What're "illegal techniques?"

Someone else might know better than I do how to explain this, but I believe it means attaching parts using connections that LEGO would not use in a set. This is especially true if it stresses pieces, such as wedging a plate on edge between the studs of another plate or clipping a plate into any type of clip.

For category A could I make an improved (new build, not MODed) version of a location that's already represented by a set?

Sure. LEGO has rehashed Star Wars many times.

What're "illegal techniques?"

Ways of connecting parts that are not used in official LEGO sets. Clipping tiles or plates into clips, cheese slope mosaics etc/

How do we actually proceed when a build is done?

Do we put a link here to a freshly started topic? Or do we post the whole build and any fluffy blah blah in one go here?

The Rules

- A link of your MEC entry needs to be posted in the Entry Thread: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=100813

-The entry post (first post in your entry topic) may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish.

This is not the entry thread. The link to the entry thread is in the above post though. Good luck.

I have another question about category C.

I know that Bilbo's book is "The Hobbit" and Frodo finishes it with "The Lord of the Rings", do we have the choice to build something from LotR too or can we only build scenes from the Hobbit?

Posted

It has to be a chapter from Bilbo's book, but as you can see, you can ADD one. So if you wanted Bilbos adventures post ring, then you are adding a chapter to his book and you are indeed within the rules.

Thanks, I`ve overread that entry piece link

Pity they don`t have an `old Bilbo` in their range, or I`d put the old geezer in a jacuzzi with some elven lasses. He needed something to be occupied with in Rivendell after all while that foolish nephew was out adventuring

I'm still working on getting stuff uploaded. I really want to get something in for this. Question: For category A does the set have to be for the hobbit or can it be for anything Middle Earth?

I spent hours & hours working on something only to come to the conclusion that it was waaay too big & complex to be a set...* man this is hard, trying to come up with something that's recognisable, reasonably accurate but still appropriate for the constraints!

* I will just have to post it as a moc and submit the lesser version for the contest!

Just finished my Cat C entry! I'll be posting pictures tomorrow.

I'm a little intimidated by so many people entering Category C, the only one I felt able to enter at the moment, and more intimidated that you're entering as well! I look forward to seeing it. I'm really hoping the new Hobbit sets show up in my local store so I can switch out some place holders in my Cat. C entry before the deadline is up!

I have to switch my Cat C entry to a Cat B entry after I take new photos. Do I just delete the link to my entry in the other thread or do I have to change the title of my existing thread?

I had built the barrow before the contest and just realized that I am two studs over the limit for the Hobbit category.

Just make an old version yourself!

I hate to be rude but some of the elves stayed in middle earth

Both is ok! And the majority of the elves left...

Complex is not problem, some sets are complex as well.

Well it's the perfect category for everyone with a limited collection. But I admit, I was expecting to see some more entries. Especially for category A. Lots of members here with lotr and hobbit set wishes...

If you finished the topics, just send a pm and let me know what title you like to change!

I'm really sorry to be bothering you again, but one quick question: one of my entries for category C has a few small bits sticking out of the 16x16, is that okay?

There's a hieght limit?

Well, complex in a bad way. I've now made a smaller version that is more likely to be in a non-UCS set.

Don't fret. Usually there are more entries in the last few days than the rest of the time. There's still more than a week to go. I only hope I'm not the 5th guy with the same entry!

For C does it have to be 16x16 including border or I can add a border as long as the build is limited to 16x16?

We're pro border here. 16 x 16 NOT including the border.

Reasonable, limited overhang is okay.

None.

BTW- "America" is not a country. Just sayin'.
