Posted September 20, 201410 yr Having a browse on ebay uk and came across a seller selling Ewok village and bidding was at £100 and finishing soon, description said put together once and packed back away, thought id look at his other items for sale and he is selling x18 same sets all with same description. Reckon this is a scammer making a fast buck?
September 20, 201410 yr Author Either that or his boxes dropped out of the truck... 8 have now ended but he has loads more tomorrow, some only went for £40 which if was legit was a bargain as said 100% complete with minifigs.

September 20, 201410 yr Agreed, I made a max bid on one of the items, just to see what would happen. Within minutes I was outbid, whereas the other items are all still much much lower than my max bid was. What's the betting I'll have lost it by the one bid? (and for extras, that I'll get an email saying the winner pulled out and am I still interested?) It's a laugh, innit?

You pay them, wait a few days to receive your item, in the mean time they have transferred the other 12 payments into some bank account or bought stuff online using paypal as their payment method, and will somehow recoup the money without paypal being able to take back the money meaning they have to pay you back for the loss and lose the money themselves. Sure, they can probably afford it, but it is just wrong. Completely wrong. Especially when it is as blatantly obvious this person is in no way going to honour all them 10236's...
September 20, 201410 yr And isn't there a risk of having your account flagged or something by purchasing these items? I thought I heard somewhere you wouldn't be able to order anything yourself instead of the scammer getting blacklisted. It doesn't pay to be honest, that's for sure. But I'll still choose that over thievery.
September 20, 201410 yr UCS Lego is a shill bidding mine field... I have never seen as many less than 5 feedback bidders as I do on UCS auctions. As soon as I see these on the bid history I walk away. I never use max bid as they will retract or send a second chance offer to get ripped off... Yeah... this reminded me of the thread over in Community regarding a larger modular listing and it turned out to be a scam... The buyer actually got the set although the seller had purchased it with stolen card details. I think someone said already... 'If it seems to good to be true it probably is!'.
September 24, 201410 yr Yes, I saw this when there were 20 live auctions running and used the basic 'Report item' option to flag a couple of them I don't know if it has any effect but I felt better for trying! It does seem to be a very odd strategy for a scammer... at least it wasn't dodgy UCS Falcons!
September 24, 201410 yr Really? Please explain. I think it's more a case of not bidding on large expensive sets that seem to be listed in multiples for low prices. We all like the idea of getting a good deal but nobody is going to sell sets like this and this cheap and be legit.

I was just wondering why Frankjaeger says never to bid on a UCS set. I did a quick search and found quite a few that are obviously legitimate.

Those are premium sets, and at least to me, saving a few bucks is not worth the risk of missing an important piece of the set. Also many time the seller has proxy accounts to bid if the price is too low. I think its better to wait for a sale or save a little bit more for the ucs. Just my two cents

People selling stuff like this are either not going to send an item in the first place and will just take your payment... Then Paypal need to pay you back while the seller disappears with the funds happy to do it again in the future... Or possibly worse, they send the items but they're purchased through stolen card details... So you get the item... But someone else pays for it first... It costs them £200 for the Ewok Village...
