Robert8 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 I was thinking about a Castle theme based on the Norse Myths. Each set represents one of the 9 worlds (I made up the numbers. Asgard would be a D2C set ) 9762 Muspelheim - The Demons Realm 9763 Vanaheim - The Sorceress Realm 9764 Niflheim - The Ice People Realm 9765 Jotunheim - The Giants Realm 9766 Helheim - The Undead Realm 9767 Svartalfheim - The Dark Elves Realm 9768 Ljosalfheim - The Light Elves Realm 9769 Midgard - The Humans Realm 10293 Asgard - The Gods Realm Quote
Gibbon Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 A possible new Castle line needs to have fantasy elements to make me happy. I would glady see a dark gothic fantasy theme coming but the best should be to see something close to Heroes of Might and Magic becoming Lego reality with a couple of totally different factons and creatures. It should be interesting to have smaller sets that could be put together to build a bigger Castle or Town of the different factions of them just like the building upgrades in the PC game. Like that by collecting all the sets of a faction you could build their Castle. Quote
SirBlake Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 1: modularity. The ability for sets to connect in the 80's was one of the best parts. 2: good heraldry designs. See Kingdoms for an example of great execution. Even the same tired lions vs. dragons worked with solid design. 3: civilian presence. It doesn't have to be over the top, but MMV is one of the most highly rated sets for a reason. That's it, that's all. Unless of course I have to vocalize that tanks and spacey junk need not be part of it. That should be a given. Quote
6ix Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 If Lego secured the D&D license, that would be awesome! It has a lot, A LOT, of possibilities and settings. They could milk that for years. Quote
Space Police XVIII Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Some fantasy elements would be nice, to give it all some flavor. Psychotic-looking bad guys with lots of red and dark red for flavor going up against knights in elaborate armor, with almost-humanoid robot sidekicks. Strange vehicles are a must, including maybe a fortress on tank treads. Lots of neon orange to offset the dreary gray castle walls. Quote
thetang22 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I'd prefer they stay away from liscenced themes for the Castle genre. Lego already owns great source material with their previous generations. Revisiting some of the classics would be great. Either: 1. A return to Fantasy Era with a focus on expanded factions (goblins and elves, for example) 2. A return to 80s/90s factions with a full-on modern day revival (multi-year) of Crusaders, Black Falcons, Woodsmen, Black Knights, Wolfpack Quote
egg roller Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I totally second greek or roman inspired lines. With or without mythological aspects. Also they could do hercules and his adventures. Could you imagine? Gorgans hydras, nymphs, et al? That would be awesome. I realise TLG takes some amount ofcalculated risks, see nexo knights, but really they stick to a formula that works for their bottom line. I would like them to take the risk on greek/roman stuff. They might be surprised. Even small first wave to test the waters. Finally, STOP the red vs blue. Please!!! There are almost literally unlimited other colors to choose from. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I would like to see all these groups in a theme: Fright Knights: A more gothic version with dark colored, tall spooky castles and Night Lord being a Vampire, his minions being, Werewolves, Gargoyles, Willa the witch, Dragons and Zombies. Black Falcons: A group of rogue Knights, having smaller castles, and only humans. Forest Men: A group of Forest Dwellers, like Robin Hood, Elves and fairies, having Tree forts and Elvish buildings in a forest setting. Dragon Masters(Dragon Hunters): A small group of Knights with superior armor, lots of weapons and battle wagons, sets would come with Dragons. Royal Knights: The Knights of the King, The biggest castles, The King, The Queen, The Princess, Knights, some Elves, a few Dwarfs, and some Civilians. Wolf Pack: The Thieves and Assassins of the groups, Their base would be ruins of an old castle re-enforced with wood, there sets would mostly be them ambushing people. Civilians: The most picked on of the group, all civilian sets would have some of the other groups helping or picking on them. Edited September 21, 2015 by Dr.Cogg Quote
lego tripper Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 in order of preference: 1. Yellow Elves 2. Black Falcons 3. New factions (no more Lions and Dragons for a while please!) 4. Forestmen 5. Civilians Quote
dzidek1983 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Dungeons & Dragons They already have all the figures needed to play a RPG team of adventurers exploring hostile places looking for treasures and fame. You would have them all orc barbarians, goblin minions, wizards, halfling rogues, dwarven fighters, human paladins, elven rangers. A great chance for fun with making sets to tell about your team's adventures. Quote
AmperZand Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) If Lego secured the D&D license, that would be awesome! It has a lot, A LOT, of possibilities and settings. They could milk that for years. I would love that too, but it isn't currently possible. D&D is owned by Hasbro which also owns Kre-o and there is already a cross-over between the two. I don't like the look of Kre-o minifigures including the D&D ones and Hasbro has bungled the fusion of the two lines. TLG could do a much better job. But unfortunately, TLG won't be able to pick up the D&D licence until the D&D-Hasbro-Kreo connection is broken, for example, by Hasbro selling the D&D brand. Given that D&D LEGO is extremely unlikely, I favour a new Castle line with lots of classic fantasy, i.e. Fantasy Era 2. Alternatively, I could go with a line based on Greek mythology especially if it had lots of minifigs and moulded monsters. Edited September 21, 2015 by AmperZand Quote
dzidek1983 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Darn it. Well i would vote Fantasy Era too. D&D has just rights to a certain gameplay setting. On the 2nd place i would like to see new Wolfpack sets. Quote
KristinnK Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I would love an expert level/ultimate collectors series castle. 2000+ piece count, real thick walls, not thin panels, a central keep, maybe with an interior. Slap a $200 prize tag on it and I'll take two. Quote

x105Black Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I'd like to see a combination of all the best things from Castle and similar lines from the past, with a few new things and updates. Basically Classic 80's - 90's Castle with elements of Fantasy Era, Fright Knights, and Lord of the Rings. Here's my (ridiculously improbable) list: Factions Multiple Kingdoms (Updated Black Falcons and Dragons preferred, possibly also Lions and New Heraldry, or 1978 reimagined) Forestmen (Human Rangers, possibly Elves as well, in moderation) Wolfpack (Human Rogues and Thieves) Evil Fantasy (Trolls, Goblins, and Orcs) Structures Castles (1 for each Kingdom) Strongholds (Multiple Forts and Fortresses) Towers (Perhaps a Magic Tower) Wooded Outpost (For Forestmen) Wolfpack Den (For the Wolfpack, obviously) Civilian Locations (Marketplace, Blacksmith, Butcher, Baker, Mill, Farm, Inn, Tavern) Vehicles Carriages (Royal, Military, and Civilian) Merchant Carts (Trading Carts and Carriages) Sea Vessels (War Ships, Merchant Boats) War Chariots (Military) Siege Engines (Nothing too silly) Creatures (Full Molds) Dragons (Not Brick-built) Wolves (Ride-able like Wargs, and normal dog types) Deer (Made like Horses with interchangeable antlers) Unicorns (With horns in the head, not in armor on the head) Pegasus (Using the new Wings from Friends) Gryphons (Maybe inspires a new Faction to replace the Lions, size of old Dragons) Centaurs (Minifigure Torsos attach) Horses (with Barding and Armor) Characters Kings (Plural) Royalty (Queens, Princes, Princesses) Magic Users (Wizards, Witches, Sorcerers, Sorceresses, Druids) Knights (Various Factions and Heraldry, not Jellybeans defending 1 King) Soldiers (Guards, Warriors) Raiders (Brigands, Bandits, Assassins, Thieves) Fantasy Races (Elves and Dwarves, in moderation) Evil Races (Trolls, Goblins, and Orcs, in moderation) Equipment Swords (Broadswords, Cutlasses, Knives, etc, all Metallic or Pearled Greys) Shields (Updated Classic Heraldry, Variety of Shield Molds like Classic, CMF Egyptian, Round, Rectangle, etc) Armor (Classic Mold, new Prints, Heraldry not needed on Armor) Archery (Bows and Quivers, preferably in Black and Dark Brown) Crossbows (Classic and New) Colors Dark Colors, not Bright Dark Brown Dark Grey Dark Green Dark Red Dark Blue Dark Purple Chrome Gold Coins I know, that's asking a lot. I think they could do a lot with this, though, and release this stuff over several waves. Introduce a few Factions to start and build out from there. 1st Wave: Small Civilian Carriage - Raided by Wolfpack on Wolf-back. Gryphon Knight defender. Civilian Blacksmith - Small, 2 story building. Blacksmith is maybe a Dwarf. Supplying Black Falcon soldiers. Joust - Medium set with Black Falcon, Dragon, and Gryphon Knights in a friendly joust. A fourth Faction would be welcomed. Forestmen's Outpost - Forestmen with attacking Goblins. Possible Elf allies. Gryphon Castle - Gryphon Royalty and Wizard with attacking Goblins and Bigfig Troll. Ride-able Gryphon included. I went small on wave 1 with only 5 sets. I could see additional small or medium sized sets and army builders. The next wave could expand upon that by adding a Black Falcon Stronghold, a Sorcerer's Tower, a Dragon Castle with Dragon, etc. I think it would do really well, appeal to a broad fan-base, and even appeal to children. It could even tie-in with a new TV show, think Game of Thrones or D&D for kids. Also, each year, there should be an Ultimate set that is comparable to the Modular Buildings we see each year for the City theme. I know, this is way beyond wishful thinking, but I wanted to be thorough. I probably still left some things out. Edited September 22, 2015 by x105Black Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I'd like to see more character in the designs of the minifigures, make them look more like individual's with a story, also use all new the drawf beards in new colours etc. I'd like to see more originality with the monsters; I Iiked the old Vikings line for having different types of dragons and the the sea serpent etc, Lego should push the envelope beyond the generic dragon vs knight. Let's have a set with a classic giant or Cyclops wilding a big club smashing a castle turret, or repaint the cave troll green with new printing to make a swamp ogre. Explore Norse, Greek and medieval mythology, how about having a centaur faction? Edited September 21, 2015 by Bugbot2008 Quote
Blakstone Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Ideally, I would have Vikings vs Knights. You could have Vikings shields, a Viking hall, as well as siege towers on the Vikings side. The knights would have a wolf heraldry (think Stark on Game of Thrones) will a village, a modular castle where you can add extra wall segments (think Uruk Hai Army). But with Nexo Knights, I don't see returning to regular knights any time soon. Perhaps a straight Vikings or Roman line would be possible. Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Fictional Castles. For example: a new Hogwarts Castle set. Quote
Jreacher Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I would want wolfpack, and forestmen to come back. Along with the red lion knights from kingdoms. Basically I want the castle theme of the late 80's and early 90's. Just with markets and farms added. Until Lego comes back with WP, FM and RLK. Im just gonna go back into the dark ages. Because all they have out now stinks. And I refuse to buy lego that is not castle or pirates. Sets based off Heroica would cool I wouldnt mind sets based of this either. In fact if sets like this came out Id buy them. Quote
x105Black Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Heroica would actually be a great idea for a theme. I would love to see that. It's like LEGO D&D. I would hope that this group of heroes would travel to different Kingdoms, like those of the Black Falcons, the Dragons, and other Classic Castle Factions. Interactions with civilians, Forestmen and Wolfpack would be amazing. Quote
Mr. President Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) Heroica would make a great castle theme. I wonder if they shied away from minifigure sets because of the superficial similarities with Lord of the Rings (the goblin army, &c), or if they never had any planned at all. I would love it, though - as you said, it could have all the things you could in a Dungeons and Dragons line, but without the need for licensing. Edited September 22, 2015 by Mr. President Quote
SirBlake Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Heroica would be fantastic, and a perfect example of a theme that wouldn't be rehashes of classic castle, could still have named characters as TLG insists kids need nowadays, and still not be full of tanks and other nonsense. Each set could be a different adventure: Explore the spider cave Find the treasure in the dungeon Defend the castle Travel through the haunted woods Battle the sea monster from the ship Climb the sorcerers tower Ride the gryphon Battle the dragon Supply your adventurers at the market (and defend the townsfolk) These are just off the top of my head.
