Back from BrickCon!

15295616777_1cc42e1c91_o.jpg

I brought two models with me: the '68 Mustang and the model I've been posting teasers of -- a Jeep "Lower Forty" crawler. The Jeep won the Most Complicated Technic award, and there will be more pictures of it soon, as well as a video.

Overall, BrickCon was an awesome experience, although I was disappointed that the Mustang didn't win an award. Maybe next year ;)

Congrats on the award. How was the technic turnout at brickcon?

It was decently sized  Erik (Blakbird) brought 10 models, and Alex Holroydt (aeh5040) had a table of mechanical sculptures. There was also a rolling ball clock, a giant rotating tower, and a few other small models. Overall, not bad, but small compared to the other sections.

"Cause I'm a material girl in a material world" I wonder; are those awards more of the honor type or the prize type  ? Interesting, I started with a similar project with pendular chassis, only that it isn't balanced by gears, but by a linkage. I like your model a lot - why did you use two balancing axles - do you think one wouldn't be enough to balance the car? As I see it, and how my chassis works, there really isn't much strain on that balancing parts...the body swings gently as a breeze  .

And of course - congratulations!!!

Prizes are more honor-based, although occasionally there will be a LEGO set provided by a sponsor of the convention.

I used two balancing axles partially for symmetry, but also due to slack in the system. With just one axle, all of the rotational force would just twist the axle and not affect the suspension. This way, I have two axles, each pre-tensioned in opposite directions. Probably would be easier with linkages though

Congrats on your award. Is this your first BrickCon? Will there be teaser pictures of the award? :classic:

This is actually my fourth BrickCon  The award is just the engraved brick, which is mounted on the front of the truck in the picture above. (So no teaser pics this time  )

There must be pretty cool people that run the Brickcon show since they let you use those tires on your model to be displayed...

The last AFOL show that I did, I had someone giving me crap over the chrome wheels on my models not being Lego...

Thats ridiculous but there are even some people who don't even respect Technic in general :hmpf_bad:

Brickcon is really chill, there are non-Lego parts everywhere. Everything from Brickarms to custom lights to even a fully non-Lego R2-D2 chassis was there. Not to mention two Phantasm Twin Turbos with chromed wheels.

Went out for a video shoot yesterday, but the battery died after just a few minutes of filming. Coming back within a few days to get more footage, but here's what I got so far.
