Posted October 3, 201410 yr I've been curious about this for a while now, because the two seem like complementary sets. In The Fellowship of The Rings, the forge is in a cavernous setting adjacent to the tower. This scene suggests that the caverns are not quite directly underneath Orthanc, but beside it: I have an unopened 9476, but have yet to get my hands on 10237. I've thought about combining them when I eventually get hold of the latter, but MOC'cing has never been my strongest suit and I've been searching for inspiration. I'm also not quite sure where the forge should be positioned in relation to the tower. Has anyone here done this, or seen examples of it elsewhere?
October 3, 201410 yr I considered combining them but ended putting orc forge underneath in the shelf. Plus i feel like the uruks are born deep undrground of orthanc. Edited October 3, 201410 yr by LegoThomas
October 3, 201410 yr I have 9476, but have yet to get my hands on Tower of Orthanc. If it's possible without tipping the centre of gravity you could try to build a sort of cave underneath it.
October 3, 201410 yr I have both but haven't tried to combine them. It would take a HUGE bulk of pieces to create this, but it seems fairly feasible. The Orc Forge is all stand-alone with no cave walls or anything, and it's just about the right size to fit comfortably beneath the base of the tower, so basically you'd want to get a huge mass of dark grey and dark tan structural elements and slopes, build an incredibly sturdy box, put the tower on top, and put the forge down below. It would be really tall, but if you built it right, fairly stable - the tower is quite bottom-heavy. Perhaps the structure of the Rancor Cave set would be a good place to start.
October 4, 201410 yr Flickr user Oliveseon has did a mega moc combining Orthanc and Orc forge plus a whole lot more: Here's a link: PS. Flickr seem to have fixed it so you can't embed someone elses pics anymore. Annoying.
