bigger and better than on Lotr?? Jon. Quote
Neverroads Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 The battle scnes, as are the overviews over the city and everything is beautifully made. But in my opinion the movie is not comming to "life". It doesn't grip you like Gladiator did. The caracters are a bit flat, the dialogue slightly silly and well... it's just is a movie that tries to be "epic" but just doesn't reach that level. But yes, the stages are beautiful, the effects overwhelming, costums beautiful... it's just that movie is missing something :( Casper Quote
ApophisV Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 I finally saw it yesterday!!! But i'm not really sure how to think about it... There are many changes to the original story, and i'm missing some characters from the ilias.... first of all, its all a little bit large, but thats the modern way of making movies, exaggerating EVERYTHING to make the biggest and best (visited) film ever.... e.g. was the original troy much smaller than the movie troy... and i'm missing kassandra, the twin sister of paris.... and aeneas wasn't only a kid walking through the burning troy, he was also some prince or something like this (i can't remember exactly...) oh, and he took the paladion with him, not the sword (please correct me, if i'm, wrong)... oh, and the war took many years, not two weeks... ;) all in all a very nice movie, many aspects of the original, but nonetheless missing some. its okay as an interpretation of the story, but should NOT be shown in history lessons... ;) Quote
